Lake District Wild Camp Part 1: Scafell Pike and beyond

This was filmed 10th September 2020. Sorry it has taken me a while to get around to editing/uploading it First time solo wild camping in the Lake District and as they say, Go Big or Go Home. So why not take on Englands tallest mountain and head further in... It took me almost 7 hours to drive from Somerset in the south west of England to the Lake District in the North West. By the time I arrive...
Dartmoor Wild Camp: Cox, Roos, White, Great Mis & Hucken Tors. Prep for something bigger!
Просмотров 6274 года назад
Prep for something bigger! Needing to get my practice walks in Si (Rhialobran) advised walking up the backend of Great Mis would be a good test. Then said we would get even more hills if we headed onto the Moor from Tavistock. Join by Elliot too (Dorset Piper), this indeed is what we did. All in it was a circular route covering 19 miles and many a hill. Took my mini set-up of Rab Bivi & Zpacks ...

Wild Camping is back on the menu and here is the full video 😁 This was needed and the wind definitely blew out the cobwebs. Joined by Si (Rhialobran) the follow day for a hike to Hucken Tor. Don’t worry about the Tor, it was all about the Heiden valley we find enroute. Please check out Si’s channel for his rendition of this outing. Dartmoor Wild Camp: Okehampton to the Warren Inn

Sorry about the lip sync, little I can do as it was fine in Quik 😕 Shortly before lock-down made me claustrophobic I headed out on the Moors for a wild camp. Invited by Jonny B and Wandering Jay. The route was planned from Okehampton to Ivybridge... unknowingly Jonny is 6 foot 12 inches and a fitness bunny who likes to run up hills. Jay is 6 foot 13 inches, he completed the TGO Last year (Scotl...

Dartmoor Wild Camp: Winter Search for Stone Circles via Fernworthy Forest
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.4 года назад
Si & I head out for the first decent winter camp of 2019. We meet up a stones throw from Warren House (highest pub in the south west) and head off in search of stone circles. The night brings in strong wind, rain and hail. The sort of weather you expect with ‘The Jinx’. Sorry to advise the bad weather is not caught on camera as I slept through the worst of it! Please check out Si’s channel for ...

