Hi Bill, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment - I appreciate what you're saying - and in fact the cable that is connected to the positive terminal runs through a fuse before the power goes anywhere else. I can't imagine how that fuse being connected directly to the battery or down cable a foot or so really changes anything in the protection. BUT - I'm a carpenter and just doing things the way that makes sense to me .......... if you can elaborate on the concept it would be appreciated. @@VanOfAction Murphy's law. Chaffing of insulation by something either metallic and eclectically active -- or allows it. Overheating due to something nearby or a chemical/age/drying deteriation or age. Also, people frequently don't account for voltage drop along the cable, which can cause some loads to draw excess current. Say if there is brownout (voltage drops way down) caused by drawing near max current that is sufficient to cause motor winding insulation to melt shorting out. The extra Current squared times resistance along the cable causes heating that melts the insulation off. Your fuse blows, protecting everything after it. But between the battery and the fuse the insulation may be melted off and 12 VDC. Besides, search for Joinfworld MRBF Terminal Fuse Block 100A 58V DC Battery Terminal Fuse Kit with 5/16" Stud Marine Battery Fuse and Waterproof Cap for Boat Truck RV Construction Vehicles on amazon and not really expensive. $15. Blown fuse. Just replace the fuse part. $10

Hi Sunseeker, thanks for watching and leaving such a detailed comment. While I accept that you're probably right about the power loss differences in the series vs parallel configuration it was really never a consideration for me. The point I was trying to drive home in the video was the way series or parallel create AMPS and VOLTAGES and how important it is the installer be sure the generated power is compatible with whatever MPPT controller they are matching it to. In my case, connecting in series would have cooked the controller in minutes (I've spoken with someone who did exactly that)......... I don't know, but I'm sure there are instances where a higher voltage preferred for the controller , in which case the power loss would simply be something you had to live with. I needed the combiner box because pulling the cables from the roof to the area where the MPPT controller was going to be was one of the first things I did. At that time I had no idea what any of the equipment was going to be, but I wanted the wire in ................... With just the cables pulled I had limited options out in the mountains .. also, this was COVID and I was trying to buy as much locally as I possibly could. I couldn't find any "airplane" type light with individual switches that I thought were priced well. The 2 I got were $ 90.00 from Amazon - which was way more than I wanted to spend. Hi Dan Thanks for your note and taking on the project. On my van the drill size was just under 1/4" You want it to be a close to the pin a possible to ensure the greatest purchase on the pin. Try making a sample out of a piece of wood or hard plastic. Hi @IVolutionI - thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Honestly that's exactly what I thought when I bought the van. Not that I had any choice at the time - this was the only van I could find available in Ontario Canada that week and we were moving to BC. Taking out the bench is not problem, and fooling the computer is easy too. The challenge is finding a single seat to put in. The Dodge corporation won't sell a new single seat for a van that has a bench because of the air bag computer. Finding a salvaged one with an intact airbag is almost impossible (totally impossible at the time). And one out of wreck that had it's airbag deployed and seat belt tensioner released was way too involved to try and make right. I have been keeping my eyes open ever since and if a single came available I'd be all over it !!!! Hope you'll join the community and stop back ............ Dave

@VanOfAction I also have a similar situation bought only van I could find which had a bench seat now trying to put more seat in and turn passenger seat into a single. I was under the understanding that I could either purchase a after market seat or find one. So I guess that where I'm confused, why wouldn't an after market seat work to hook up? Thanks!

@@IVolutionI I'm not sure where you are. But all seats have to be tested and approved by the governing bodies for each country they are being used in - or the insurance will not be valid. I'm in Canada and I cannot find an aftermarket seat that has a side air bag that has gone through the approval process. In the states there is a company in Arizona that manufactures seats that meet the US standards ... discountvantruck.com/product-category/promaster/promaster-captains-chairs/ ... we have been talking about going that route if no options come around.

Hi Zarguy .... I LOVE that !!! $3.00 !!!!! Man that makes me smile. I'm sorry about the drill size missing. Unfortunatey my van is 3400 miles away at the moment and my shop is all packed up for moving this weekend .... (video comes out tomorrow) .... What I did initially because it's impossible to measure was ..... I machined a piece of wood 3/4" x 1/8" x 3" - then using my chop saw I just cut a groove part way through at about the middle. I just kept increasing the groove until it fit as I wanted it to. Be sure sure to post some photos of how you're doing. These clips have been copied all over the world and one day I want to do a compilation video ..... be well ....... Dave

Second - it was recommended to me by someone who has had roof racks before that the rack should be at least an inch off the roof to prevent whistling as you go down the road. The Promaster roof isn't flat, there is a crown in the center and with 1.5" stock I think you would be getting pretty close to the metal. Now I don't know if it would whistle or not - but I know mine does not...... Hope you'll join the community .... and stop back .. Dave

Hi barbara... thanks for watching and taking the time to ask. With a lot of care and a little luck it may be possible to take the doors apart and reassemble them. I did that for the panel in front of the cooler because I wanted to change the height. But the reality is it would be a tremendous pain and probably not successful for every door.
