One of the reasons I am/was hesitant to go Anglican was precisely this issue. It is very clear that, particularly in the evidence that you cited, the institution of the episcopate is not ontologically necessary. Paul very clearly did not appoint bishops as we understand them; however, it is likely that other apostles (like John) did. This would explain, for example, Ignatius' strong and early testimony regarding the episcopate. Nevertheless, your nuanced approach is extremely helpful, and I don't see anything stated in this video to be objectionable.

I just watched your video today even thou its a couple of years old. It came as a suggestion after watching about the nature of the conflict between Israel and Hamas. I realize this comment is 2 years later :) I did not grow up in the church (non believer) but came to faith late into adult life. When I came to faith I had a such zeal to real the bible from Genesis through Revelation over and over and over. Sometimes I was able to read the OT/NT 4-5 times in a year. I am not saying this to qualify authority because I never attended seminary etc. I have much to learn. When I was reading my bible early in my faith I had no idea of different theological viewpoints - a true blank slate. Today I am much more aware of different theological positions in the body of Christ. Putting the rapture aside I read the bible as literal and of course use common sense when not to take the bible as literal but allegorical - ie I do not think Jesus is literally a door. This is the main difference between your viewpoint and dispensationist - "literal" vs "allegorical" . When I read the bible prophecies I see a literal fulfillment of Jesus first coming and this is why I take the 1000 year reign / 2nd coming in Revelation (and other unfulfilled prophecies) as literal. When I read Romans ch 9-11 I see Israel (remnant) separate than the church. I do not read Zechariah 12:1-12 as the church etc. So rapture aside which I understand why their are strong opinions on this matter and why I am not dogmatic in this subject even thou I have opinions on it. This is the true difference. I've talked to many reform / calvinist and it's both groups that each have hard stances to defend. You are mixed up about where a rebuilt templ and sacrifices during the millinium is from Ezekiel and Isaiah and other places. Its not part of dispinsationalism. The sacrifices are a rememberance pointing backward just like sacrifices were pointing to Jesus in the old testement. People who dont beleive in the rebuilt temple and sacrafices and keeping the feast days dont believe in old testament prophacy.

They were a constant visual, auditory, and even olfactory object lesson. They showed the severity of the cost of sin. And they pointed to the coming true sacrifice. That said, the Bible does speak of the sacrifices being restored in the Milennium. (Zechariah 14:8-21; Revelation 20:4-6) Why? The dispensationalists are right about the fact that they will be a constant reminder of what Jesus did for them. You say that that is false because there is already a memorial in the Lord's Supper. REALLY? How many reminders did God decree for the Jews? They had the Holy days. Every Sabbath was a reminder of creation. Every Passover was both a reminder and a foreshadow. The men were commanded to were garments that served to remind them of God's presence and works. They were required to place the words on every doorpost (the mezuzah) to remind them of the words of God. We do not get to decree how many reminders are "enough" for the KING of the Universe. He knows the minds and hearts of humanity. If HE says we need more than one reminder, I am not about to argue.

As an Orthodox i agree with some things especially nationalism. I hate this also.. Saints were never really nationialists. They of course loved their country but they didnt hate others. Also i say that Orthodoxy is true church but i dont agree with every priest. We people are sinful, we make mistakes. Please dont mix Orthodox people with Orthodoxy. Also we mostly have liturgy of st. John Chrystosom which is Eastern. The earliest liturgy was actually the Last Supper. Then its said to be st. Jacob Greek liturgy. I was RCC and i have to say that Orthodox Liturgy touched me far more deeply than RC.

Jonah, I really believe that you’re missing something very important here. It is the RC that contends that it is THE church and united under the pope. It is RC polemicists who chide Anglicans and other Protestants for their division and how they need to all come home to the true united church, Rome. So it is perfectly fair and honest for those outside of Rome to respond as they do the divisions that are in Rome.
