14 Day New Zealand Road Trip P1 - Queenstown & Milford Sound
Welcome to New Zealand! After leaving Sydney, we headed straight to Queenstown and picked up a hire car. This would be the starting point for an epic 14-day road trip. We took an incredible Fiord cruise on Milford Sound and even saw some wild dolphins. As we drove around the South Island, we were in awe of the mountainous landscapes and vast lakes.

Love the conversion! What materials you used for the insulation?
@@Vladkostyk thanks! Foil type for the vapour barrier and then wool type for the main body.
@@HarryEmblemThanks about the foil. I got it, I know that. I wanted to ask, maybe the link where I ordered this material?
@ any diy store should have it. I will try and find a link for you 👍
@@HarryEmblem Thank you
pity 'bout the clouds
Maybe its just me eh! I did the hoodlining and carpet/underfloor deep clean fairly early, so I had a clean environment to work in when pulling the dash out etc as it was pretty grimy eh. Plus, the entire task can seem daunting if its not broken up into smaller achievable milestones. Thanks for the feedback on the music, it seems to be that people either love it or hate it, nothing in the middle... cheers!
Good proper job young man.
@@jeff7546 thanks mate! 😁
I had exactly the same problem with my bed on my conversion! didn’t take into account the roof cladding and the mattress had to cut the legs by two inches your van build vids helped me a lot it’s a lot different from watching a ten min time lapse than doing the work tho! My bed took me 3 days to make the electrics were the worrying part but turned out to be the easiest job of the lot
Sounds good! I'm glad my videos could help you mate :)
Boys the birds you saw flying around Noosa are called Brahminy Kites. I fish a lot off the beach in that Cool town just south of Noosa. Any undersize fish that have swallowed the hook to far down are now bird food. I just wave the fish around until they see me, which isn't long. Then I throw the fish down the beach and they swoop down and pick up it up with their big claws and fly away. It's pretty cool 🦅🐟👍

Can you remember what heatproof sealant you used under the plate, I presumed it worked ok
Also did the van floor etc around it get very hot?
Can't remember the exact type, I just made sure it was a high quality one

That’s a cool way to see Australia 👍did it in a vw camper back in the day ucould get a year travel visa provided u had£2500 in your bank and a flight ticket return for a year for under 25 yr olds it was a great exchange rate at the time as well four Aussie dollar to the pound
Thanks mate, it really was! That sounds awesome, much different now lol 😁
Great job mate! Is it still classified as a van or you had to change it to a campervan? How much is the road tax for this vehicle? Thanks.
@@kwiatekhotmail thank you! Yep still classed as a van. So the standard tax rate for a van. Which I think is about £300
So if it's still classified as a van does the conversion affect your MOT? like you have to put the bulkhead back just for the MOT or something? I'm going to convert my van as well but don't know where to start. Yours looks really good . Thanks 👍
@@kwiatekhotmail It depends what you do in the back, always best to speak to a garage and qualified mechanic 👍 Good luck with the build and enjoy 😃
The roof vent is installed back to front. leave it open slightly and the wind from driving will rip it off. other than that it's a lovely little conversion.
@@VanOnTour it’s not, it opens with the large gap towards to rear of the vehicle. Thank you :)
How much if I get one and ask you to do this amazingmlness for my one day to be home? You did beautiful work :)❤

Where did you find the carpet? I’ve been trying to find it for so long, is it actually carpet? Or felt? Any help would be appreciated
Hi mate, its called easy liner lining carpet 4 way stretch - hope that helps

Hello! So it looks like i might actually be able to start my van conversion soon. I wondered if you could tell me the best way to get the split charge system cables to the van battery? As id like to do this first, which it looks like you have done also? Iv rewatched your videos a few times now in preparation for my build lol! Great guide and good work :)
@@bennym2893 hi, make sure you’ve researched the electrical charging system properly! I’m not an electrical engineer, just make sure you consider the type of alternator. You might need a dc-dc charger if you have a newer van. Good luck with the build !
@@HarryEmblem Hi Harry, thanks for the response, im reasonably competent when it comes to electrical stuff, but i just wondered the actual routing of the cables, whereabouts did you take them through the bulkhead into the engine bay?
@@bennym2893 nice one. Yeah that’s correct mate, there’s some small gaps in the bulkhead for wiring. Near the glove box
@@HarryEmblem spot on mate, will take a look when i get started with the rear strip out :) Thanks for getting back to me
nice job!

