Just some fun vids of my various (mis)adventures, mostly consisting of mountaineering, diving, kayaking, long distance cycling, camping and 'bothying', campervaning and general travel. Also a spattering of music consisting of me making all sorts of noises with a guitar, piano, mandolin, harmonica and my voice (should probably carry a government health warning).
No political statements, no religious views, no personal philosophy and no attempt to right all the wrongs of society. Simply a diary of my trips that will hopefully give some inspiration to others to get out and enjoy the sheer magic of Mother Nature in her various shapes and forms.

If anyone fancies a laugh, turn subtitles on for this vid...😂...either it's not designed for Scottish accents or I seriously need elocution lessons! Or both!! 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

I previously uploaded this around 18 months ago but for some reason, I have just been hit with a copyright claim. I tried to sort this out, but somehow managed to lose half of the video, so here we are again. The landscape here is legendary, but even by Scottish Highland standards, this area is very special, remote and unspoilt for thousands of years. A true Paradise! And there were NO midges!

A wee look at packing a kayak for multi-day camping trip. We decided to wait for the tide coming in a bit before launching our kayaks - to make it easier - so with time to spare, I decided to make a wee video of packing the kayaks for a couple of nights wild camping, in this case, in a bothy. "What gear do you take?" is a question I have been asked many times, most commonly regarding mountainee...

Sea Kayaking, all 4 Seasons in a day! Lochs Goil & Long, Argyll Forest Park, Scotland
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.2 года назад
From dead flat calm and sunny to storms, we had it all in the one day on Lochs Goil and Long. In fact, we had it all week, as we paddled on three different days. Footage here is from two of the days. The weather forecast was not at all good, but these lochs tend to be well sheltered from the worst of the weather, where they were, 'some' of the time! They're always a good option when everything ...

The bad weather forecast was thankfully, way out, as what was meant to be overcast, dull and windy turned out to be warm, sunny and calm, for most of the day. So, glorious weather, a beautiful location and fabulous wildlife all made for a 'classic' trip! I'm doing 300,000 steps challenge this month for RNLI - a very worthy cause to all kayakers and seafarers - so if anyone would like to donate,...

Kayaking, capsize rescue, River Spey - Boat o Brig to Spey Bay, the final leg in inflatables
Просмотров 6732 года назад
The Spey water level is still very low after a 'drought' of a summer, by Highland standards and although it has rained all week with heavy rain the night before we went out, this led to very fast water run off from the Cairngorm mountains, but the water level remains low. So a combination of fast current, numerous obstacles - most notably trees and boulders - and the water barely covering bould...

