2024 Day 12 : Big birthday rainbow trout on a late fall day
We went to one of my go to lakes for big fish. It also happens to be my birthday as well and my wife joined me for a great day together. We primarily used blobs under an indicator and managed quite a few fish. No real secret techniques but a few key fly patterns and big fish showed up. Enjoy the video it was fun to make it.

2024 Day 11 : Late Fall fishing for Rainbow Trout on Stump Lake
Просмотров 55021 день назад
Late fall fishing can be difficult due to lack of hatches and weather. It is also difficult to pinpoint patterns that will work consistently. I have a growing confidence in blob patterns in the fall when nothing seems to be happening. So here is another episode of fish eating blobs.

2024 Day 10: Late Summer Big Trout using Livescope
Просмотров 4382 месяца назад
Late summer day and I didn't expect too much from the day as I haven't been to this lake since last year. It didn't take long to dial in the fish using my Garmin Livescope. It was easy to see what depth and location these fish were feeding in. We caught some big rainbow trout and lots of them here in the Okanagan.

So this was in the midst of the hot spell down in Kelowna so I decided to head up the connector to find some fish. I ended up fishing a lake where I knew I would see sedges and hoped that I could get one on a day fly. Water temps were in the high 60's F and the fish weren't too keen on the top water presentation, but they did want a nymph variation to chomp on. Enjoy the video!

Camping and Fishing at Sheridan Lake June 2024
Просмотров 4485 месяцев назад
This is our annual family camping trip to the Cariboo. We stay at Piney Point Resort on Sheridan Lake. Weather was the biggest factor as we spent quite a few days in the trailer due to rain and high winds but managed to get fishing a couple of times. Fishing on Sheridan was difficult as the weather really turned the fish off. It was still a great time being on the water and just camping overall.
2024 Day 6: Putting in work to find and catch Rainbow trout after a cold front.
Просмотров 4665 месяцев назад
Fishing at the top of the Okanagan Connector in a notoriously difficult lake. Things look so promising first thing in the morning with fish jumping everywhere. I managed to catch a few fish by searching and being persistent. Success was found using chironomids and booby patterns.

Просмотров 1,5 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Coming back to this lake is like visiting an old friend. I was lucky enough to have it all to myself and I had THE day so far this spring. Many fish were caught on chironomids during a great hatch. Key was being patient and following the adult chironomids to where they were emerging and then just getting the flies wet...Part 1 because there were so many fish!

    Thanks for video. Rafts look pretty cool, but I am traditional Tooner. Basically, because hands free fishing is key. I use my fins on all rivers in the head of pools in the eddies. Then I cast 12' 5wt Orvis Mission Scandi or Skagit style. No overhead casting. Effortless 70,' casts if needed. Colorado XT $750 toon. Long rods and spey are perfect match. I rarely stand to cast. Your head will explode if you drift and spey. A toon is a perfect step to Drift boat guiding. You can practice reading river and using all strokes, including crawl stroke. Good Luck. Not affiliated. Looks like one guy had longer rods. Do rafts track as well as toons? I find it Hard to swing big streamers with overhead cast. Bigger fly, bigger fish. Anyways thanks again. Hope to see more. Maybe you could film others casting.

    The Columbia river is such a crazy river, I live in Castlegar and I’ve hooked into many big Sturgeon. The biggest one I’ve landed was about 6 feet and I hook the ones that snap my hooks or bend them straight out all the time but a few months ago me and my dad were fishing and a sturgeon slurp up my bait and I kid you not a 500 pound 10 foot sturgeon jumped out of the water and bend my hooks right in half

    Hey what would you suggest as the best all round fly rod and reel for trout fishing in our BC lakes?

    • @bobtistaoutdoors
      @bobtistaoutdoors 2 месяца назад

      For 1 rod to do everything I would recommend a 9.5ft 5wt fly rod. It would be good for indicators and sinking line. The specific rod would depend on your budget really. There are a lot of good companies out there that make a rod in this length. Reel wise, I believe that you get what you pay for if you can budget $200-400 you definelty get something really nice with a good drag system. I can get specific if you told me your overall budget.

    Great stuff again, Bob! I really look forward to these videos coming out and I'm picking up lots of info. I fished this lake twice this week (June 24 and 26) with some mixed results. Chronny hatches were insane both days but the fish were gorging on leeches and adult mayflies on the surface as well. Can you expand a bit on your set up when you were stripping with the booby? I've only been fishing them under an indicator but I'm interested in that method as I've heard it talked about a few times now.

    • @bobtistaoutdoors
      @bobtistaoutdoors 5 месяцев назад

      Absolutely. I use the Rio fathom WF6S7 and about a 5 foot leader of 8lb seaguar Tatsu fluorocarbon. I cast it out then strip out about 10ft of line and just let it sink for as long to get it to the bottom and just strip back with usually short 6-8 inch strips until it comes back. I always try to incorporate pauses randomly as well
