Great intro and very well made video! but despite all the strange decisions RR has made the past few years. I still love the game. yeah the community sucks... but the game itself? i don't see it. If anything, i feel like the community has done more harm than the game itself... Toxicity, cash grab rooms, hackers, and overall negative feedback about the game with no real constructive criticism. theres alot i hate about the community. but in my opinion the game is fine... besides bugs & optimization. i don't see why everyone is bitching. Everyone is too busy complaining about the prices & stuff that they forgot the fact that ITS A FREE FUCKING GAME!!! but i digress. While quite a few opinions of yours are valid. i just don't see the game as "incompetent". if RR was "INCOMPETENCE AT ITS FINEST" it wouldn't be one of the top VR games. sorry for yapping but im tired of seeing this community dig its own grave.

Rec room was never good bro

This was an absolute delight to watch. Not sure if you have taken any film classes before, but you have some insane talent in content creation. If you love making these videos, pursue it with all you got. Not many people go to the lengths you do when it comes to content on RUclips anymore, please continue to make videos! I've been playing Rec Room since 2017, the amount of small details you mentioned that I have been thinking for years was so reassuring. Ex. The college campus theme, Gribbly's original songs, advertisements... Thanks for making such a great video!

Ive always loved playing the quest and fan made quests, but they refused to make a new rro quest using the bs excuse that they give us the tools to make our own, yet they dont even support that so none is incentivized to make their own.

I’ve been thinking this for a while I just couldn’t find the video now this pops up worth the watch cause I started playing in 2020 and when going back it just doesn’t feel the same the new more people like avatars and the way they got rid of weekly quests

i met 2 of my best friends on rec room back in 2022-2023 and to me (and not because of nostalgia) was the prime of rec room. Everyday when i got home i was excited to play with my friends and only recently i actually met up with them. Rec room has given me great memories and 2 friendships that will last forever its just a shame to see that the game has fallen to such a degree its so sad.

Every point this guy has made is 100% true and I support him. I believe Rec Room has become greedy with tokens and money that they don't focus on the players and the community. I just want Rec Room to go back to the way it was in 2016- early 2020, and most of the trans-actions to be removed or changed.

I remember when I first played this game, everything felt so special. There had never been anything like rec room before, even if the quest 1 graphics didn't look too good, the artstyle was charming anyways and the game ran okay, every rooms felt original and it was just fun Now on quest 3, the game has not improved graphic wise at all, a ton of rooms feel very similar/are the same, it is hard to find any original rooms, the charm is gone and playing the game is not fun due to the horrendous performance and bugs I can only hope they improve the problems that feel like they've been there since forever..

Music too loud

I tried the game recently, everything that made it endearing on quest 1 has been removed and replaced to clone vr chat, by doing that, they got rid of rec room, replaced by a worse version of vr chat

Me and my friends started to play rec room in early 2019 on console which eventually got us interested into car and by summer of 2019 we were playing rec room before the big vr boom full of annoying children and we loved the game until they did those invasion events and stopped playing due to the weekly’s being pretty much canceled which lost our interest Edit: just finished watching the video and the ending hit me in my feels, even though I stopped playing in,y 2 years ago I miss the fun and time a spent with my friends. No game could ever match rec room between 2019-2022

Ive been playing for 3 years and haven't spent a penny and i have 16 tokens right now and only wear free items 3 years of playing to be on the same level of a beginner

As someone who has played since September 2019, it is sad to see a game you cherished for so long crumple up to become a literal Roblox copy. With all these clickbait RRS games, it has taken the creativity and excitement out of the game that it once had. It is slowly removing people who regularly use the maker pen for their rooms from the scene and resorting them to Room contests and the Rec Room Gallery. While there are some advantages to using RRStudio, I don't ever imagine myself using it for rooms.

