Hi team I am struggling with bouncy key issue on my 73 from 79. Do you have an idea of the root cause ? Might it be the hammer line position versus the key contact line ? I am living in France so I cannot send you my Piano.. hence my question online 😅 Big thanks to you guys you are doing the best job ever

I have a buzz on mine, so am gonna watch this... Tines and Reeds, please apply subtitles in English. Great video and informative despite the language difference. I grounded the sustain in a similar method, though there's still a buzz from somewhere else. I am assuming that the rhodes just needs an earth from the mains or something.... any ideas on this, I am all ears 😃

Awesome work as always, Christian @tinesreeds6143! Love the A/B comparison, and the technical analysis vs. actually playing and listening. I actually modified my Rhodes way back in the early 80s some time after I read this Fachblatt article, and was very pleased with the sound (like the Rhodes on the Al Jarreau albums of that era, "This Time", "Breakin' Away", and especially "Jarreau", on which the infamous Leeds Rentals E-Rhodes was used as I learned later) - exactly because of the reasons you pointed out so clearly: This mod delivered a nice balance of custom tailored bell tone for each register - while using an EQ to significantly boost 2-5 kHz made the upper register practically unusable.* Today, however, I would not want to miss the warm tone of the original Rhodes setup without those condensers, especially after your great restoration, Christian. Which brings us to… There was another mod in those days (I never had this on of my Rhodes pianos) which addressed this issue from another angle: Splitting the three main registers low/mid/high to three separate XLR outputs (not sure though if those were balanced) so the EQ could be set differently for each register…

Danke Dir, insbesondere für den eindrucksvollen A/B Vergleich! Mein Rhodes war, als ich es kaufte, auch so verbastelt - ich hatte das damals sofort zurückgebaut. Dabei ist Vorsicht geboten: An einigen Pickup-Spulen musste ich nachlöten; die Anschlussdrähte sind empfindlich, und wenn der innere Anschlussdraht beschädigt ist hilft auch eine Wicklung abwickeln nicht, dann muss ein neuer Pickup her. Meiner Erfahrung nach lassen sich die Höhen auch mit einem guten Preamp ohne Nebengeräusche, und kontrollierter, boosten.

that's interesting and the change in tone sounds really beneficial to me. but I wonder to what extent this change in character couldn't be achieved just as well by simply throwing a preamp in and fiddling with eq... ? I guess boosting different freqs across different ranges is a plus tho

From the "US customary" measurement angle: If you are dealing with an aluminum harp support and have the original self-tapping screws, I found a 3/16" drill bit to be just the right size hole to allow the screws to cut threads the first time you screw them back in after drilling.

I own an ARP Pro Soloist and watched countless RUclips and other recordings of this v cool instrument. Ive never heard one sound as good or used as well as this.. Great work!

These are the songs and sounds only a real Rhodes can produce. The feel when playing on one of these beauties is so different from playing digital versions and sample players. When you dial in an effect and suddenly feel inspired to play a chord progression or melody from a song that has been in your ears for decades, and suddenly it is in your fingers, priceless. Congrats to your wonderful product, I am seriously considering upgrading my 1980 Mark 2 with that amp…
