Walking our sheep to a new lease block
Interesting to see how long it takes untill you have all the desired traits in your herd. Is it easy to find bulls that are not to closely related to each other or does that not matter to much at first?
Hey Jake, Loving your content! It's a pity that many can't see the bigger picture and are so stuck in their traditional ways. But, to quote Kit Pharo - it's good to be a herd quitter!
dont chip the dog rose plant mate,,,its very nutritious,,,if you had sheep they would be gone by now,,,, let them wind themselves up the gum trees.
the green patches from old manure is a great place to pour some worm juice to help the mineral cycle repair.
love the worm juice unit,,,,hope it goes well for a long time. I did this type of thing (vermiculture) in my 20's more than 30 years ago, before it was famous,,,,, I found it super beneficial to have a massive worm breeding system going on,, not just for worm juice, but for you to take a good hanful of worms out to the field and deposit them in the field after each cattle move. whereever your feeding hay is a good spot to start,,,and if your feeding hay in winter in the field,, it screaming out for a handful of worms to be chucked in with the hay residue. does wonders. if you decide to keyline plow, rent one beg borrow or ask! its worth 2 - 3 years of grazing rotation in one pass,,,and depositing worms under hay residue in the keyline plow lines works a treat. love watcjing the videos.
leave the dog rose mate,,,its a very nutritious plant,,,,if you had sheep you'd find the sheep walk straight to the dog rose.
Same with my sheep, Come Oooon to come too me and Hup, Up the yards for them to go away from me & usually up the lane to the yards. Mind you they most times know what I'm doing but occasionally are confused which is so funny as they look at me with a What the heck are we meant to do puzzled look. I'm also putting 'stuff' that decomposes in wombat holes. They've got a park next door they can live in, in peace.
😎👍
Imagine if you buried the totes somehow you could keep the temperature lower and stable for the worms. Are you looking into biodynamic practices with your Nguni leftover horns?
Unfortunately we can't get horns back from the abattoirs that do our slaughters from us!
Interesting blood line explanation. Thank you for sharing.🐂
Nice looking calf
Congrats! I'm always as excited as a kid at christmas when a cow must calf! Nice looking heifer.
The bull that's come over these cows must have been interesting. I've contact the breeder (who ran multiple sires) to see if he can help. Calves all have patches around their eyes and their eyes almost seem blue. Very striking in person.
Beautiful little calf and cattle
Enjoyable video, interesting about weights,do you hve any murray greys.
I'm custom grazing some Murray Grays and Square Meaters on one of my blocks, you can find them in the vids. Cool animals
You have such beautiful animals.
Thanks! I love breeds that have unique markings, adds a lot of character to the paddock!
@@wolkifarm You and me both
Your channel should be growing soon. Thanks for all your expertise and insights.
Hi mate would mine doing a video explaining and then showing us the cows in what a first cross and second cross means? Along with the to tell the difference between breeds?
@@leighelliott5097 yep, I'll try get one today!
Done ;)
do you do a standard cut sheet or do you make custom choices? which processor do you work with?
@@geoffl we sell individual cuts. When I started we did mainly quarters etc. But now we wholesale and retail direct from our website and people can just order exactly what they want.
Beef sausage ahmen...
Thank you brother this is a great video I have read that book but seeing someone explain it in video is so helpful. I learn heaps by listening to you talk through your processes.
Hey Jake, Loving your content! Keep them coming!!!
@@shanecotty3275 thanks Shane, right back at you!
You do dam well filming what you do with so much on your plate. Thanks
Is the grass planted?
@@emansulman-vt6pf no, just annual self seeding stuff
Love the vids. Joel Salatin mentioned that the cows who didn’t slick off as fast produce a lower quality product. Not sure if that would be the same for Nguni’s.
@@scottlangley5250 I love a fast and early slicking animal. Exudes fertility, health and vibrance. I bought Vumbi because he was polled (scurs not horns). He is also pretty well muscled. Be interesting to see what he looks like in another year!
Eating meat is the way to go. So simple, so easy and so healthy living on fatty meat & eggs. Aka carnivore diet & Dr Ken Berry.
At what age do you send them to the butcher
@@sandilekubeka8375 slaughter can be anywhere depending on 18-24 months depending on the breed and the season
How long did it take them to graze off that pasture ?
@@sandilekubeka8375 we were only in there around 4 days
Great to see you back on RUclips Jake! You need your own show like Clarkson's Farm.
Brilliant.
Very interesting. Here not many cattle with horns, mostly Black Angus. But I think the hot Sun is too hard on them, you have good colors in that regard. I really like your bull, too, except for his horns. Thanks for the video!
The horns are a bit of extra work/respect/risk in the yards & on trucks, but beautiful in the paddock. I have 1 polled Nguni bull, Vumbi. He's really developing nicely. I also think black cows don't make best sense. Heat adapted black do a lot better than British black
Cuánto puede valer un becerro para semental? Será posible traerlo al centro América?
@@eberbartolon1522 I believe Central America already has these genetics or very similar there
@@wolkifarm there is only braman angus simental etc pere nguni there is no
@@eberbartolon1522 I know a guy who has Nguni semen straws in the USA. Might be an easy import for you? He is an Aussie and his name is Henry Townsend.
You should do more butchering videos this year please
@@tinafriesen7115 will do 👍
@@wolkifarm why didn't you buy a pro cut 32 meat grinder with a 2hp motor
@@tinafriesen7115 Never heard of it. Got all my equipment new from 1 local supplier. It's worked out well for ordering spare parts, servicing gear and warranty support (almost no 'warranty' issues). I don't bother out geeking out on gear too much - just generally distracts people from doing the work
