KAYAK FISHING FOR BLACK BREAM AND HERRING
Hey paddy, im down in the south west right now (summer). Can you please tell me some good spots to catch some bigger offshore species like tailor and the likes? I really want to get some action in but havent found any good spots.
@goatspyro hey mate its all obviously weather and wind dependant , for tailor head to bunker bay that's a good starting point and walk to where there is waves you want offshore winds as well so a SE or SW will be fine there , or go to the west coast around injidup , you want an easterly all along that side and also check the swell , if you want something bigger catch some small herring and send them out as live bait , I use google earth a lot to find spots
Hey paddy I was wondering as I’m going for a holiday in bunker bay could you please let me know the spot where you caught the salmon
hey mate wondering, if you fish more the quindalup side of the flats and what tide is best, tried a few time with not much luck
@falconsfb0229 hey mate I fish more the Dunsborough side , and the tides tbh haven't looked to much into it i normally fish when I get the chance , but if it's a really low tide I found its no good , except fishing the deeper pools
do u know how to use them i plan on getting some and have no idea
@GloryGloryToSouthSydney too be honest not really , they are essentially a vibe , I just sort of cast at snags etc then lift it up and down off the bottom , majority of the bigger bream just smash it once it's its sitting still
do u know how to use them i plan on getting some and have no idea
Crayfish? That’s the gotta be the most unexpected bycatch
Bloody delcious little snack right there Patrick ,, onya mate ..🤙🍻
good to see you back posting Paddy!
@LightTackleAnglerWA thanks mate
Hi mate where is this area im from buso
Great video Paddy 👍
Cracking session Paddy.. That 2nd one is probably the biggest Aussie Salmon I've seen being caught... you must be in WA? Congrats on 1k subscribers.. Great viewing mate.
@@SteveOutside thanks mate
@SteveOutside yeah the second salmon was solid , down in south west wa
What time of day is that paddy
@@MartinFearon-x9g got there at 6 in the morning and left at 9
Onya Paddy ..🤙nice work brother
Paddy, I would never presume to tell you how to fish but the “breakaway sinker” is designed to be fished with the prongs pointing upwards at an angle to the sinker so when it is in the sand the prongs act as an anchor and straighten out (as you demonstrated at the start when they were pointing down) when the fish takes the bait and swims away or when you pull against the line to bring in your rig…..What a great session and thanks for sharing….(so pleased to have found your channel).
Was this down bunkers bay?
Salmon make good fishcakes it takes that strong taste away.
@@grimreaper6112 I just beer batter them that day there normally not too bad
Where ya fishing mate
also good smoked 👍🏽👍🏽
Rapala are the tits, on the ones with trebles i swap em out for bkk diablo singles
What setup are you on?
Shimano Stradic ci4 2500 , shimano zodias 2-4 kg
It is a luderick
how far down where you?
@@atlas2002r after the sand bar , when the majority of the weed starts
@@patrickkbell thanks
for sale?
@@atlas2002r nah , my stash
you ar not hooking them, with light strike.
I'm hooking them fine , herring are notorious for falling off
Love that there less talking & more action ;) Big respect fella. TY “Earned fish 🎣 freedom” 🩵
are they available all season?
Yeah pretty much obviously when it's winter and the water is dirty it will be harder , in winter I use pencil jigs with fresh fish on it with a float
@@patrickkbell im coming by to busselton next month wat jig should i use? and how do u set it up? im kinda a beginner in fishing
@WolfCFR well at night I use a white jig with red eyes , they seem to be the go , then pencil jigs are a bit different , kinda hard to explain via text , but my advice is head to the local tackle store , I always go to tackle world busselton , and just hit them up for rigs etc , it's a lot easier to explain in person .
Also just google rigs online and put in key words for what your trying to do , then copy the pictures , if your new to fishing I'd start looking up basic knots etc to help you get going .
Can never have enough lures
Nice mate, hitting up he Blackwood again? I have a few Sazanamis, sure do get the big fish out of structure, I find they are best around Molloy Island in shallow water.
Yeah was gonna head off to the Blackwood on the weekend , yeah those sazanamis look the goods hey
@@patrickkbell yeah and they are the goods, good luck at the Blackwood.looking to get myself a kayak2fish 11.5 for fishying soon
What little crawfish plastic was that?
Think it was a zman crawz
Thanks
Set up mate can’t even tell whether it’s your shed or a tackle shop😂
Do you loose many having the fast tapered zodias and those small trebles?
