Добавлен 1 ноя 2006
My name is Frank Ryan Jr and I'm an amateur astronomer and astrophotographer. I've been stargazing helping people get into the hobby for over 40 years. I took my first astrophotos 30 years ago in the film days and when Photoshop was a place you went to buy cameras! This channel is for anyone interested in taking photos of the nights sky, telescopes, gear reviews, astronomical events from the beginner to advanced.
A Week Under the Milky Way: Tenerife with the Move Shoot Move 'Nomad' Star Tracker
I spent a week exploring the stunning skies and landscapes of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands, with members of my astronomy club. In this astro vlog, I take you through my adventure of astrophotography using the Move Shoot Move star tracker with a second hand Canon 6D and stargazing on Mount Teide at 2,200 meters above sea level. With our club 15'' Dobsonian telescope under some of the darkest, clearest skies in Europe it was an amazing experience. Join me as I attempt my first proper milky way panorama and try out some new lenses. Oh and we hike to the top also!

Thanks so much for the video. I have the Dwarf 3 ordered. Hope it gets here before the Dwarf 4 comes out. 🙂
Sweet. Mine is on the way apparently! I'm curious if you used one of my referral links? I'm new to all this 'affiliate' lark and just wondering if it works! Lol.
@StargazerMan I did not know u had a referral link.. I ordered mine 3 or 4 weeks ago from a radio place in Huntsville AL. Gi gi parts I believe. I have ordered from them before.
Good video mate! Me and my mate went on an Astro Trip to Mount Teide back in March for some Milky Way shots, it's an incredible sky there isn't it and the views and landscape are insane! Nice to hear the shout out to Alyn Wallace too in your vlog mate, Alyn was the king of landscape Milky Way astro wasn't he. I'll subscribe to your channel bud and keep an eye out for more of your videos 👍🏼
Thanks for the nice words. Yes Tenerife is my new 2nd home 😄 I wish I had a chance to meet Alyn, he seemd like a genuinely nice guy and passionate about sharing his love for imaging the night sky.
@StargazerMan we're hoping to head back there or either La Palma next year again. If you get a chance, you'll have to check out the tenerife vlog I did mate on my channel. Yeah was such a shame about Alyn mate, it's watching his videos that's inspired me to chase the Milky Way myself.
Just watched you video and subbed! Class stuff
@@StargazerMan thanks mate 😀
Looks like you had quite a great trip :D. I kinda expected this place can be quite busy but there were times when it was quite packed... but I understand why, buecause the landscape is just stunning.
Nice trip. A tip: if you are using a laser for PA, you dont have to level the tripod or base. Leveled tripod is required when using a goto mount or polar scope for PA, because that directly affects the orientation of polar scope. But with laser you end up in the same spot no matter how you place your tripod.
Really nice that you got to film your astro adventure to the island! You also gave a good idea of the possible challenges there like calima, lots of cars and hikes that seemed 40 minutes but turn out to be 3 hours 😅. Glad you got some nice results despite of that! Wished you could have filmed more night footage!
Thanks! 100%. Night footage is my next improvement. I'm looking at the Sony A range of cameras to shoot low light. Plus they make awesome astro cameras!
@StargazerMan I see! I am a happy ZVE1 and A7-S series user for night video! How would you say the night hiking is around Roque Garcia? Thinking of going there next year but I might have to make some compromises there, depending on how far my broken leg has healed which I managed to do in La Palma last year 😅. Composition wise Tenerife looks fabulous!
OMG! I only just watched that video. I didn't know this was you commenting. It's sooo easy to get hurt in that terrain. I hope your leg has healed up. Love the work you do!
@@StargazerMan haha, thanks for asking! I still have a way to go but can now do the regular day to day stuff without too much trouble, also some small hikes again 👌. That's why I was wondering how the paths around especially Roque Garcia were to evaluate the options 😃
Hi What’s the difference between the star spiker “cross-hair “ mask and the Bahtinov mask? Thankyou
The star spikers add spikes to the bright stars. The Bahtinov mask is for achieving perfect focus.
