It was very nice to see a solid review with a divergent conclusion from the majority opinion, without being the common "spiteful contrarian": the constrasts with the book were particularly insightful. Watching you took me back to 2011 and all that "RUclips root era" jazz. Hahaha. I hope your channel prospers. Cheers, from São Paulo.

For me, the FL is the one who ruins it, because her partner does seem to be invested in the relationship, just very busy and I think may be autistic, and not understand non verbal. If you are in a relationship with someone like that it is your obligation to TELL them when things are wrong and not just sigh about it. Because they literally can't tell that something is wrong otherwise. It felt like her character was about how she felt everything should just go perfectly and she gave up at the first sign of conflict in the relationship, and would rather lust after an older man than say "hey, I know you are busy but being in a place where I don't know the language and am alone most of the time is making me feel depressed. William Peter Blatty explained in a 1998 interview, “The exorcist is Karras. And Regan’s possession is the crucible of his struggle for faith, his salvation.” The author went on to attribute uncertainty over the identity of the exorcist to an imbalance of narrative attention in his script, with Merrin seeming more like the titular character “because so much of Karras is missing”. He also characterized Karras’ suicide as “his total triumph… an act of love and self-sacrifice,”

So instead of merging at one pre-defined and easy to spot location, you suggest "merge early" works better, because? All problems you mention also exist when merging early. It slows down the cars behind, it doubles the amount of traffic in the destination lane, and so on. So you won't win anything by merging early. You only create extra problems, of wich the unused stretch of road is the easiest one to spot. The biggest problem with merge early is that everybody has a different concept of "early", causing *multiple* zipper points. The person that merged earlier than you, will consider you the one that tries to merge "too late" and might try to block you. If you still succeed, there are now two cars from the disappearing lane in a row. Add another even later "early merger" and there are now three cars in a row originating from that lane. And that's even before you reach the actual merging point! If you merge lane A and B, the outcome should be A B A B A B, not A B B A B B B A B A A B B B A B B which so often happens when people switch lanes whenever they see a gap large enough to jump into. So to make things easier: just follow the zipper merge advice. It clearly shows where to merge and does not leave half a lane open for cars to "jump the queue". You can't jump the queue when merging is done like it should. All drawbacks you mention are not solved by merging early. It just messes things up. After all, a true zipper has just one slider.

Zipper merges work if they occur after a bottleneck, like an intersection. Worst case scenario, the cars in the merge lane stop but still made it through the intersection and increased the flow rate. The real reason they're implemented so frequently is because multiple studies have determined it reduces driver frustration despite no change in delay.

...You realize that traffic is *always* going to slow at a merge, because, you know, you're turning two lanes into one? You're arguing against the concept of reducing lanes (which is always going to be a thing that has to happen sometimes). Zipper merging is just how you do that the least poorly.

Zipper merging would (mostly) work in America if there was some way to enforce it. Americans are too egotistical and rushed when driving to do it themselves (I try when possible to adhere to it, however that usually isn’t an option). It probably has to do with the sheer distances Americans drive and how rushed we are constantly, but there is no way to get people here to willingly adhere to it, at least for awhile

  • @Sutti4844

its a pretty easy concept to understand, if all the cars are going the same slower speed and a the car in your lane in front of you lets a car in then its your turn to let in the next car in next lane over in also, and then the car behind you should then let the next car in and so forth. much quicker then trying to jam yourself in early slamming on your brakes causing the cars behind to also slow down. much quicker then trying to merge late and getting stuck because you ran out of road and the lanes are going different speeds.
