Life is an adventure, taken one photograph at a time!
Come with me as I visit interesting places around Tasmania and the world (when I travel). I'll show you some great locations and offer insights into photography along the way.
I will only talk about camera settings when necessary for a particular shot.
I am a landscape photographer, but anything goes really. I could shoot an epic landscape, or a leaf on a rock.
New places excite me and I believe that excitement comes across in my photography.

One video per week sounds really good. Just do what you feel is right and the audience will find you. Thanks for mentioning my channel❤ Happy New Year 2025.
@@mattisulanto Thanks Matti. It’s a big challenge for me. Even though I may feel like it, the alternative of giving up isn’t an option. Happy new year.
Really great wrap up 🙂👍
@@stigfloberghagenphotography thanks Stig. I’m about to watch yours 😀
Thanks Pete, some lovely images of my backyard and you gave me a few good ideas to try out as well.
@@darrenjennings it’s a wonderful place. Thanks for watching and I’m happy you got some good tips.
What a superb location and awesome weather. Over here we are struggling with minimal semi-daylight for several more weeks.
@@mattisulanto we do have some special moments! Our weather is heavily influenced by the surrounding oceans. Your winter must make outdoor time precious.
@@petemellows Some like our winter and some don't😀 It's a very photogenic season if you just go out first. I prefer something a bit warmer.
Cinematographers have to do similar leveling so that when they pan, the horizon doesn''t tilt.
This video is very informative and helpful. best of luck to you🥰
@@BDRUclipsSEOspecialist cheers and thanks for watching
@@petemellows Appreciate the reply, honestly your way of speaking is very nice.

Thanks for the opportunity Pete! That was a great experience 👌
@@wilkography thank you too! A great location, conversation and coffee.
Thanks for another great interview. Awesome location too😀
I am glad that you liked it. Thank you
Fantastic insights 👍🙂
Yes! Ben has a very clear understanding of where he is going and what he needs to get there. Thank you for watching Stig.
why is this even a question? AI can't be trusted AT ALL!! There is no need for it and with the current state of affairs it is definitely going to abused. Get rid of it
It’s a polarising subject, for sure. As a tool, it can be very useful. But the biggest problem is that humans are inherently lazy and will rely on it to our detriment.
Great video, it was a trip down memory lane for me, I spent many hours exploring North West Bay River as a teenager.
Thanks for sharing. I do share your thoughts on AI in art and I like to make my own judgement on what and how I'm including in my photos. However, I use the AI crop in Photoshop that can expand the photo. It's handy in creating RUclips cover pictures to a certain form and have always enough room for the title too.
@@mattisulanto there is a certainly a place for these tools. I’ve heard so many people defer to AI tools recently (in my circle of friends and acquaintances) that it frustrates me that they prefer not to spend the effort on creating something better. Thanks for watching! And your thoughts.
How often do you use AI tools?
why do you remind me of james may? Anywway, good video.
@@GlasfaserGuenther must be the hair! 😁 Thanks for watching
Pete, amazing review, thank you so much!
Thanks for the opportunity to try the software fully and to add my list of improvements.
Worst thing in Dehancer - its russian origin.
@@fim.design The developers are passionate about the product, which is where I put my focus.
Interesting. AI = The homogenization of art. That's an Ansel Adams level quote. Brilliant. DXO Photolab with the additional Filmpack does these very things with no AI except in the denoise feature. I think it's also a bit cheaper. The DXO film pack I think can also be had as an Adobe plug in or on its own. A very similar product. Of course any Fuji X camera already has the film simulations built in as well.
@@EdwardMartinsPhotography we have many discussions about the effect of generative AI on art and documentation in our home. Interesting about DXO. I briefly looked at it when researching pixel editors, but ended up with the Affinity suite. I do like the direction that Dehancer took, but I think they could really lean into traditional development techniques.
What would you like to see included in a future version of Dehancer Pro?
Love it
I love these conversations with local Tassie photographers. Really interesting. Thanks for sharing Pete.

