Was that improvement in idle mostly from the O Ring replacement or from the breather hose being tightened?
@@iRideuWatch mostly improved from breather, but all these little leak repairs have helped and my fuel trims have improved
@offroadrehab-yw3yp thx for the quick reply. What's the inner diameter of that oring for the oil filler?
@@iRideuWatch if i get chance i will remove plastic filler and measure buddy
Where did you get the bracket for the two trailer plugs?

put that OEM thermostat in the garbage and install the inline one. 180deg. your engine will thank you.
@@mackendw thats sounds interesting i need to research it thank you
@@offroadrehab-yw3yp from everything I've read on these engines, LR was forced to use the design of the cooling system to meet EPA guidelines for emissions by raising the operating temps to burn off the bad stuff in the exhaust. The biproduct of doing this was keeping the engines at a temp that causes the notorious head gasket failure and slipped liner issue. running the lower temp thermostat inline helps alleviate this.
@@mackendw good to know, it would make a good video, im just on with editing my next video, its about live data on all my sensors, iv got some new cats and wanted to make sure everything like fuel trims are good so the new cats last, i will give you the heads up, i found faults and will show the fixes thanks
@@offroadrehab-yw3yp funny, I just replaced my drivers side cat too.
Hi there, interesting video - did you ever do the part 2 showing the results ? My V8 has done 196k and I don’t have any history (aside from an oil and filter change when I got it last January and I’ve done 8k since that) and I’m keen to keep it running as nicely as possible.
@@Mrtallguy76 yeah i kept checking oil and i could see the oil was getting dirty quick, i serviced engine shortly after, i like this product
@ thanks for the swift reply. Looking to do another oil change so I’ll get some - do you think there’s any difference between the standard and high mileage versions ?
@@Mrtallguy76 i usually just use the VR1 ever time i service, i used the seafoam because my discovery was stood for a lot of years, im just on with some new content, im doing live data videos on sensors before i fit my new cats
Great video - I’ll be following it this weekend. I got my kit from Aforce-Auto on eBay who I think are probably a reincarnation of JF Customs. It looks a really nice kit so I’m hoping it will last well.
@@Mrtallguy76 yeah its not a bad job to do, makes it easy if you have a buddy doing gear stick inside whilst filling

In the end the wiring issue wasn’t an issue, just needed to replace all four sensors?
@@Rudigerbitte a broken wire and x4 new sensors, fastest way would be to just replace all sensors together thanks
Here’s the translation for your message: Hello, my friend. I have a Land Rover Discovery 2 in Thailand, and I recently noticed a warning light on the dashboard. I took the car to a repair shop, and they told me the ACE (Active Cornering Enhancement) system has an issue and needs to be replaced. Considering the age of the car, I think maintaining this system in the long run could be quite costly. I’m wondering if it’s possible to remove the ACE system and replace it with something else. If I remove the ACE, will there be any other impacts on the car? I saw your video and thought maybe I could replace it with a mechanical setup instead. I’m not sure if removing the ACE is a common approach. Do you recommend keeping the ACE system, or is it better to remove it? Thank you very much for your advice!
@@often_talkshow i recommend keeping ace system its very good, but you can remove ace easy, you just turn ace off on body control unit (bcu) with diagnostic tool, i use nanocom diagnostics, you will need to remove ace pump and you can get new belt to bypass the old ace pump pulley, then you can fit normal land rover roll bars
I found the grey plug no problem but because it is constrained by the loom length it will not pull up to an accessible height, not only that but the fitter managed to mount it upside down and the wiring won’t allow it to turn over without risk if breaking something. What I have spent hours on you tube trying to find out is what kind of release the grey clip has to pull it apart as the tag is underneath so I can see it feel if it is the press and pull type or lift with a screw driver and pull and as I can only get one hand in I have very limited room to pull it ABD squeeze or lift the release. At least if I could see what it looks like when apart I would know what I’m dealing with. So is it a press and pull or do you have to push a screw driver in between the body of the clip and the tang. WHY they couldn’t just give it another 6 inches of loom so it could be pulled up I don’t know. 😊
@@garviere yeah its fiddly . You push clip then pull apart, try looking on google images thats showing lots of genuine grey plug and sockets
A bit frustrating! You said something about a “jumper wire” but didn’t explain and you didn’t say where that grey connector plug is located to check for corrosion. Please explain. Thanks.
Hi, if you look on a wire diagram you will see jumper wire, id show you a diagram but i cant post a photo. The factory toe bar electric plug is located behind rear light, hope this helps
Interesting who knew the bulb had a green vinyl sleeve 🤔
I don't think I filled the oil filter up with oil at that angle end up with a mess

The D3 is a beast too, that silver one has 230k on it now and believe it or not it's been very reliable! Just done my Mk1 300tdi as I had to replace the oil cooler lines. You cant get the sump off without releasing the transfer case mount as it blocks on of the bolts. The dipstick that you all want is bolted to the bell housing but you can't get to the bolt (hello angle grinder!) The filter is held in with Torx 27 (not 25 or 30). I wish it was as easy as this video..... Thank you Land Rover for helping me teach the neighbourhood children more swear words