Just bought a 2012 transit connect and now im trying to figure out what to do. I feel like ur channel will definitely help me out
@@apollodayz4491 thanks mate! All the best :)
Good build. Nice set up. What I want to know is, many vanlifers put the electrics under the bed. Surely this doesn't do the energy in your body any good? I mean, just like mobile phones, we don't know what they are doing to us. So, if we put our heads over the battery box, what's that doing to us? I would actually prefer to have the electrics on the side slide door. But, anyway, good build nonetheless.
I have just started my own connect camper conversion love these films the electrics and the bed making have shown me the way for an easyer build👍
Sounds good! I'm glad the videos could help :)
@@HarryEmblem what size ah inverter do you use and where did u get the foam mattress and cover
@@garythwilliams8732 hi mate, it’s a 2000w inverter and the other two bits are from Amazon
@@garythwilliams8732 check out the full time lapse video, all links are in the description of that
Really nice build, I've just bought a Transit Connect to convert, having previously converted two larger vans, had a very similar layout to yourself in mind so Really useful to get a sense of space and how it can turn out.

Hi! Can I ask you how you attached your side piece of ceiling cladding over the metal bit that sticks out? 6:29
@@kerigiguere3941 Hi, if you check out episode 7 in the series it goes into some more detail on the cladding. All of the ceiling cladding is attached to wooden beams which are fixed to the metal structure of the van. Hope that helps!
@@HarryEmblemhi thanks! I can't seem to see anything on the cladding on ep 7 🤔 I just wondered how u got your cladding so close to the sides of the van ceiling as mine creates a big gap
@@kerigiguere3941 it’s tongue and groove cladding, so it’s slotted in to the piece next to it. But it’s mainly secured by the wooden beam which spans the width of the ceiling
yes I have this too. I tried to take a screenshot of the part I mean but it won't let me. How far over were u able to put the side bits of cladding? As I think I either will have to have a big gap it cut a bit out of the cladding to go around the bit of metal that sticks out if this all makes sense 😅@@HarryEmblem
@@kerigiguere3941 I’m not sure which but of metal you mean that’s sticking out. Drop me a message on instagram and I might be able to help
Hi, nice conversion! Do you find you're managing ok without a pop up roof being so tall? Wondering if my own needs a pop up. Thanks !
@@SeaHollyRose thank you! I would definitely love a van with a pop up roof! I don’t think it would be well suited to this transit connect. It’s also a consideration of budget, as they can get expensive!
@@HarryEmblem thanks for your reply and opinion 👍🏻 hoping you've received my email asking if you do conversions, certainly be something I'm interested in with my van.
@@SeaHollyRose thanks! I’ll take a look :)
Maybe a car-bro can help, but are American versions of the Ford Transit Connect bigger? I swear every American Vanlifer who converts theirs has more headroom and slightly wider space to work with, maybe its the style of the conversion not sure.
@@eddy_creative hi mate! This is a transit connect, which is a smaller combi version of the normal Transit
@@HarryEmblem Ohh I know but I think the USA version is bigger? (connect). Look at "Jugaad It Yourself " her channel. She has so much space above her head, and its in a connect, not transit 😅 Everything is bigger in US i guess!
@@eddy_creative Oh really! I’ll take a look haha, yeah you might be right 🤣
How wide is that cabinet on the bottom?
Hi mate, not sure! It pretty much spans that gap between side door and rear door though
Well done on your new van. Enjoy and good luck with it
Thanks James!
Great build, what’s the shelf bracket on the rear door? Where did you get them from? Cheers
Thank you! I think it was from Amazon mate
What year is your van?
2013 mate
Nice
Thank you 🙌
Interesting walk. I’ve walked loads around that lovely area. It has connections with Octavia Hill who founded The National Trust. That ‘sundial’ is a triangulation point. Ide Hill nearby is the highest village in Kent. It’s a great area to find wild camping spots near The Greensand Way and further West towards Westerham and into The Surrey Boarder.
Thank you! Very interesting area, there is so much to see if you go looking !
Hi Harry welcome back. Take care and good luck
Thanks James, hope you are well
Can I ask..where did you place your battern to attach the cladding to at the rear of the van? And how did you hold it in place please? I've the same van and this is becoming a challenge lol. Thank you!
Hi, if you check out episode 7 that might help you out, it shows the cladding in a bit more detail. It’s essentially screwed into the internal framing of the van. It’s a difficult one that, good luck! Hope it helps
@@HarryEmblem thank you! Yeah finding it tricky! Also is your cladding tongue and groove?
@@kerigiguere3941 yes mate it is tongue and groove
why your Dumaguete episode never uploaded?
It will be coming soon! 🤞 Stick with me
wicked job! i wish my TC looked this good. that amount of insulation must make it impossible to get a cell or wifi signal though?
Thanks mate! It’s actually okay, with open access to the front cab I think that helps
How long did it take to build this van days weeks or months someone who has the same thoughts here in Sweden
I think around 5 months