Lightweight... Hilleberg Soulo... Okay, at 2.6kg I confess the Soulo is not lightweight but it does cover the winter eliminate with ease. It’s a bomber tent that I would pop this up in some extreme locations. Before winter is out I would love to camp on the top of Helvellyn. KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid. I live by this! Dartmoor Wild Camp: From Rain to Shine
Great work guys! Where exactly on the map was the derelict farmhouse? Cheers. Great video
Nice hike and video 👍
Its really wonderful nature you got there.Thank you.
This was a great video and I enjoyed it very much so thank you for sharing it with us.I hope to see lot more.
Hi Ant, can I get you to drop me an email? I see no way of contacting you via your channel. Thank you. ATB :-)
Happy to pop you a mail, let me have your e-mail address 👍🏻😉
Love your content. Keep uploading more videos & thanks for sharing 💕
Great two parter this was!
Found your channel just by looking through comments on other channels. Thought I'd take a look. Enjoyed this one. I've only ever been to the lake district once in my life and that was as a fantastic trip but didn't get to do any climbing. This place looks awesome. I'll take a look at part two after this. Really want to feature the Lake District on my channel, could it be the most beautiful place in the UK, it's definitely a contender! Just subbed to your channel.
overkill x 100
I love this area very much. I'll watch some of your vids as soon as possible. Great sharing. Have a nice time
Drop the Rab bivy for for a Borah or MLD bivy. Also don't see the point in going to a nice UL shelter and sleepig kit and then using such a bulky and heavy brew/cook system?
Hi Adam, why do you recommend Borah or MLD over Rab? As for the so called bulky brew/cook system I was in the garden… hadn’t walked more than 15 paces!
@@mountains_and_moors Because such a heavy, thick bivy isn't needed under a tarp. All you need is a lightweight bivy. to stop dampness/condensation etc touching bag. I only said what I said within context of a "minimalist" or "UL" setup as it's redundant getting UL tarps if you take unnecessary weight in other places. I have this same tarp myself (but with the storm doors). Excellent bit of kit.
@@Adam_Outdoors I see what your saying Adam. Please note the Bivi is only 440g. Only purchased the pocket tarp really if raining. Not a fan of being zipped into a Bivi, much rather keep my head out! I have recently sold both these items but do regret selling the pocket tarp. Cheer, Ant 👍🏻😉
@@mountains_and_moors I regretted selling mine which is wgyvi have another on the way. Yes the Rab is only 440g but that is quite a lot relative to this type of setup. The MLD and Borth are less than 200g. It's more as a water resistant liner and splash proof to protect bag than a full on bivy. You're not cocooned in them as a shelter.
@@Adam_Outdoors I love the ruff toughness of the Rab Bivi as I use it an both mountains and moors with a thermarest Uberlite mat (250g) and a Rab Mythic 200 sleeping bag (475g) during the summer. Checkout my 48 hour / 20 litre rucksack vid… on which I did take the same stove set-up 😳 It’s approx only 330g plus the fuel! Had a few comments as people seem to think the kettle is going to be half a kilo of steel, it’s only 220g!
Looked like a great camp and great weather loved the timelapse's. I've camped at Swell Tor quarry it's a great place that😁👍
love video
Another great video.. glad to see you back on.. I was getting bored with nothing to watch 😀
nice video!
Very nice view and good hiking. I have enjoyed everything. Thanks for sharing.new sub
Much appreciated. Tomorrow we can start to head back out in England and I already have plans for Friday 👍🏻😁
Nicely done that man! One of the best Ant...great editing too. Best to you from ‘Big fella’
I've enjoyed following these videos, Ant. Hoping to finally get up there myself this year... Hope you're doing alright and all the best.
Good video and channel. Really enjoyed watching. Subbed you. Thanks Steve.
That was a fair old trek. Those scree inclines look challenging.
Looking good dude, all in all a most enjoyable romp with Sandy! Ooh Err. You know in that landscape and clearly on a journey I can imagine Sandy as Galdalf and you as Bilbo. More please!
Definitely not touching his ring 🤣🤣🤣
@@mountains_and_moors genuine lol! 🤭
Thanks, Ant. I appreciate seeing these vids of places I'll probably never visit. I'm now afraid to ask what's in HP sauce. 🐎👍🙂😉
That was a good 'un Ant. How much we miss being able to get out. Noel
Shame about the lunch Ant but massively offset by the scenery. Looked a couple of strenuous hills to climb but worth the effort. Well done both of you. Regards Keith
Haahaaaa. All good memories to be repeated again hopefully this year. I am hoping to get some wild camping in soon and ofcourse a few motorcycle tour/ camps too
Disgusted of Dartmoor: You come down here looking like a Mango Munchkin hiking on the moor in your Hi-Viz, DayGlo Derek mountain gear, and then have the cheek to post a video IN THE MOUNTAINS looking like a Chinese copy of Ray Mears...Not sure I can allow Sandy on the moor with the ponies either...
LOL! I had to get my sun glasses out.. he did have a patch of orange at one point :-)
On a roll Ant two in a week , some stunning views from the summits following Sandys off road route lol
Does a part 1/part 2 count as two separate vids? Roll on April 12th 👍🏻😉
pickled onion pickled egg.. curb of wholemeal. the resulting hairs on your chest are useful wind insulation. glorious scenes & thank you for the upload