What sealants did you use?
@@-1-2-1- i used regular black rtv sealant,
To prevent dry starts when changing oil on the Land Rover it is important to.step 1 drain the oil from crank case.step 2 fill the crank case with new oil. Step 3 remove old oil filter. step 4 replace with new prefilled oil filter. The Land Rover shop manual states not to remove the oil from the crank case and the oil filter at the same time, because when the motor starts, there will be no oil in the pick up tube and when you start the motor the oil pump will pump air instead of oil for the first few seconds.
Even in the video it took several seconds for the oil light to go out when you first started it. that’s because there was no oil in the pick up tube or the oil pump. because it all drained out the oil filter when you removed it.
Thanks for the good video mate! Do u remember how much oil you drained from the sump?
@@danieltorres2196 if i do a service i use 10ltr and keep pumping for a while to get dirty oil from torque converter, most service kits come with 10ltrs

That's an excellent job. What did you use in the restoration of the Exhaust manifolds, upper intake and valve covers? Looks brand new.
Exhaust, upper intake was soda blasted, then exhaust was cerakote, valve covers were powder coated, was a nice little project, did it for a friend, its a manual too, hes currently got it up for sale, thanks for watching video
The other thing you can do is when it continuously beeps like that, get out and put your ear to the sensors, the ones that are working will make a ticking/clicking sound, the faulty one won't be making any noise.
Hi - my dash just went black on my 1999 - do all three bulbs just got out at the sam time?
Have you tried lightly tapping clocks? I could get one of my bulbs on that way, its worth checking your fuses,
Thanks for the video. I changed my Thor’s oil last week but added a longer Wix oil filter (5151XP?) and a 14mm magnetic oil sump plug bolt.

Hi great video when i had my disco this 10 min job became 30 min's 🤣 due to front light guard's, 2 x spot light's then the soft bull bar 🤣
Yeah never quick jobs on a land rover ha, iv a massive list of jobs to get through, they keep us entertained
If I remember correctly when I worked at main dealers 20 years ago it was 0.2 hours (12mins) labour for a straight headlight bulb change but about 1.5 hours (90 mins) if bull bar and spots fitted. Back then over £100 just for a bulb change. It was never a problem on the early disco 2 headlights.
@@woodcote90 mine was the face lift version
Yeah i couldnt work in a dealer i take far too long messing about and cleaning things, must of been fun working on older discovery’s back in day, do you still have anything to do with LR or own one cheers
@@offroadrehab-yw3yp I don't really do much with motor trade these days but I own one of the last 300tdi defenders that I'm going to put a new chassis on in the summer.
Thanks for showing how to do it. What scanner are you using?
Hi i use nanocom
Great tutorial thanks 👍
Mine has the same ticking issue, discovery VR2 1999, thought it was the exhaust manifold but I can see that airs coming from where the block meets the rocker arms and stuff :( no leaks of any kind, just sounds of pure air puffing out the side :(
Also, not a ticking noise, it’s air escaping just coming from the side :(
Yeah id say your head gaskets gone buddy

This is great man, i will use this video to squeeze as much life out of whatever rotting disco 2 i can get my hands on.
Ha ha, look out for a good disco you will find one, maby i can do a video on places to check for rust
Whats up with all that creaking and groaning.....
Thats me ha, the videos done do land rovers justice the terrain was great and the range rover coped very well, the brakes usually make creaking noises
Ok. I’m already terrified as it is hearing about the issue so that’s good to know.
No need to worry there very well built, best 4x4 by far
Great job!! You got the heads machined, but how come you didn’t deck the block?
Deck was checked with straight edge and feeler gauge, i also check deck at night with straight edge and torch, engine looked in great shape, i soaked piston rings too and cleaned top of liners, very little wear on liners, engine covered over 100k , thanks for comment, do you own a Rv8
I tried to bleed my ACE today and didn't see the rams moving at all. It is all set to on with nanocom so I'm not sure what that's all about. Any idea what the 3 different options for bleeding are?
Hi they dont move much to be honest, when i bled my ace i could only just feel the body move , some people say put into low ratio and get axles articulating, from the reservoir to valve block bleeds on its own,
Those wipers would bug me !
I'm going to be doing this soon. Could I ask why you didn't do the oil pump and chain? Do you recommend it?
The engine made good oil pressure, if i was doing a full rebuild then yes i would change as much as possible, suppose it comes down to cost and time, have you checked your pressure? Thanks
As bad of a reputation these engines got you are now good for another 100,000 miles.

Excellent troubleshooting mate! 👍🏽 On my NAS ‘01 D2 V8 I obviously do not have the parking sensors but I do have that ever shite aux light relay box @3:52. It’s best to remove it and add a weather proof relay(s). It’s so simple to complete.
