Stress flares mine up too
Yes, any kind of physical or psychological stress can do it. Hope you are managing ok overall!
Thank you for the explanation
I find weather changes often worsen my symptoms as well. I used to think it was just cold weather, but last couple of summers (Australia), I've felt like humidity flares me too

My dad and grandma has it. My hands go greyish blue and purple in the cold or when I’m anxious dies this mean I have it? Does it progress over time?
Raynaud's it's the fingers that tend to change colour rather than the hands. You need a Doppler test to diagnose. It can get worse over time but it usually stays fairly consistent

Hi Jack, thanks for your video. I was diagnosed with PMR two months ago and I was put on a course of steroids 25 mg for four weeks before I started taking them. I could hardly get out of bed or do anything for most of the day but once I started taking the steroids, I could not believe it I felt great for most of the day, but then at night the pain would return. Is this common or should the pain stay away for the whole day? For the last month, I have been taking 20 mg of steroids, but I seem to have constant pain in my shoulders not as bad as when I was not taking the steroids but still a bit painful Should I go back to 25 mg or continue trying to decrease the dosage
@@terrymccaw9786 Hi Terry, I can't comment on individual circumstances I am afraid. I would say if there is still night pain then the diagnosis needs definite confirmation. If you aren't under a rheumatologist I would suggest that is a good next step
Thank you, really useful
Would you give a woman a steroid when she already has osteoporosis? Blood test for PMR are always normal. But all symptoms for PMR are there except weight loss.
if blood tests arent there it isnt PMR. You have to weigh up the pro and cons of the steroid. There are situations where they would be necessary and some where they can be avoided

Ty. I was diagnosed with UCTD 10 years ago. Also with Hashimoto's 30 years ago. Feel like I'm dying every day. Not sick enough to get any kind of help and doctors, family and friends roll their eyes at me. It's very discouraging. The emotional pain from gaslighting is more painful than the physical symptoms.
I hope this all improves for you soon 🤞
Rule out tickborne diseases. Borrelia triggered/mimicked mine and antibiotics and diet changed helped.

Hi Jack, love your videos! What are your thoughts about those with hEDS and ?psoriatic arthritis, I am aware there is a link between those with hEDS at increased risk of rheumatoid conditions, but the symptoms can sometimes overlap and make things difficult to be confident.
Hi David, no increased risk of inflammatory diseases with hyper mobility as it is not inflammatory. The presence of inflammation and inflammatory symptoms usually makes for a fairly easy distinction. It is more of a challenge in some though of course and referral to rheumatologist will be the best option 👍
Thank you✨
PMR affects far more than just the shoulders.
Yes but is characterised by affecting 90% of people with the condition in the shoulders... I have other videos on the channel that go into more detail 👍
I wished I would have none this sooner
better late than never hopefully!

But which one is the one that makes your fingers crooked and deformed?????
Both can
I've had Ulcerative colitis since '97 and find that exercise seems to either bring on symptoms or make them worse, maybe it's a coincidence. I've mentioned it to doctors but they seem very sceptical. I've started exercising again but it makes me nervous.
Good luck with the process!
Would you mind me asking can , you diagnose patients as my rhumatologist hasn't listened to any of my symptoms I'm suffering with along with a hla b27, and just discharged me 😢...don't know where to turn to as living in chronic pain and no sleep is literally killing me. Hi Gemma, I can't diagnose Rheumatology Diseases as only a Rheumatologist can. Other issues I can 👍

But...just looked at my patient summary report to try medical cannabis, and it says Muskoskeletal Connective Tissue Disease this was dated 2014, Never told or referred. I did have Ana tests in 2017 and apparently negative. I just dont understand, can a dr write that without bloods. But i was having lots at the time from the surgery. Spinal triage found i was hla b27 in 2016 but no Inflammation found on sacral image. Sent away. Been in and out of hospital on iow in sooo much pain its unbearable. what are the diagnostic tests for these?
Not truly diagnostic but CRP +ve and HAL-B27 +ve are what we look for
Great video - btw, you missed an 'm' in 'inflammatory'
That comment is inflamatory 😆😆 glad you found the rest of it great!
Hi, are shoulder symptoms required? I’m seeing a guy for his knee and more recently been complaining about bilateral groin pain worse in the morning but goes away completely as the day progresses. Has had shoulder pain for years, but nothing abrupt or new. Doesn’t impact his dressing or reaching. Diagnosed with PMR and now on steroids, but my gut feeling is he just had bilateral hip OA. I know this isn’t complete, but initial thoughts regarding lack of new shoulder symptoms?
10% of patients will be hip involvement only but this is pelvic girdle pain rather than specifically groin. I would tend to agree with your analysis based on the information provided
@@TheRheumatologyPhysio thank you. He did have CRP at 24 (or did he say -24, don’t recall, and sadly don’t know the numbers). So very possible it is, but I’m really not great with rheum. Again, not changing my treatment of his knee, but I did incorporate more hip stretches and positioning advice to see if that might help things. Then again, he’s on steroids so I’d expect some decrease in pain regardless with 15mg/day. Will monitor.
@@ydubin 24 not that high, has he seen Rheumatology? That would be what I do. He will definitely get better on that prednisolone regardless!
@@TheRheumatologyPhysio yes, he is currently seeing rheum and was given that diagnosis. After listening to this podcast over the weekend I have my doubts. Especially with the lack of new shoulder symptoms. Appreciate your help!

After 2 years of tingling in my feet, which began to occur when I pressed anywhere on my back. Fatigue after sleep, cold feet and legs, dry skin, stomach cramps that felt like I was being clawed from the inside and now upper back pain that doesn’t go away- I was diagnosed with this. I had already seen orthopaedic surgeon and neurologist finally saw a rheumatologist and within 20 minutes he told me this what I have. I don’t have any primary conditions. However my childhood was extremely traumatic.
I hope everything can move forwards for you now!