Hi, where did you leave your car? Can’t find anywhere to park for multiple days. Thank you
Question... how do get the Neil Young soundtrack? I'd love to be able to add something similar to my videos.
L 'Écosse sous le Soleil, quelle merveille ,et belle musique en accord avec le calme du loch .❤
Great filming, music and commentary 👍👍👍 Thanks for sharing❤
Thank you, really enjoyed that. Could you provide the location where you launched from please. OS Grid reference would be brilliant. Thanks, John
Hi, Which is the best for light paddler 65 kg, stratos s or p&h virgo? Thanks
Flying fish and sea turtles are mostly seen in Taiwan. The fur seal's head is so cute. It's a mermaid?
What a wonderful video! Never visited Loch Morar but i am determined to. The weather you had was absolutely stunning. Hope you didn’t get eaten alive by the midges though!
I do a bit of coast hopping on the Kayak too, you boys should try loch Caolisport. If you launch from St Columbus cave and hug the north shore you will find 3 or 4 sheltered white sand lagoon beaches, beautiful when there no covered in cow muck 😆.
What make of Kayak are you using. Thinking of buying an inflatable kayak to sail from kinlochourn to Barrisdale bay .
Fantastic. And no I don’t believe there is…
You look and sound like Billy Connelly. How do you like your blow up Kayak and how does it perform?
Ha! Cheers for that... I think! :) Love all my kayaks mate, Great fun!!
Sorry, meant to add they come with there own pump.
Lovely place there 👌 looks so like you had a good paddle out there 👍 brilliant
Thanks mate. Highly recommended if you haven't already done it. Beautiful remote area, loads of islands to explore and lots of wildlife. A bit out of the way, but worth the effort.
lovely video very lucky with weather and dolphins
Spot on! One of those rare occasions where everything is perfect and conditions greatly exceeded the forecasts. Thanks for the comment. :)
Nice video - that sun set - LUSH! Thanks!
Thanks mate. :)
At the end , the Golden hour, amazing. Ty.
Absolutely that! Thanks mate.
You guys are hard-core. Cracking shot of the rainbow 🌈 👌
Cheers Steve. It was cold, but the light coming through the ominous sky made great conditions for filming.
Cracking video 👍😎
Cheers John. Your skippers knowledge would be extremely useful in this game! :) Hope you're well mate!
Interesting to see Ice on Loch Fyne sea loch. Wonder if the Ice was because of less dense fresh water from the river lying on top of the denser salt water ? Well done for the "Ice Breaker" kayaking. Take care.
It could well be fresh water, run-off from the hills. I've dived many times around Lochs Long/Fyne and there is often fresh water, sometimes several feet of it, on top of the salt water. Thanks you for the comments.
Nice content but will watch a few more
Thank you.
Stunning, what a fantastic place Loch Etive is. Another gud'n guy's 👍
Cheers Steve! :)
What's the dagger like as a sea kayak??
Suits my needs perfectly. A good balance between speed an stability, handles great, very comfortable seat, plenty storage for multi-day trips and capable of taking a right battering in rocks gardens, surf or just being dragged up and down rocky shores. If I needed a new one, it would be a dagger.
@@slugmctut7577 sounds the job. I currently have a wilderness tsunami160 and it's a great stable sea kayak but I bit awkward for turning...edging... even to lift it on to the van.... it's a great boat to make you feel safe and very stable plus you can take a weeks shopping in it 😀.... I did my L2 in a dagger but that in the safety of calm lake from what I remember there a bit lively and more manovable than what I have now as my boat has very little rocker . I may consider moving on the wilderness for a dagger . I'd like to try one first for a 15-20 km paddle to see how it feels but thanks for reply
@@82HEADCASE If you're Scottish based, I know Tiso hire out Dagger Stratos kayaks - or did - in their Edinburgh, Perth and Inverness stores and probably the others I'd have thought, with advanced notice. I think they're around 30-40 quid/day, but if you buy, you get that money back. Incidentally, they were built for edging and very maneuverable.
@@slugmctut7577 cheers for the info and the video. Il get my hands on one to try soon and see if it suits me . Thanks agen

I enjoy all your videos but this one was especially stunning. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Ryan. :)
Do you wear wetsuit or a dry suit when kayaking in Scottish rivers and reservoirs.
In the sea, always a dry suit. Rivers in winter, normally dry suit or semi dry suit. Inland lochs/reservoirs, etc. depends how large it is (if we're likely to be a long distance from shore) and how cold it is. Hot, summer day near the shoreline, wetsuit at most, sub-zero winter conditions, dry suit. Anything in between, somewhere between the two.
Stunning and some great footage, guys. You surely are blessed with the best boating area in the UK. ATB, Steve .
It's endless up here mate... you should explore it! :)
Well, you guys sure know how to party 🥳. Just about to click on part 3
HAhaha.... somebody left a guitar for us! Whisky did the rest! :)
That looks fun chain's ⛓️ look new, too .Good quality marine grade stainless steel.
It's good fun mate, so long as you don't have a fear of heights.
Another gud'n guy's, but then again you never make a bad one. Cracking weather you had, too. Merry Christmas, Steve.
Cheers Steve, and a merry Christmas to you and yours mate!
@Slug McTut. I am padding from the White cart into the Clyde. Do you know of any Good flatish rivers I can get to ?
Sounds an interesting route! Let me know how you get on, or do a gopro vid? The river Balvaig is good, some minor rapids bot nothing too brutal. You can get in by the bridge at Balquhidder - car parking for a few cars - and come out at Loch Lubnaig where there are numerous car parks. It can be a bit shallow at times, but I should think it will be okay just now. There are also some calm bits of the Spey - fabulous river - but there are also more serious sections. Let me know if you want more info on it.
@@slugmctut7577 I put my kayak on a wee trolley an drag it to the cart. Just before it joins the Clyde. So my starting point is the White Cart. Thought about paddling up to the Leven to the Lomond. Any advice,
@@hapymushroom Probably best do it the other way, Balloch to the Clyde, I'd have thought? It may be possible to do it the other way, but it'll be harder work! Care required on the Clyde too, especially around that bit as a lot of it dries out at low tide, so best get the tides right. I think it's fairly busy with traffic too.