Mmm this one is good , I have ul version as well slightly different in regards to taper , but still good
@@patrickkbell yeah sick coz I don’t rlly want to spend money on more rods
@EzraSwannellFishing yeah I'm happy with the zodias , quality in my opinion
This looks perfect 👌 do you know what month it was? I'll probably look at heading down that way in April or may
I can't remember to be honest , I remember it rained that day , so I would say around April may , before winter i think .
come on back man, you're easily one of the best fishing channels on YT
Thanks mate , been trying don't worry , fishing is unpredictable unfortunately
Can i trawl behond my dinghy in geograph?
Yeah for sure , I haven't trawled a lot in the bay myself , always worth a try though
Absolutely loving your content brother just found your account watched fair few videos now Should do more live bait videos that was sick but anyway have a good one man 🤙
Thanks man , been hard lately to get out of late , hopefully get some videos out soon .
@@patrickkbellyeah man fair enough will be waiting 😂🤙 Just a quick question would you 40lb braid would be okay for live baiting around?
@JJ_shorts_ yeah it will just depends how bigger fish your targeting I tend to stick to 50lb , you can still cast pretty well with it , mind you I have lost a lot of bigger fish on 50lb
Hey mate what size rod were you using?
Can't remember to be honest I think 6-8 kg
Thought fish had to be placed on ice after catching and dispatching? Is a bucket of water okay for a few hours? I see that's what you've done. Will me save carrying a cooler with ice.
Yeah depends on the weather etc , but when your on foot with gear it's hard to carry ice , majority of the time for it's the water bucket which I continually change
Awesome video man. Squid has always given me the creeps, anything with tentacles to be fair actually. Might try it out after seeing this! What's the most humane way to dispatch them?
karate chop just above the eyes
U near old dunsie?
Nah eagle bay
Also paddy how does the nextgen 11.5 go?
Good man , obviously everyone wants a Hobie , but there soo expensive , but this vessel has been fun so far
I tried a mates hobie at Molloy island and they are better, but not by $3000…
@@patrickkbellhave u tried the ng11? The 11.5 is a fair bit more expensive and I’m close to broke sooo
@@EzraSwannellFishing yeah that's what I had first , cost around 800 I think , was ok definitely did the job but , obviously a lot easier with the one I have now
@@patrickkbellyeah I wanna buy a hobie passport 12r but they’re not stocked in Australia yet. Mainly want it because of the kick up fins.
I have binge-watched all of your videos and learned a lot about how to catch fish near the surface. I wonder if 2wd or AWD can reach that spot?
Thanks for watching , I'm not going to give away the spot , but its a 7 km walk there and back that's all I'm saying yeeee
@@patrickkbellgood man not giving away spots
I always use a leash for my Rod. Had to learn the hard way
Losing your rod in the drink is no fun ha , this particular combo is worth around 500 or so , had today try retrieve it at least lol
@@patrickkbellyeah for real. The one I lost was 389 so not as much but stall a loss
We will be in Dunsborough in March 2024. Bunker Bay one of your go to fishing places? Any others spots around the area worth a try? Thanks Cheers
Bunker bay will be good at that time of year for salmon and tailor etc , just check winds for offshore conditions . Plenty of spots just depends on the wind I always look for the wind blowing offshore , google earth is a good way to find spots
Good stuff, might see you out there. Thanks, cheers
What would you say is better mate? The trusty grub or mussel lure?
Geez I dunno , all my biggest bream have been on the muss , but it all depends I switch up all the time trying to find what they are into on the day , but my go to lure to begin with is the muss .
@@patrickkbellyeah sounds good mate- I’m only 12 so being able to afford mussel lures is a tough one 😆 I tend to stick to the grub for that reason, plus the Blackwood is stricken with timber snags. I’ll have to gene the mussels a try tho.. 👍
@@EzraSwannellFishing don't worry I was young once and couldn't always have the tackle I wanted it sucked , one day you'll have a job be able afford all the good stuff .
@@patrickkbellhave u tried the Scott river? Best spot. Period. Bream in huge numbers there. I caught a 38, 36.5 and a 35 there. It’s super shallow and great for sugapens.
@@EzraSwannellFishing I actually haven't hey I done the lap around Molloy and caught 1 bream so semi deterred , but always been keen to have a go
Loved this video, nice variety of fish and that spot is an absolute dream!!
Thanks mate
NIce one brother , good to see ya back 🤙🔥💯
Cheers bloke
Did you catch a fish in the ocean.. who would have thought that possible. (Dumbass gets born onto the planet and thinks he's the first to catch a fish)
keen video man, keep it up!
i ate a flounder from there a week ago. tastes great
👍
Haha that’s cute, I’ve also caught a few little ones like that. They do put on a decent fight on my 1-2kg rod.
Cant tell but are you letting the soft plastic hit the bottom first ?
Bit of both really sometimes hit the bottom , other time stop it just before
Regardless letting it sink a long way most of the times ?@@patrickkbell