@@StargazerManok thankyou. Re the Bahtinov mask, do you just pop it on and away you go or do you need to do something on the S50 app first? TIA 👍🏼
@gilessmithson6057 sure! So you point your Seestar at a bright star. Do an automatic focus. Then pop on the mask. If the defraction pattern forms a perfect intersection it's in perfect focus. If they are out then you can switch to manual focusing on the Seestar and move in and out until the lines intersect perfectly.
@@StargazerManThankyou. Looks like my S50 is in perfect focus without any adjustment. Is there any way I can show you a snapshot photo please?
Sure. You can send it to frankryanjr@gmail.com
❤
Brilliant video once again.
Glad you enjoyed it

@@Vic-pz5oh It was like a military operation and took all hands to make it work!
@@StargazerMan it's good to see some good videos from limerick on this. If you get to go to La Palma are you going to be bringing the seestars with you. It would be cool to see how they do down there.
I love my Dwarf 2. I find that compared to its competition it's the least 'dumbed down'. I purchased the deluxe version and really enjoy using different filters. Also great to be using it in EQ mode (using the latest software update) to get really long exposure without those stacking artifacts.
It's really great that the D2 benefits from the updated app features that come along with the D3.
May i ask where you stayed in Tromso ?
Sure! It was this house and was an Air b&b maps.app.goo.gl/fz178t7Emm2X32Fw5
Just ordered an Seestar S 50 from ZWO. Paid on Credit card but then rang up wanting another £106 for customs. I live in UK is this normal or is it a scam ?
Yeah if you order direct from them and your in the UK then there is a customs charge. If you order through a UK retailer then the charges are included. Curious they they called you, I've not heard of that before. Did you order using one of the affiliate links I have in the description or somewhere else?
Just stumbled onto your feed after purchasing my seestar online today. But just came to say that I have the same NOFX shirt! Haha! Just saw their last 3 shows in Cali. 🤟🏼
I saw them in Chicago the week before! Astro punkers unite!
@ awesome I saw them in Brooklyn first and those shows were so good we flew out to Cali for the last three shows. Was amazing! Punk is not dead! 💀
I have firmware version 3.31, but as of 11 November I get no software update on the Android Play Store, and no Mosaic Mode. Any idea why not?
Have you updated the App? Mine says V2.1.0
@@StargazerMan I got a reply from ZWO tech support: "look under sky atlas for framing. its not called mosaic although everyone refers to it by that!" It's everyone continuing to call it Mosaic Mode that causes all the confusion, and now it's working for me and a nearby friend who had the same problem. SKY ATLAS - FRAMING !!! Not Mosaic Mode.
Looking to something like this with a 12” skywatcher dobsonian that uses the spring tension system, which is incompatible, are there any options I could use?
Still has no idea what it is exactly and where it stands in the rest of the astronomical photography offer
Hey! If you want to see what it can do I've this full review video of the S50 (which is basically the bigger version) ruclips.net/video/XkVmpWYPRZY/видео.htmlsi=xaL-kIQQR09xlU6o Also this one where I compare the results from the scope with the Dwarf2 ruclips.net/video/XqLZyDoiJF8/видео.html
I ended up cancelling my order for the Dwarf3. they keep putting the delivery date back. latest is Dec 6 to shops. but an email from Dwarlabs is now saying jan 2025
I originally ordered Dwarf 3 but cancelled it on the S30 announcement so looking forward to using it alongside my Vespera II.
Vespera 2 is a tier 1 machine, looks great too !
The V2 looks like a great scope but I wonder why it's so much more expensive than other smart scope with similar aperture. I'm presuming the 585 sensor giving higher resolution is a factor. Though the S30 662 has lower resolution it'll have better sensitivity and read noise. It'll be very interesting to see how they compare side by side! I also just saw that it's waterproof! I think I need one for rainy Ireland 😂
@StargazerMan Hey, I'm in Ireland too, so I feel your pain when it comes to rain and cloud. What part of Ireland are you in , I'm in the not so sunny southeast in Waterford. I bought a Vespera 2 a few weeks ago and between work and weather I've only managed to get a small few images. I recently started trying hyperlapse video and also tried a 30 second image of the Milkyway over Dungarvan and actually managed to capture the C23 comet too in that photo...non intentionally. I don't have a laptop with enough RAM to do proper post processing so just use Lightroom mobile which isn't so bad !