You make some really good points here, and "just do a different jam if it's too short" is a strong one. Personally, I think as long as it stays centered on a weekend (friday to monday) it's fine, as those extra hours can be helpful for people who just want a few extra hours to do finishing touches or just sleep a little bit longer in between working on their game for the jam. I don't really have any skin in the proverbial game though, as I know I'd never be able to finish anything in less than like a month lol

I wish I could have a fully experienced early rec room because I joined right before the changed everything. Too late to enjoy it and to early for the new stuff not to ruin my experience with this game, even though I’ve mainly played rec room through clans I’ve also been able to make friends and experience the other joy of it with them as well as get creative using the maker pen and other creations others have made I just can’t believe how far this game as fallen, Icarus flew to close to the sun and payed because of it

Joined in 2020, right before the shit show, and I finally left a year or 2 ago. I used to build and co-own maps and games. I wasn’t as good as others I knew, but I tried to make some kind of reputation through my games. I simply gave up after realizing someone who would just slap together a bunch of popular IP inventions and give their game a name that was flooded with search terms would always win over my work. Seeing this game is like visiting a relative with Alzheimer’s, it still loos the same, but what made it is far, far gone.

When i first joined i loved the fact that rec room had its own thing their college ascetic was so cool and i had never seen it done before everything everyone felt like it was really just a fun social game to play and play games but rec room is seriously losing itself to greed i check the shop in rec room and i see ninja turtles? And they cost like 35k tokens or something outrageous like that and i wished they built on the lore of college plays and activities they instead of making the fortune teller or roomiverse or whatever seems alot like roblox…

I found out about Rec Room a couple years ago, I believe fro ma mobile game ad? When I saw it I was like, "Oh, this looks like a better-looking version of Roblox. Might be neat to try out!" But didn't because, ya know, mobile game ad. I've had it on Steam for about a year now? Only tried to actually play it about a month and a half ago. As I'm making my avatar, I take not of how many Pride items there are, right out of the box. So naturally I dress my avatar in almost ONLY Pride items (if a game is gonna let me be flamboyant, I will!). Only took about ten minutes after entering the first Room that interested me to encounter what must have been a younger teen or older child repeatedly OHKOing me with some random massive sword going "eew, gay people" in the VC. I closed the game after about an hour and haven't touched it since.

I agree with everything you say I was juniored in rec room because some guy was being rude and cussing people out but when I said something to him I got banned its totally stupid

1:01:20 point still stands but friday night funkin is already not meant for kids in the first place (doesnt invalidate that point you made but i think it still shows a problem with kids being shown stuff they shouldnt be shown

I feel you dude. I played on psvr before you could even load custom instances of most rooms, and the old rec center. I watched the game grow and had a lot of fun and there were some sick maps. But then I got on pc and focused on vrchat and came back years later to find the mess the game had become. There was always brainrot trend chasing maps(hundreds of basic pvp maps flooded the map pool towards the end of my first stint), but it just felt so much worse. And as shallow as it is, fullbody avatars is one of my most disliked additions to the game. Just felt like a vessel for monetizing more cosmetics with pants and shoes. The armless legless look made rec room simple to understand and was part of its art style. Socialising feels harder than ever with the abundance of kids shouting some heinous stuff or just being a general nuisance, about the only thing that makes me want to get back on is the occasional play of stunt runner for the slickness

The part talking about creators really got me. I’m making tons of genuinely decent (a lil fun) games that get rid of any pay to win features that are passion projects. Back in 2020 I would probably be popular, but now in 2025 I’m not popular because only the rooms that are cash grabs or appeal to kids get featured.

animation at the end went INSANE, also really good video, i've wanted to return to rec room for a while because i remembered it being a very fun game back in like 2020-2021, but over time it felt like a completely different game that didnt even feel like rec room.

I’ve only played rec room causally every now and then for the past two years and found it awfully charming (and much better than vr chat). I never noticed these issues until they were pointing out to me, I really like how you structured the video and visually presented it! Also that ending is phenomenal it caught me so off guard 😭