@@chriscard6544 oh wow! Lovely work. Thank you for sharing.
A huge discovery for me. Thank you so much
Hi Tim, also using the om-1 for macro, albeit with the 30 and 60 mm macro lenses. Do you have a stock setting for f/, number of shots and increments for the in-camera focus stacking? I can't seem to get it right.
Hi Mike. Thanks for your question. Tim doesn't have a public RUclips account, so I'll post his response here. From Tim: That is a tough question. I'd say f stop no higher than f8 to avoid softness/diffraction. I generally use increment of "2", but the further you are from the subject the higher that increment can be. I also don't use focus stacking with the OM, but rather focus bracketing. The bracketing option doesn't spit out a nice jpg automatically, but gives you a lot more flexibility with number of shots. Post processing is required.
@@petemellows wow, thanks for reaching out to Tim and thank you both for the quick response. I have helicon anyway, so processing isn't an issue.
wow, Gill Dayton has really inspired me. what she said and how she said it resonates with me, with where I am in my life and my love of photography.
@@SeaAngMo23 I’m so glad you found some resonance with Gill. Thank you for watching.
I really enjoy how you show off this little island state so well. Those beautiful spots and scenes that just do something for us - and without having to go far from home bases.
I've always love exploration and finding hidden beauty.
Nice light, great video 👌

Lovely weather, great light! Photo rich environment, nice! Hey the arm holding your phone, who makes that if you don't mind me asking? Great job with the soft borders on the Picture in Picture, really first class! 👍👍
Thank Ed. Absolutely worth revisiting. I found the arm on Amazon - some generic brand. The tripod came with a smaller one with a solid metal phone clamp. Cheers
@@petemellows Thanks! I'll take a look. 👍

A very interesting video. I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to future content. 😊😊
Great interview and interviewing. Captured the technical details and a lot of the person
That was a great conversation! I love Gill's work and admire it often through the Aurora Australis Tasmania page and also what pops up in a couple of other Tassie Facebook pages. Such great work! Lovely to hear the something of the human story behind the beautiful images. I know for myself, getting out bush with the camera plays a huge role in my own mental health journey. It's a meditative practice, a connection with self and the simplicity and beauty of what I find around me as I wander. Wander and wonder . . . . so so good for the soul.
@@denisesavage2382 it’s something we both felt important to tell. Working at artistic endeavours is such an important aspect of life and helps alter negative energy to the positive. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
So glad Denise you have found that special kind of reward that nature/photography offers, certainly quite healing 🥰🥰🥰

Thanks Matti. This was such a pleasure to make.
How do you cope with stress? For me, it can be running, riding, wilderness walks or photography.
I’m new to Tasmania and I’m loving the photography opportunities here.
Almost everywhere you look! I hope you enjoy your time here. Thanks for watching
I enjoyed that a lot.
leaving for Italy on Sunday, very interested to see what you pack on a trip.
@@andymueller82 Italy is incredible for photography. So many epic scenes! Definitely take a wide angle for those! I found loads of small details in the cities too - I’d suggest a lightweight zoom, if you have one, to save swapping lenses all the time: perhaps a 70-300. No matter which region you visit, I’m sure you’ll have an amazing time.
@@petemellows Thank you for those suggestions! It will be a great trip!
Love those images you found on the way back. I've often thought I'd like to see the space of the yarn without water. It would be so different.

We just need to look for it
@@petemellows easy to say, but yes, at least try
Spot on! It's not easy to see and takes real effort.
What a lovely surprise! If you can't find the film camera - I've a Pentax one sitting in my place that I can pass along. The lenses I have for it mean I can go for f8 on them all. And I also noticed that the battery drained quite quickly - it may have been sitting in the shop for awhile given it isn't a regular type of one. There if you want to have a play with that film you've scored!
That’s so wonderful of you! What’s the best way to get in contact?
The bag is a perfect size for the Pentax 17 I think, my 17 is due to be delivered this week.
@@melbournepixs I was tempted to buy one to go in the bag, but I balked at the $900!
Pentax has zero support in the USA. I remember when they were in Colorado when it was still Pentax under Hoya, those guys had all but given up, but you could call them and ask them tech questions and they would do their best. Under Ricoh, in the USA, they use the same call center that handles Ricoh's copiers and it's worthless. Ah, but then Americans only want the newest and shiniest stuff even if it's not as good. 🙂 Nice bag o' goodies!
Support here is good with the Pentax distributor, CR Kennedy. Promotion is not though. Apparently they gave away some 17s in Sydney, but generally they preach to the choir here. That’s why I was so surprised with the mystery box. Cheers
