    I have a 04 ranger 500 2x4I rebuilt mine everything looked good put it in my machine I've got low neutral and reverse but my high gear almost seems like the clutch dog is not engaging it clicks but when I spin the clutch backwards it locks into gear

    • @jerryjones2215
      @jerryjones2215 8 месяцев назад

      Yeah, sounds like worn dogs. All the wear is typically on the load side. Thats why it engages when you spin it backwards because that side of the dogs probably still look like new.

      @@jerryjones2215 so you think it's the clutch dog and not the shifting forks

    Thank you for sharing! I"m about to have to tear into mine as it didn't have fluid in it and there is no telling how much damage is done in there. It's locked up though the guy said it was serviced.

    How do you change the Silent Chain on reverse. I can't get it in the right position to get off the chain.

  • @TM-jx9xn
    @TM-jx9xn 8 лет назад

    This video is wrong. The gear sector needs to align in a precise manner per index marks which you did not cover. I followed your reassembly video 3 times and the transmission would not shift at all You should remove this video.

    no problem brother its just a heads up to see if you could have gone over it again

  • @jerryjones2215
    @jerryjones2215 8 лет назад

    It's not a "transfer case", although it is pretty similar. It's the transmission out of a Polaris Ranger.

  • @johnbelloso8078
    @johnbelloso8078 8 лет назад

    you talk about the slots on the shafts and gears but you didn't cover the alignment between the first two gears which is the most important part of assembly followed by the way the gears position and face..

      Sorry man. I'm not a professional mechanic and don't consider myself an "authority" on trannys. I just posted it for some of my PRC forum friends in hopes that it might be helpful to them.

      I think that I realized what you are referring to and went back and covered the gear position better at the end of video #5.

    Hey sir, I am interested in seeing the rest of the video and information. Why did you rebuild it? High pitch whine? Let me know if you have more video, thanks. I have a 07 ranger with this transmission and it makes a lot of noise...

    • @jerryjones2215
      @jerryjones2215 8 лет назад

      I have rebuilt them (mine and others) for various reasons. Sometimes the chain stretches and starts skipping or the tranny completely stops functioning. They are inherently loud and "some" whine is normal and can't be eliminated. But if you have noticed that it is getting louder, then the pinion bearing might be about to fail.

      i have a 07 as well. we shipped from the states to the bahamas and the poor polaris attended a hurricane in oct. i think it has water damage... but no one works on polaris on the islands so i am curious how to rebuild as well. we changed out the belt but it is still not working, and squeals once you remove everything what re you adding to rebuild? I would need to take all new parts needed to rebuild? did you add new parts or just clean the old ones? lmarsh2926@aol.com

    Do you know if the rebuild of a 2010 Polaris Ranger Crew is about the same as this ? Is this somethingI can tackle at home ?

    • @jerryjones2215
      @jerryjones2215 8 лет назад

      The 2010 is COMPLETELY different. It has a tranny and rear diff that are one piece, and has completely different internals, so unfortunately these videos will not be helpful.

    Hi Jerry, I rebuilt my transmission but when I shift into high gear it won't engage. it looks like the upper shift fork is about a 1/8 inch from engaging. could there be enough wear in the shift drum groove or shift fork dowel to not raise the fork high enough? thanks

    • @jerryjones2215
      @jerryjones2215 8 лет назад

      Sorry for the delayed response but I don't get on here much. That's difficult to answer without seeing it, but I have never seen a shift drum worn to the point that it malfunctioned.

    Thank you Jerry, great video. I've got a lot of mechanical experience, but none with my Ranger and I am appreciative of your attention to detail. I was wondering about the few number of views and comments, but my Ranger has been damn near bullet-proof till the high gear engagement issue, and your video helped me a lot. Great job!!

    Do you have a video on how to get the trans out

    • @jerryjones2215
      @jerryjones2215 8 лет назад

      Sorry, but I don't. I figured that if you were advanced enough to watch this part, you could probably figure out how to remove it.

    • @jerryjones2215
      @jerryjones2215 8 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately not. I figured that if somebody felt confident enough to tackle rebuilding the trans, then removing it "should" be a piece of cake for them.
