Novice v Intermediate Glider Comparison
Nice
How much does your son weigh?
I just seen the dolphin as I am landing. keep an eye out for it as the glider is hooking around onto the beach at the end.
You need to get that Searay built and take the boss joyriding🤣🤣
You think Aash would want to come 🤣🤣, I know what you meant, she is looking forward to it.
Nice buddy, looks like fun. It’s a big job filling your shoes on this side 🤷♂️
Hi Gazza, I'm sure your doing just fine. Thanks for leaving a comment.
Sweet!
Nice work! I am back at Rex WANGETTI for winter as well flying to 4mile beach few times so far ruclips.net/video/pfB6UWAMQ88/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Niceee, let me know when you come over mission beach again for a jump from that wing 🪂🤘🏼
I loved my sting, flew it at Fairhaven quite a bit..thanks for the memories
Bravo
Where about are you flying?
We are flying at my fathers house. Near Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, Australia
Nice👌
so the main mistake that the F2 flyer is making is he is 'Pulling Away' on the control bars? I thought the difference in the make of the glider too makes the difference in performance as well. Thx. for the video though.
The difference here is mostly from the glider, the sting has better glide and is faster.
Amazing vid. I was scrolling trough looking for vids on Tuross & found it.
Watch out for the logs that move.
Yer the ones that bite.
Nice👍
Sweet👌👌🇦🇺🍻
Hey there Brendan I am actually in Wangetti flying Rex lookout most days if you are still in Port Douglas we should meet cheers
Hi Mick I am here 3 more days and am looking to fly Rex so I will contact you.
Nice. I own that old falcon three now, got it off peter aitken for 500 bucks to teach me how to dune goon👌
Really? Nice! Never flown one but heard there great.
@@hgpilott yeah she’s a bit thin in places only for the dunes now , it’s been in RUclips clips for the last 10 years from Victoria to rainbow beach and everywhere in between . Must have at least 1000;hours easy, and flys really nice ,no nose drop good for learning the dunes
Looks like 2 good years👌👌
very well!
Now there's a nice Upgrade! 5 star Arm chair flying now for you ..Cheers thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this video. Takes me me back. I flew for 10 years.
Sir where i cna buy the mosquito, where i can buy, hangglider with this mechanism? 🙁 Please
Hi, you may have seen my reply to your question on another video. But in case you haven't, I suggest getting training and then buying the equipment from you're instructor.
@@hgpilott where are you from sir? Are you instructor?
@@hgpilott what is the minimal price of this all?
@@marinbros2882 I am from Australia. No I am not an instructor. The equipment in this video brand new is about $5000 AUD for the glider and about $7000 AUD for the harness.
Sir when i can buy same mechanism?
Well, if you are in a country like Australia, you first need to get a licence. Then once your are licenced you can buy equipment on places like eBay or Facebook but I would suggest getting you're first gear from the instructor who taught you.
@@hgpilott thans a lot sir, okay
That is not a good comparison at all. Your son is flying a much better line. I can demonstrate the exact same thing on a single glider. Flying below the cliff having to do very little crabbing, while having to point into the wind a lot more and making a lot less progress above it.
Exactly, the F2 (single surface) is forced to point into the wind and crab more than the dual surface. If it was blowing 25 knots, the F2 would be just pointing into the wind and going no where. The Sting (dual surface) would be able to crab along at 25 knots no problem.
@@hgpilott I think you missed my point. Your son, the higher performance glider, is flying a better line, below the cliff top. If the "beginner" glider was flying lower it would not have to crab so much and instead make better progress along the cliff. Instead it is stuck right in the venturi with the fastest wind. If you want a performance comparison then both gliders should fly the same line.
@@sergeig685 I think you may have not watched the whole video. It was actually me flying the Sting (I am the son) and I only flew low at one point to overtake. I then climbed higher than the single surface, was about a kilometre further down the ridge, and was moving much faster. The clip shown of me flying the Sting over the cliff was about 30 seconds before the clip of the F2 and I was at least as high. It may look lower because of the POV.
You have to go and check out "The Granites". It's just up the road 15k or so towards Adelaide. Also, another 10 or so k's further up there looks like some amazing 300-400ft tall sand dunes too. Once i get my powered hg up and going in the next month I plan on checking it out. As a more experienced pilot, I'd love your thoughts on the area before i venture out! Cheers, Will (Mt Gambier)
Hi Wi Lliam yes the Granites are awesome and some big dunes there as well, I have powered down further than the granites and back to Kingston, It is an awesome part of the world. This video is of me flying I post it on my sons youtube channel he is also a powered endorsed pilot. I will be in the Kingston area a lot during the summer so might see you out there. About my thoughts on the area , It is awesome, plenty of beach for landing all the way down and super smooth, just check the weather conditions on BOM to make sure you don't get caught in any convergence, it happened to me a couple of years back, not nice. so if wind is light (less than 13knts) and constant (from SW to NW) and not changing direction it will be perfect. Hope to see you out there.
