    This is very informative and makes me want to go. I am planning to the do the hike early October. For the group tour application, did you need to have prior experience hiking in snow?

    • @JohnHikerDolar
      @JohnHikerDolar 5 дней назад

      Thank you very much for the kind words. Off season hike in October should be fine without snow hiking experience. But there might be some cases where we get an early snow at the peak. So having set of skills like how to use the ice ax, how to walk on crampons and how to self-arrest is important.

    • @JohnHikerDolar
      @JohnHikerDolar 5 дней назад

      Hi!! Yeah. Without a climbing guide yes you’ll need to file in some paperwork by yourself. You’ll need an itinerary, list of gears, maybe experience to get a climbing permit in the off-season. It also involves notifying the local police station of your climbing plan. You’ll see more info on the official Mount Fuji webpage. I linked it in the description.

    Hi - discovering this video that will be really helpful to organize a hiking vacation in Japan. Quick question (as I am very used to hike in South Korea but booking for a hut is a challenge as they do not have reservation site or phone line in English): is it possible to book a hut spot with a website in English accepting international credit card ? Thanks !

    • @JohnHikerDolar
      @JohnHikerDolar 9 дней назад

      Hi!! Most of the bigger huts have online reservations. The page might be in Japanese but can be translated to English. The thing with credit cards is not all huts accept credits online so I recommend bringing cash with you. So in conclusion, huts in remote areas maybe difficult to book online but popular places such as this have good online websites for online bookings.

      @@JohnHikerDolar Got the route from the Lonely Planet Hiking in Japan book. It was amazing - my best hiking experience in Japan with only one day of foul weather, when I hid in a yamagoya (can't imagine putting my tent up in that weather, I'd probably lose it to the wind). Tsurigi was a bit of a shock since my pack was over 20kg, which made balance very challenging. I never forgot people walking down a smooth slab without trouble before Tsurigi which I was nearly stuck on since 20kg on my back meant my boots did not want to grip, with the sheer cliff drop at the slab bottom - could have done with a small rope to lower my bag ahead of myself. Honestly I said to myself I would not do Tsurigi with a heavy pack again. Hope to go back and do Tate-yama some day.

      For Yari-hotaka circuit, if you’re passing through daikiretto then you have to climb up Hasegawa peak. Your exit is towards kawasawa cirque via Kitahotaka. And minamidake is your exit if you’re skipping daikiretto. I hope this helps.

      @@JohnHikerDolar Thank you v much for your response! May I know where did you reserve your stays at both mountains? Was it also compulsory to send in a itinerary to the official Kamikochi Alps authorities?

    just want to add the senjijoki cirque in the komagatake mountain range in the central alps about an hour/two by train from Matsumoto to the list, absolutely stunning views, you can view mount fuji from the base of the cirque and it is open all year long (unlike kamikochi, for instance) with hikes for both very experienced and casual hikers, unreal place to visit and the best part of my japan trip

      Hi!! Yeah for sure! 👍 I’ll visit there this August. Climb Utsugidake and komagatake as well. Hopefully I can document it well.

      @@JohnHikerDolar sounds great, I highly recommend visiting after a snowfall if you want to do some climbing in tougher conditions. Would love it if you made some videos climbing there, haven't seen many videos of the cirque online

    Thank you for this sharing, it really open up new option to hike up Mt Fuji. But I am a bit worry about the day hike and whether there is cut-off time?

    • @JohnHikerDolar
      @JohnHikerDolar 2 месяца назад

      There’s actually no cut-off time. Everything depends on the weather and snow conditions. With proper permission you can climb but there aren’t any facilities. so you’d need portable toilet if ever you’d want to go number 2.

    Thank you for your informative video. I am planning a trip to Okinawa/Miyakojima. How are the food prices compares to major Japanese cities, such as Tokyo, Osaka, etc. The reason I ask is because some island destinations, due to its remote location, cost of everyday living is actually higher than major mainland cities. Thank you for your kind information.
