The ATC audio begins at 1:41, with AA12 lining up on rwy 1R This video was mainly intended as a test of my new Sony SLT-a55 and 55-200mm lens. It was shot on the morning of January 7, 2011 from the Baylands park adjacent to the airport. Edited on iMovie. The American Airlines plane bearing special livery, which on that day was American Flight 12 (SFO-JFK), is N320AA, a 767-223. The plane featur...

2001 NTC San Diego Walking Tour

In January of 2001, I took a walk around the former Naval Training Center in San Diego. At the time the base had been handed over to the City of San Diego for a variety of uses and tenants. Construction on "Liberty Station" was a few years off. At the time, I hadn't really developed and filmmaking skills, and really had no intention of sharing the video, so my technique leaves much to be desire...

This trip, took us from our home in Fairfax County Virginia to San Francisco, California. The video starts near our home, then picks up crossing the Maryland / Pennsylvania state line on I-70 which later joins with I-76. We eventually hooked up with I-80 in Ohio. After a brief trip into Chicago, we were back on I-80 all the way to Ogallala, Nebraska, where we took I-76 to Denver for a brief vis...

In 2001, we moved from San Diego to New York City. We arrived in NYC on 8/22/01, and were able to see the World Trade Center towers miles away in New Jersey as we got closer. We made the trip by traveling in a rented Volvo along the following route: we started in the Mission Valley area of San Diego, traveling north briefly on CA-163, merging with I-15. In Utah, we joined I-70 east and drove to...

good old days for flying 👍
Hello from Aug 2024!! N657UA (the aircraft being flown in this video) is currently still in service, (flying LHR-EWR at the time of this comment). That makes it more than 23 years old at the very least!
that video is older that me😮 (i'm 14)
I did my Boot and BEEP there. Nov '79 - 80.
Was at NTC for Radioman 'A' School from March 1996 to August 1996 (was one of the last graduating classes). Have great memories of the base. I definitely did not like going from SD to Norfolk. It was a completely different atmosphere.
its not N612UA we dont no what it is but the 727 and 757 and 767 reminds me and i remeber
Times have really changed. This Business class product is more akin to what you’d get in premium economy now.

I wonder what’s the meal they give you.
Jan. 1976 co. 905. So sad to see it like this.
Aaaaw I still remember those times. I used to travel a lot between New York City and Frankfurt from 2000 to 2002. Incredible! I want those times before 9/11 back.
Graduated dec.63 cc was SFC ROSENBLAT, Lost my copy of the anchor, company 415.please help😢
UA’s catering for business class was always really awful even back then - every course just thrown on a tray without care instead of being served course by course. This is when UA really started to lose the business class customer to the other airlines especially Delta and Continental who not only had larger seats, but offered a much more refined product in business class.
United 175
the fact that theres a American Airline flying under them is such a strange foreshadowing to 9/11. On the morning of that day united airlines flight 175 spotted American 11 when that plane got highjacked. the pilot explains that he heard the message that atta mistakenly said in the intercom.then after that message 175 got hijacked.
No, it's not. You're grief porn trippin.
damn this is a literal time capsule
Great content. Sad that the future fleet of United won’t be this entertaining Iike in this video. Awesome footage!!!
My time in Boot was Jan 1966. The CC was a disaster. He thought it was his job to embarrass and humiliate the recruits as much as possible. He promist me Recuit Commander but gave me nothing except to clean dirty pans in the galley. After Boot of 13 weeks, I went on to work in three Admiral Commands. I had a lot of fun in the Navy after my miserable experience with that awful CC, who was a Ist Class ship's plumber. I would like to forget him.
Great video!
Company 025 - Apr 1992 to late June 1992. Captain Southgate was RTC CO. Fond memories and good times. This place closed permanently for recruits in 1995. Dilapidated buildings and decay. We went on vacation to SD a few months ago. Navy housing, buildings, strikes, the whole nine yards now.
I miss the old navy style paint job that united airlines used to have.
I don't, they're a constant reminder of 9/11
Back when airports had a wider variety of airlines and a greater route network
I Loved the Old American and United Livires
RIP… SEP 11 .. United crews
Wish I was old enough to truly experience it. But at least I got to see Ohare when I went job training around 2016. I quite liked it still.
old Us'a 911 livery. I was so glad when they got rid of that drab livery. I always thought it must have been difficult to see in the fog. Nice shot of the AA flight.
3 months before 9/11 ..
1:39 That flight number hasn't changed at all in 21 years. Even in 2022, UAL958 is still an ORD-LHR flight with a 767-300ER.
Went there for Basic Training and Basic Electricity and Electronic school.
Y’all know the day this video was taken, CupcakKe, a famous Chicago rapper, turned 4 years old the exact day this video was taken. She’s a good singer😭😍‼️
Back when anyone could walk in and out of the terminals. Regardless if you had a plane ticket or not. You used to be able to go meet your family members right at the gate when they stepped off the plane.
God I miss the old days - also love the Transatlantic AA Airbus A300-600 at the end of the video. I'll bet that was coming in from EWR.
Nice went thru there 10 years before video 1991 Feb-apr company 107
1:54 Here we see the airplane and the tail number N657UA is very visible as we can see. I searched up this aircraft and found records of it. It had this livery most of its career, at least in the early years. The planes first flight was on October 2, 1993 and the plane looks like a Boeing 767 or 777. Believe it or not, despite changing over many liveries and getting to an age of 29, this plane is still in service today! By the way I don’t think this is the plane the guy goes on but just a random plane I saw in the vid and it’s still flying!
It’s a 767… yuck
@@MaulinAgrawal1217 And why is 767 yuck?
I was there for boot camp & A school in 89'-90'. I had great times there, and San Diego was a totally crazy city in those days. Nothing but good memories & friends.
Was there nov 68-march 69. One of my barracks had landing lights on the roof for the aircraft landing at Lindberg Field. At night the planes landing lights would light up our barracks when they were landing from the north. When they hit reverse thrust it was very loud. Good times Iam glad I was in the Navy then and not with all the BS going on in the military today.
Discovery Kids
Thanks for posting this. I remember my time at NTC San Diego for Mess Management A School during the summer of 1992. Had some fun times while there going out on the weekends. Going to Mission Beach, the zoo, Horton Plaza, but mostly riding the trolly down to Tijuana.
I was there in 1989, company 182.
United Airlines O’Hare B767 Gate C17 Runway 14L/32R
Thanks for this video! I did boot there in 1965 as Company 489-65. Agreed with Don Clark, below. I will never understand why our Navy closed things down there, and especially given its proximity to everything Pacific Fleet. My last barracks now houses Trader Joe's. Who would have thunk it? The audio catches the reality of doing outside training there. We were always straining our ears to hear the instructors, when departing or arriving aircraft were overhead. For me, I simply cannot comprehend I was there 56 years ago. It was a 4.0 base and the Navy is less with it now permanently closed but, at least, the city fathers had the foresight to preserve all the unique architecture and that is still echoed at the adjacent and currently active Marine Corps Recruit Depot.
Awesome....
Insane footage. So cool to see how much has changed in 20 years yet how normal everything seems in the video. Awesome catches of the UA 727s and 737-200. The American A300 is cool too, I didn’t think those were ever used transatlantic
Nice video. I was there January March 1960. They must of tore down the old barracks.
I love that takeoff noise! The cabin noise sounds like the Concorde's cabin noise but lower in pitch.
I love that United 747
Wow, I miss Battleship Grey UA crazy how I remember flying in these planes before And After the Tragedy:( But Let Us Not Forget the Beauty of Flight in itself
If my parents and I could have flown on the Boeing 767.
What year was this?