Fantastic footage Brenden ! Thanks for sharing nice to meet you guys Cheers
Mate you made life easy for me Thankyou.
PM me if your ever flying down here again and I'll come join you. Will : )
No worries, Dad is down somewhere arround Kingston with his gear at the moment. I am down in Port Mac late Jan.
@@hgpilott Great! I've been away from flying for about 10 yrs, but will get endorsed again in the next month or so with Rob Van Der Klooster (I believe he knows both yourself and your dad). The powered harness that I've acquired needs a little bit of work which might take a couple of months to get serviced and airworthy again. But by all means let me know when you're down here a well catch up for a froffie, and hopefully, a fly! Feel free to call me on 0409670908 once you've got your travel dates fixed. Cheers, Will.
Thanks for sharing
Hi, does 168 has a detachable rear keel too?
Hi, Yes it does come with detachable keel. sorry about the late reply
Why don't you do up your harness and get those silly legs tucked in? Must be uncomfortable flying like that 🤔❓
We had trouble with the old harness clipping the legs up. We untied the legs from the zip so we could still zip up, but the legs stay down. With the new harness, we clip the legs up.
That looks like fun. When you flew over the water, did you keep your glide angle back to the beach in mind? Or is the mosquito completely trustable?
Yes we always keep glide to safe landing area in mind when flying a mosquito. Are they completely trustable? No there not. Mostly trustworthy, not completely. Had many engine outs in the past.
nice edit! Whats the type of motor-electric or some sort of combustion? For how long it can last?
Thanks! It's is a 2 stoke 120cc engine. Lasts about 4 hours
thanks for sharing appreciate your videos cheers
how *long* did it take you to fly 75km? whats the furthest you have traveled with one tank of gas?
It took me just over an hour. Started with a tail wind and ended with a head wind. Havnt really calculated how far we have travelled because we normally return to launch. But We burn about 2 litres an hour and (depending on glider and head/tail wind) move at about 60 km/h ground speed. This tank on this harness holds 7 litres so in theory we can go about 420 KM on a tank. My harness has external tanks which hold 10 litres and so we could go a very long way.
Thanks for sharing cheers!
Thanks for sharing cheers!
That would make a great screensaver :-)
Just beautiful i never get tired of watching cheers.
Very nice thanks for sharing!
Another beautiful flight i enjoyed every minute and im so glad you nailed that landing.
Thanks!
Nice thanks again for sharing.. just been signed on again after 30 plus years love this stuff but leaning more to a airborne nano trike due to my age (59) cheers
Thanks Mick! Great to hear you have got back into it again!. Trike would be good. Dad is 52 and still flies the powered harness no problem (he is the one in this video). Having said that he is making a Trike!. Thanks for watching!
thanks for sharing cheers from Sydney Australia
Thanks Mick!
If you have a topless glider then every now and then you'll wish you had a floater. And vice versa.
Yes true. I have a litespeed that I have only flown once but I can tell it has a lot of potential. I normally fly the sting so I have the best of both worlds(or the worst depending on how you look at it I guess).
I flew a fun down at Flaxman, the wind was up around 25knots i struggled just to stay in front of the ridge while all the guys flying stings where out over the water just cruising.
Yeah 25knts is pushing it in a fun. We have flown the F2 at 13th beach when it got to 30knts. Its not so "fun" then haha.
It was all going so well until the last few feet.
Stunning video! Great! Subbed, Thumb up, and bell clicked.
Great! Thankyou!
That's my kind of gliding. Not too high. Just gliding along the beach.
Great vid. Looks like the bar position needs some adjustment and looks like it is crying out for a king post hang point. I modified my Fun with a KP hang point and it made so much difference. If you watch this with focus on the hang point movement, bar pressures are made similar to a high performance glider. ruclips.net/video/25DpPlRz5BY/видео.html
Hi, That looked great, how did you mount your hang point to your king post, is it a kit or something you came up with ?
I have been designing hang gliders on and off since the 70s so it was a DIY job. The Fun already has a long inner sleeve on the keel so it was a simple matter of drilling a hole, and cutting the sail for a new KP position. There were various other things I did with the Fun which involved raking the cross tubes forward, decreasing the dihedral significantly and it has made it a real delight to fly. I always found the stock ones were boring spongy things which is what makes them ideal as a first time buyers choice.
billpain thanks. I'll look into that a bit further . Cheers