I envy you guys, kayaking certainly opens up a whole new world of nature. Just now looking on the map for your exact trip locations. One day I'll be there !
Thanks mate. Mind and open your own RUclips channel so we can share in your adventures!
This is absolutely stunning guys, pure nature, pure wild. It looks like there's never been human inhabitants before. I'd love to do such a trip but I think I'll need to build up my confidence first before such open sea adventures. Beautiful guys, thanks for sharing.
Thanks T Man. You can start on flat, calm inland lochs in good weather and progress from there. Easy rivers with no rapids, onto grade 1 rapids, etc. There are plenty of great routes! The sea requires a bit more knowledge regarding tides/currents/swells etc. and how weather - primarily wind - effects them and much more safety concerns. Once again, start on easy, sheltered sea lochs, such as Loch Etive (the inland end) or from Arrocher on Loch Long and work up from there. The more routes you get in, the faster you'll be out in open sea. If you need any info on anything to do with kayaking, get in touch. It's a great life mate!
@@slugmctut7577 Fantastic information yet again & yes I will do that. Thanks so much
At 4:47 kinda looks like yer padding uphill to the horizon.
Haha... Aye, I see what you mean. Never experienced so many mirages/optical illusions in a kayak before. It was getting a bit freaky, with floating islands and disappearing ships!
Absolutely stunning location & scenery, nature at it's finest, thanks for sharing. Do you know of any kayaking groups in Scotland that do days & overnight Kayak trips? I'd love to travel up from near Manchester & join in the adventures with like minded others, possibly Loch Lomond first. Any
Many thanks for the comments T Man. Aye, the Highlands are great for scenery and wildlife. Probably your best option would be the "Song of the Paddle" forum. They've got a Facebook page but their internet website is better for meeting up with others and planning trips. They're by far the biggest canoeing/kayaking forum in UK with members from all over. There'll undoubtedly be canoe/kayak clubs around Manchester area too. I know of one local club up here but it's mostly whitewater stuff. Hope that helps?
@@slugmctut7577 That's a great help, thank you so much. I'm just watching your video for the second time. Stunning 😀
@@tman5634 Thanks mate. If you want any more info, give me a shout.

@@slugmctut7577 Amazing place, thanks for sharing. As a relative beginner to Kayaking, could you recommend anywhere on Loch Lomond to park up, launch from & kayak to, please? My kayak is a good quality & stable inflatable. Thank you
@@tman5634 Thank you for the comments T Man. You can gain easy access to Lomond via Milarrochy Bay car park on the east side of the loch, Balloch at the southern end and on the west side, I think Inveruglas, Tarbet and Luss are access points and probably others, although I have never actually launched from the west side. Millarochy Bay is a great access point and probably the most interesting as it's easy to reach (and explore) many of the islands. Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Another gud'n thanks guy's, much better than watching the crap on TV 📺
Ha! :) Thanks mate.
My new dry suit has been in a post-office for over a month now, no saying I'm a wee bit jealous , but I'm getting there. Canny wait to get back on the water. Ps. Nice vid.
Ha! Hopefully you'll get it before things get too serious! :) Thanks mate.
Great video guys, what inflatables were you using.
Thanks Mal. Colin's is an Itiwit 1 and mine is a Sea Eagle Explorer 300x.
Loved the comments "the left looks safer, let's take the right" and "frights per mile". Good reading of the river and anticipation of hazards. Even on an "easy", very familiar river/route things can go tits up really, really quickly. Even on the canal. Great vid.
:) Thanks mate. I agree with every word (how fast it can all go pear shaped). We included most of the rescue/recovery to show this, how simply swimming straight to the bank often is not possible, and the advantages of a dry suit when you're in the cold water for nearly 8 minutes. Add to that his head collided with several rocks when he capsized, it was a good idea to be wearing the helmet. :)
@@slugmctut7577 oh I hadn't realised he'd whacked his heed underwater! God aye it can go wrong so quickly. Folk/the unwary get caught out aw the time when it's a roasting bank holiday etc. Let's go doon that in a barrel, it'll be a right laugh...
@@liammalarky3483 Absolutely. It can get complicated really quickly. The hazards aren't always that obvious.
Skye is an awesome island and you certainly had some great kayaking weather.
