Our trip of a lifetime driving overland from Falkirk, Scotland (Caledonia) to Cape Town, South Africa. We departed Scotland on 13th June 2019 and arrived in Cape Town on the 15th December 2020 after 31 countries, 48000kms and 18 months on the road.
We are Ken & Lorraine, retired, we now live in Cape Town and instead of slowing down, we are continuing our travels throughout Southern Africa as much as we can.

Club Elani at Misverstand Dam
Short video of our weekend away as spring approaches the Western Cape.
The dam is still in flood after the recent rains although the water level did go down overnight.

Short video of a long weekend away with Peter and Camping Off The Beaten Track. Only as far as Redelinghuys but still nice to get away. Unfortunately we had a mechanical issue, broken alternator but Toyota in Clanwilliam sorted us out and on a Friday afternoon too.

Another trip into our happy places of the Karoo and Cederberg. This time we took along a friend who had never been and thoroughly enjoyed the trip. As always the area and scenery do no disappoint but unfortunately a camera malfunction caused me to lose the footage of the very rough 16km track to Langkloof Campsite and the animals including a large 2m puff adder sitting in front of us in the road.

Not a part of our Caledonia to Cape Town trip but our summer (January) trip with family to the caves. Lovely resort with plenty for the kids to do, run about, play ball and of course swim! And jump, slide, twirl, somersault into the pool in any number of variations, they had a ball! The trip up to the caves was good, if a little warm but worth seeing. A favourite campsite of ours, we introduce our friends Paul & Ann to camping in the Cederberg. Only 230kms or about 3 hours from Cape Town, we enjoy the area and in particular this camp. 3 nights is never long enough but we do manage to enjoy visits to Kromrivier, Truitjieskraal and Stadsaal to look at the rock art and the amazing sculpted rocks.

Part of our Caledonia to Cape Town trip, we stopped at Canyon Roadhouse campsite in the south of Namibia so we could visit the canyon. It did not disappoint, it is spectacular, so peaceful and quiet that we consider it as a highlight of the country.

During our stay in Zambia we were lucky to take a trip to the falls. Right on the border between Zambia and Tanzania they are spectacular even if it is difficult to get a good view of them.

Our first time away with Camping Off The Beaten Track and meeting a few members. They were on an extended trip of 20 days and multiple camps but it was good to join them and see what they are all about. As the name suggests, they enjoy the great outdoors off the tracks and generally camp off grid.

Hi, yes, thanks, I noticed you as well, both trucks, also looking good!. Why I was so slow is my rear main spring was broken at front mount and was held in by a ratchet strap round chassis and one from chassis back around the axle. Broke it in the Richtersveld, limped 90km to Goegap NR then down home. It's a long road from Springbok to Brackenfell at 70 km/hr lol. Also drove here from Scotland with not even a puncture inc our trailer so a bit pi$$ed that things are breaking now.
@@caledoniatocapetownthat is crazy, would not have said you were actually driving with a 'semi broken' suspension at the time. And from Springbok all the way back at 70 must have been so frustrating. Well done for fixing it up yourself to get home at least. I visit the Ricthersveld a few times a year for work and know that the roads there is extremely unforgiving. Very fotunate for me I have not had any issues because of that road yet, but it can be 'your day' any day when you go there, the road is bad. Lastly, keep in mind that the vehicles takes a beating over time each time they get used on a gravel road with the loads on the back that we use, so at some stage the wear & tear just goes beyond that fine line, and something might give in. We just returned from a trip to Kenya. What an incredible place. The people, animals and scenery were breathtaking.