Part One done, now to put myself through part two, which I see is up...I'll wait 6 months like you made us wait... Just kidding...or am I?
Way to go 💪💯👍 it seemed a tough hike at times👊
Nice one Ant ..... gobble, gobble,.....or a Horse's pen!s lol
Gobble gobble:)
Beautiful views, nicely done!! 🙌👍
Hello Ant, fabulous and much needed video this, thank you. We are having some severe adventure withdrawal, this helped scratch an itch. Smashing stuff ❤👍 thanks for this, Ceri and Kat ☕❤
Nice Ant, I remember this trip from the Videos Sandy posted and from your WhatsApp messages/photos as you were going. Won`t be long til we get out again, however its likely to be bivvy weather when we do though so the Soulo will have to be mothballed! Cheers, and bring on part 2!
phwoooar.. gorgeousGorgeousGorgeous & the fella in the specs wasn't bad either. snazzy tarp setup with the tent.. look forward to p2
Glad you liked it and maybe me too, lol. ATB, Ant
Whoop whoop! Finally you've found the time to edit it. Looking forward to part 2. You looked so snug I In the tent with the rain hammering down.
Getting better at working with the weather rather than trying to fight it. I knew the rain was due so changed the plans to fit. Only just got the tent/tarp up before the heavens opened.
Very enjoyable video. Thank you.
Your most welcome John, now I need to edit/upload part 2 quicker than another 6 months 😁
Well done Ant, some tricky walking conditions but fantastic views. Regards Keith
Oh Keith, the big kid in me couldn’t stop smiling as I headed off Scafell Pike to the campsite tarn. Just me and stunning views (albeit a tad overcast and grey).
There I was enjoying the story - and it stopped. Then I looked at the title - Oh, so it was Part 1. Very good Ant. I'll look forward to Part 2. Noel
I’ll try and get part 2 out ASAP for you... You kinda know what happens having watched Sandy’s vid 👍🏻😉
How many will find they have agoraphobia when they are allowed out. It’s a big old world out there. Cheers
Honestly Steve, I can’t wait to get out 👍🏻😉
Really enjoyed that one. I liked the way you did all the editing. Only thing I didn't care for was the music, but music in videos seems to be more and more common now. The sounds of wind and rain are good though LOL.... Figured you would be in the Soulo for this. As to the tarp, that's something I have done in the past also. My other half went with me on the AT and she said the tarp over the opening was like having a "porch" over the doorway and liked it. ATB from New England :-) PS - no orange.. awesome.
Things have got to be looking better, not an orange item in site 😆🤣 Music is always personal and it was the best option from a limited choice in the app I was using. Tent and tarp is a winner. Done this a few times and always amazing in wet weather or as a sun shade.
@@mountains_and_moors hahahaha Si might even invite you down to play more often now :-)
Great stuff Ant , I did wonder what happened to this video as I remember you in the lakes last year . Hope part 2 will be quicker lol ...Typical lakes weather I see . Hope your well atb Dave and we should be out next month 😂
Can’t wait to get back out... better edit part 2 before I start something new 👍🏻😜
Nice video , ive done nevis , snowdonia and the one in the mournes , need scaffel for the collection before i get too old and unfit 😄
Plans to do Nevis this year via the CMD, can’t wait to be allowed out 👍🏻😉
@@mountains_and_moors 17 years ago i did it , wouldnt manage it now unless i got fitter , just about pushed out ben lomond 6 months ago 😄, but yeah cant wait to get out camping and exploring 👍
@@mountains_and_moors : First time I did CMD arête, the day was so hot and I was sweating so much that my glasses wouldn’t stay on, which was frustrating as a snow bunting was flitting from rock to rock ahead of me.
Is 10% chance of "the jinx' official jargon from the Met Office, now?😉🙂👍
Amazing weather website for the UK Mountains: www.mwis.org.uk/ Give it a look 👀 👍🏻
That was great Ant. Welldone on the solo part up in the fells. When I climbed Scafell pike I did the last bit from I think Mickledon to the summit on my own and in thick cloud. Great idea on the tarp over the tent, something I will do next time
Finally got of my arse to edit this. Felt like I had to complete this before moving forward with new stuff. The tent/tarp combo is a winner in rain or sun. Can’t wait to get out again. You up for doing Ben Nevis this year?
Nice scenery, good grub n coffee but, rough stove and even worse company! 🤣😂
That’s why I needed a night on my own first 😆🤣😆
nice hike. cant wait for our lockdown lift
Soooo bored 😐 🤞🏻 April 12th in England we should be able to return to camping ⛺️
@@mountains_and_moors : The day after I get my booster. A wild pitch would be the perfect celebration.
Awesome video, what’s the tarp called please?
Zpacks Pocket Tarp. Packs to less than the size of a coke can and a third of the weight. Pop back several vids to Early Covid Garden Camp for another look. Thanks for the Sub 👍🏻😉
@@mountains_and_moors awesome thank you
The music though! Give it a rest.
Music is a very personal thing. I liked it but many haven’t... It does tone down/become more suitable in the later vids 👍🏻😉
Soulo, the perfect tent for these conditions. I tried to get Hilleberg to make the poles the same colors as the tent, but they seemed to not want to hear it - extra 'work' I suppose to do that. Great video Ant, even if it's from a year ago and I needed sun glasses to watch some of it LOL ATB from New England.
