New Orleans, LA | Apr 2024
We drove from Austin to New Orleans, and it happened to be the weekend of the French Quarter Festival. That meant live music and great food on every street corner. And of course, we stopped to see some gators on the way home.

We had planned a 2-week trip to Ecuador, only to cancel it last-minute due to civil unrest. We pivoted to Belize, knowing little to nothing about the country, and we had a great trip! Half our time was spent in San Ignacio, the other half in San Pedro, and we even made our way up to Tulum, Mexico for a couple days!

Back to our college town. We only had 24 hours in Chico this time around, so we rented some bikes and managed to get most of our favorites in.

Our first time backpacking together. We did a 3-day loop on Big Creek Trail in the Smoky Mountains. It was restful and exhausting at the same time, and of course, beautiful!

An unforgettable trip to South Africa for a family wedding. We started in the bush (Mjejane Reserve), then headed to Johannesburg, Cape Town and Jeffreys Bay.

For our fourth wedding anniversary, we took a trip to Colorado. We stayed in Interlocken, but spent most of our time in Denver. And of course, we had to get some snowboarding in, so we spent a day at Copper Mountain.

We roadtripped from Austin, TX to Nashville, TN for a four day visit. We drove 13 hours through the night each way... worth it.

We spent 24 days in Southeast Asia adventuring through Thailand and Cambodia, visiting the southern islands (Krabi, Phi Phi, Phuket), Udon Thani, Chiang Mai, Siem Reap, and Bangkok. We fell in love with Thailand on this trip and would go back in a heartbeat.
HEADING WEST: Louisville, St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver, and Salt Lake City

Well, that’s a wrap. We made our way west back to California to return the van, and now we're heading back to Austin to reestablish our “normal” life. Drifted has come to an end for now. Until next time.
PHILADELPHIA: A Spider-infested Sunset, Amish Communities, and a Philly Cheesesteak

The turning point. This was where we made the decision to cut the trip short and start heading back toward California. The van breakdowns, summer heat, and COVID-19 shutdowns got the best of us. But Philly was cool (though not temperature-wise) while we were there.
PITTSBURGH: Incredible Skyline Views, the Steepest Street in the US, and the Duquesne Incline Car

Pittsburgh is a rad city. It doesn’t seem to get the credit it deserves. We were originally going to visit Columbus, OH, but we’re glad we did Pittsburgh instead.
GRAND RAPIDS & DETROIT: The Blue Bridge, Meeting New Friends, and Detroit-style Pizza

We visited Grand Rapids, MI. Everyone we met there told us to skip Detroit. We went anyway, and we loved it for the short while we were there. Maybe even a little more than Grand Rapids. You don’t know until you go - definitely something we’ve learned to be true in our travels this year.

It’s nice to take a rest day in the midst of our constantly-on-the-move lifestyle. A relaxing day at the beach on Lake Michigan in Indiana Dunes National Park was a exactly what we needed.

The way he ate a pie... i just cant. Do you use a knife n fork to eat a mars bar too
I must’ve missed the part where you reviewed it
You dont eat a pie with knives and forks, already wrong, grab it and bite it you !?#@÷
I moved to Santa Elena from the US. I was shocked how the locals can live on next to nothing. It's the way they have always lived. Every time I go the grocery there are armed guards out front. When I'm shopping I make sure that I get something for the guards to snack on, so they are on there game just in case. Who knows the last time they ate a good meal. It's a way of life here and it takes time to adjust to it. I LOVE THIS PLACE. But I don't have to work here. I'm retired. I am blessed to live amoung the real people of Belize.
This whole video shows you spending money. This is not something unusual in Belize. Easy to spend and impossible to make a $1.00 where the min wage is $12 to $24 USD a day for 8hours work.
It's $5 bz so that's $2.50 us An hour
No, no, Noooooooo!!! You are destroying it with the knife and fork! Ya gotta eat it with your hands!
Not much of a review. But having eaten at Fergburger I can add that it is most likely the best burger I've ever eaten and at almost 70 I've eaten a lot of burgers.
Soooooo fun!!!! ❤
Thank you, quite true. We didn’t fall for it but got really scared and ran away because we didn’t know how serious their plans were. Kava is a relaxant, it could’ve been anything, even human trafficking came to mind. They probably thought we were crazy Aussies but I feel so much better that we escaped, whatever we escaped. 😅
Great video! Looking at the Praxus/Proxy. Are you still happy with it? It has great reviews except that laptop area is in front so can throw off balance and dirty compartment is hard to get to since have to take everything out to get to it. Did you have any issues? How is the comfort after carrying it for awhile? Thanks and happy travels!
Awesome! I just picked up a Praxus 45 on sale - would you recommend it after your experience? It seems great so far in every way except I worry it might be an inch or two bigger than some carry on sizers on stickler airlines? Were you able to carry-on always and smoosh it down as needed?
Sorry for the delay getting back to you! We LOVED these bags though. We were able to bring the Praxus as a carry-on for all of our flights. We didn't even end up needing to smoosh it too much for it to fit. Hope you enjoy it!
@@therandlemans thanks much awesome
How are you gonna charge your laptop
We brought chargers for the laptops and a universal travel adapter. Here's the link to universal adapter we brought: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01FO4W5W2
no no no bro you pick it up and eat it with your hands
Yes, flakey, sometimes too flakey. Can't be good for you.
I suppose someone told you later the way to eat a pie is to eat it out of your hand ? 😁
These Yummy pies are also sold in Waimate (Rainbow Dairy)
Which fish and chips place were you at?
It was a place called the Burger Stop in Sumner, NZ. Delicious!
@@therandlemans Nice. I know Sumner well. Went to primary school there and worked part time at the cinema for years as well.
Slap chips en vis.
Gotta get a watties t sauce bro
Yeah, like you suggested in the description, there's nowhere that's 100% safe, but New Zealand is about the safest country you could hope to be in, alongside all the Scandi countries. In the last 50 years, only three men and five women have been killed hitchhicking in NZ; only three of them were tourists and all of them were travelling alone. So as a tourist you're not in any especial danger compared to the many kiwi hitchhikers, and it's even safer if you're with a friend.
Yeah, if you'd declared it on the customs form, they would have asked you what it was and just binned it if they decided that you couldn't keep it, but ticking the No box when you have something will win you a fat fine. New Zealand and Australia have _very_ strict biosecurity laws to protect our wildlife and agriculture industries from foreign diseases. If it's a first time innocent mistake, you might have a chance of getting the fine retracted in NZ, but they're less forgiving in AU.
Yeah, we really messed up by not declaring it on the customs form. Even though it was our first time / innocent mistake, we weren't able to get the fine waived... Lesson learned haha.
