Day in the Life - CFSM Project
Join us for a day in the life of our researchers on the Conjunctive Freshwater Saltwater Management project!
Watch as our researchers spend the day in the field - collecting groundwater and surface water samples and data. This data will them be used in a new tool called SWAT-MODFLOW-SALT to evaluate scenarios of combining water sources with various levels of salinity and optimize blending strategies which prevent potential harm to soils, crops and water resources.
This project is still in developmental stages, so current efforts are in gathering data on the fluctuation of naturally occurring saline levels and other data points throughout the Red River Basin.

How close can sprinkles be to property lines? Thanks in advance
Here is the response from our expert: I am not aware of a specific provision in our Oklahoma Rules about the location of the sprinklers relative to the property line. What is important is that the effluent is applied on the property, or maybe sprayed to the direction of the owner’s property. The spray heads can be adjusted so that they will only spray to the direction of the owner’s property. If the effluent goes to a neighbor’s property, the neighbor can file a complaint at the local Oklahoma DEQ-Environmental Complaints and Local Services division. I would refer you to the Oklahoma DEQ because they recently implemented a new set of rules. I hope this helps.

Great video
How much larger is the tank?
Wonderful, pay to get your septic inspected every three months! Everywhere I turn, the law is making home ownership impossible using ignorant people as the excuse. Maintain your home, if you don't know how to check a pressure switch, move into a condo! Leave the rest of us alone!
Don't forget landlords with 80 page leases
280 gallons sounds crazy to me since im sure i produce less then 20 a day. wowza
Regarding what to do after a power outage. If the power is out for 12hrs, your sprinkler discharge timer will be affected accordingly. If you set your sprinklers to spray at midnight thru 5am, since the power was out 12hrs, your timer will set off the sprinklers from noon to 5pm. Not a pleasant experience for kids in the yard or homeowners mowing. So always check your timer to ensure it's set to the correct time of day, much like you would on your microwave and coffee maker.
Very informative explanation. Dr Abit explains the systems so well. I will follow this advices in rechecking our septic system at home.
So basically 3 separate tanks with air system in middle tank. Can i use a tank with baffles 2 section tank close to house, air pump for 2nd part of tank and 1 more tank after ? Or would 1 tank with baffle be ok with air system
But won't the chlorine kill the good bacteria found in the soil at the drip site that is needed to treat the effluent water being expelled? Like surrounding earthworms etc that would build better soil structure?
Very useful information. I’m not in Oklahoma but I have a couple questions if you still check comments
Hello Rosemary! Please email us your questions to water@okstate.edu and we can get them to our expert to reach back out to you!
Can you run this with a solar backup or portable generator in an emergency ?
Yea they have forced people to install these because they can charge more and the equipment is expensive
Great explanation!
I just bought a house in the country with this kind of system. I was so confused when I saw that I had a "sprinkler system" spraying out into a forest!! Now I'm laughing because I realize that it was the septic system. Thank you so much for helping me understand what is going on and how to maintain it. (I hadn't even considered what to do when we lose power!) :)
Happy to be of assistance Liz!
An outhouse is cheaper and less maintenance.
Sir, thank you very much. I live in my village and only have small area around my house. However the soil is too shallow, not more than 2.5 meters everywhere. Below that ground is extended limestone, white in color. My question is, is it recommended to dig further the limestone for a conventional septic tank? What would be any likely future impact (good or bad)? Your response would help in my adventure to do these things myself.
This is provably the most comprehensive video you can find about septic systems used in the USA. I am a professional civil engineer and PhD brushing up on my education, and I have to say that Dr Abit is an excellent presenter, the presentation is well thought out, and this is how community education at it's best. Thanks to Dr Abit and the faculty and staff at OHU Water Center!
We're glad you found this helpful!
Good job!
Great video. Thank you for this!
Glad you found it helpful!
Awesome video. We just a pressurized system installed. It costed us $26.000 ..this is in South Jersey
Good video 👌👍
Thanks for watching!
a great Thanks
Why not just put bacteria ruclips.net/video/dHAREQxSm7g/видео.html from the bottom of the ocean or the bacteria from our salty boggy marshes that breakdown and consume organic matter and convert it into electrical current as long as you use a non-conductive septic tank and then put a superconductive coating on a conductive Rod or strip of metal on each end of the septic tank to receive electrical current discharge from bacteria to power your house or charge an EV vehicle.
Thank you for this. I would like to offer some insite from a city girl who is building a homestead (my husband refuses to call it a farm,, he says that's what city folks say) in South Central Oklahoma. I'm on here watching videos, trying to wrap my head around the whole process. Verbally, I think he does a fantastic job of explaining it. I would have loved it if he were Showing us which system is which. If he could, say flush a toilet and show us what went where. Or at the very least walk along beside each system explaining the process as he goes. I would have gained SO much more knowledge that way. Thank you. God Bless #OkiesAreTheBest
thanks docter for you interested leacture;i love extreamly it
Thanks for watching!
Im 15 and I'm getting very interested in hydrology, this video helped and covered a lot. Thank you
Thanks for watching!
How to become hydrogeology is there any certificate of hydrogeologist Or ground water exploration
Hi Muddasir! We love to see your interest in groundwater work. To become a hydrogeologist, you typically need a four-year degree. There are numerous field options that involve groundwater exploration, such as environmental scientists/engineers, hydrologists, groundwater specialists, etc. Oklahoma State University offers many of these options - we highly suggest looking into it!

Good information
Thank you sir for all these informations.
Cool
Thanks, Doc! Awesome video on septic tank maintenance. I'm getting ready to build a house with a septic system in Northeast North Carolina. I have never had a septic system and know nothing about them. Everyone with a septic system needs to watch this video and learn from Dr. Abit.
We're glad you found this video helpful!
I studied Ground Water engineering in My Master degree in Hydraulics & Water Resources during 1983. Those day a book by Todd is a popular one .
Great content!👍
Thank you for this video... This will help me greatly understand the subject.
You are so welcome, and we're glad to hear it! :)
Very good video
nice lecture sir i want to geologist what shoud i do
Thank you for sharing this video Sergio! Very informative 👏🏻
Groundwater Exploration Service Provider -----> www.vmftechnology.com
Sir I want to work with an idea of artifically create an aquafir in the mountain areas where there is mostly metamorphiic and igneous rocks (sub himalaiyan region) some part of kashmir pakistan. Because of issues of drinkable water not available for people. Due to population spring water is not sufficient for future need. Could you suggest me something regarding this?
Aw i wish to go to colorado state. i have family there but in my state, expectations are low and teachers dont put effort so my gpa is trash :/ at least i can get in the university here but i really wanted to pursue bachelors in colorado. Atbleast now i know i can do masters there.
Thanks for sharing this lecture, I enjoyed learning from it 👍
good lecture sir
thanks so much for the video. sir what is the current approach used to determine ground water occurrence?
Need more lectures from you sir
well explained. After studying hydrology, According to you what can be the predicted area that needs ground water to balance recharge and discharge?
Thanks for viewing and your interest. Can you clarify your question?
Thank you Dear for your presentation
Hae, can you do a video on the effect of produced water on surface water
Great Lecture :) QC
