I totally agree! I’m especially sad because the director is amazing yet they chose to go with this 5 and below storyline…

This one reminds me a lot of "From Dusk Till Dawn" with the way it starts out as a crime/suspense film, then switches to supernatural horror.

As Nick Offerman said, its not a "gay love story", its just a love story, you a hole.

The biggest reason is because it was an opportunity to give someone/s in the world of TLOU a 'happy' ending. TLOU is full of so much pain and loss, but this episode was supposed to be hopeful and show that getting to love someone and be happy is worth living for, even in such a dark and hopeless world. It reminds the audience as well as Ellie and Joel that there are things worth fighting on for. Bill was such a distrustful, cynical and unhappy person before he met Frank and Frank would be dead if he hadn't met Bill. It was a beautiful change to the story and much better than what was in the game, imo. There's plenty of death without those two dying as well, whereas there really aren't many happy moments in TLOU. It was also likely changed in part because Bill and Frank's story plays into the "bury your gays" trope in the game. It's not the whole reason, but it's likely a little part of it. The trope is basically that gay characters are, whether they get with another gay character or not, are viewed as "expendable" and often killed off or given a very unhappy story just for drama. Gay characters are statistically disproportionately given these kinds of stories/ endings in media and it was extremely refreshing to see what little gay representation is in TLOU NOT end really miserably. Vague but major spoilers for the next game coming, but the next big gay couple in the second game ends poorly, so it's good not to have a 3 for 3 for unhappy gay character storylines.