I wiil buy s30 but now i am changing to dwarf 3 ;)
I will definitely be getting this hopefully in the new year. I saw a video of someone holding this the ither day and i was absolutely shocked at how small it is. I wasn't expecting that. Im looking forward to seeing your full video on the scope when you get it. Not jealous at all 😂
Hey man love the videos. I was wondering when you got your seestar s50 scope did you have any issues with customs when it arrived in Ireland.
Hey. Thanks! ZWO sent it to me for review so they paid it. I had a look to see what it might cost. (I literally asked chat GPT - I'm not sure if it's correct but I guess it's a start. Buying a $499 telescope from China to Ireland incurs additional costs: Customs Duty (4.2%): €18.86 VAT (23%): €107.63 Handling Fee: €10.00 Total Import Charges: €136.49 Total Cost: €585.59
I'm in northern Ireland and bought of flo.bought my D2 direct from drarflab.no issues with customs in either case
I was wanted this as my first one but I want to view through an eyepiece too and take photos. I want planets and deep space objects. I hope you can point me in the right direction that doesn't break the bank.
You might like to add download the control App to phone or tablet before firing up the unit, as this is a ‘how to’ for novice first time user.😊
Good point!

How long did you keep it running for I did one hour
I ran it for around 2 hours. There was intermittent cloud so a lot of failed to stack.
I saw it last night (10/26/24) for the 2nd time
Well done! Has it dimmed much?
Works very well so far. I've downloaded it now on Android and all is good. Going to be using this a lot I suspect 😊
Now available for Android
Literally 10 minutes after I posted 😄 I've checked it out on both and it works great.
Also on Android, limited to 2x on Mosaic vs Beta was bigger but never finished
Interesting! I didn't Beta this one so I'm curious what size it went to. Probably would have taken too long?

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback. Make sure you use my affiliate link 😎. There's no cost to you and it really helps the channel grow.
You didn't say how much time was spent on each target.
True! I'll add the time and details about each shot in the description
@@StargazerMan Cool... I'm interested in your integration times. Do you have setups that are not robotic scopes?
Yup. I'll add those details in the description. I don't currently have what I'd consider a good enough OTA for 'regular' Astrophotography any longer (separate Camera, Scope, Mount, etc) I have done in the past but sold the gear to get into visual observing. I have a 16" Dobsonoan that I have motorised, an ETX125 OTA I use for moon and planets. The other main love of mine is landsape milky way photography. I've a few cameras and lenses and trackers etc.
Amazing it even says when to look for it, but yet you only brought up one date
Hey! So yeah, I could have made that clearer in the video. I start on one date, then each time I click, it's a day later, and it shows where the comet has (or had) moved to. :-)
Nice video fella. I've booked a trip to Tenerife next June around new moon to escape the accursed perpetual twilight that we get at 55° north. I had been considering taking my S50 with me but now its a definite, i may have to get my hands on one of those dew shields as well.
Don't forget the accursed perpetual clouds! 😄 - Clear skies for June!
Its called Teide ;-)
Hey! Thanks. I *think* your commenting on the pronunciation? If so, the local Canarian people of Tenerife pronounce "Mount Teide" as "TAY-deh". The "ei" in Teide is pronounced similarly to a long "a" sound (as in "say"), and the final "e" is pronounced softly, like the "e" in "bed."
@@StargazerMan No, I meant the name of the POI „Tiede“ ;-) @0:08
Every single time I see images of these nebulas and clusters I feel pure awe at what I am looking at. There is just so much out there waiting to be discovered, too.
In 2020, Neowise, although less bright, was far more visible. From northern France anyway.
Agreed! I had to really struggle to see this one. Neowise was much more obvious
I am hoping one day in the not so distant future to getting my hands on the seestar s50 if nothing breaks down on me like it has before. I would love to take one to the dark sky reserve in Kerry where I've been twice now and absolutely love the place.
The Reserve is a super place for dark skies! I've been there a few times with my 12" DOB for visual observing and it's definitely world class. Good thing about the smart scopes is that you still get very good results from urban areas.
There doesn’t appear to be any of the 3D Printed Seestar S50 Accessories available? Can you say when they will be back in stock?
