That's also the same in Denmark!
Yes it seems to be worldwide... well I suppose before the motor car the horse was king
I love telling people what the black diamonds are for not very many people know. Good on you
Thanks... the amount of controversy over those black diamonds... this my most viewed short ....any tips for another little known gem 😉
These are NOW AVAILABLE on Etsy, and they are currently on sale! Link in the description if you are interested!
Hope you enjoyed my video it was fun to make 😊
Tis known
Tis indeed 🤣
Also stops the devil from sitting on it 🇮🇪
Depends on the the size of the Devil....a wee devil 😈 or a big devil 😮
Really lovely. Thank you.
@debbieevans4934 you're welcome glad you enjoyed the video and if you want to buy one there on my new Etsy shop 🤩 thanks for watching
I knew what it was for, but in 25 years of building have never used it and probably never will
@@175lieutennant2 that makes two of us lol
Sir if your son enters the trades his bosses will be in your debt. I can't believe how many people i hire count lines. Or want an idiot tape
@@fkantifa well thank you... don't be afraid to ask if you don't know something
Seen this guy on Ted Lasso
Selling you less lumber for more money saving the environment
This is the kind of information i like to know as a young man in the trades
@@Patatopatado well good luck on your journey and never let your standards drop 👍
Least we use mm and cm now 🎉🎉🎉
What a clever solution to a problem you only have because you measure stuff in body parts.
Cheap crap. Floppy walls. Unstable. Quality versus minimal savings. Lazy work.
"Saving the environment" You're using the same amount of wood, just cutting less.
@@kmerathaetra 5 is less than 6 still... isn't it
I
Should be asking. "What are these numbers on the other side of the tape?" "Well son, that's metric, your son will use that one day like the rest of the world"
They are for engineered i-joists that have a 3 1/2 top plate allowing for the wider center.
Wood is good for the environment, it’s sustainable, and plentiful. The idea that using less helps is ridiculous.
I’ve got 114-year-old house and I’m lucky to find two studs that are exactly 19 1/4 apart. Of course, all the studs are true two by fours which I think are oak which are probably old growth oak.
@@frank3067 well the 19 3/16 spacing was introduced in the 1960s so you're house should have 16 inch spacings 👍
@@LowMaintenanceWoodWorkssorry to tell you but the older houses in the Midwest USA was 19.2 spacing.
The black diamonds are also a quick way to go through and mark 16 on center if the diamonds are on intervals of 16, because that's one of two typically accepted code for framing stud measurements in the u.s. the other is 24 on center.
@@zachwhyte6040 same here in Ireland and our tapes also have the metric system as well as the imperial system on them so the top half of the blade is imperial and the bottom half is metric. 16" is 400mm and 24" is 600mm etc
Black Diamonds!, for Liliths hand in marrige, OBVIOUSLY!! 😉😂
For Canadians.
The diamonds are older than plywood. The spacing was for lath and plaster studs.
@@shermanhofacker4428 I'm afraid your wrong plywood outdates the black diamonds by half a century or more
All you need is a jigsaw and a drill .... super easy to make and it could be the first of a kind I haven't come across any other Christmas tree sconces... the idea just came to me after making other traditional sconces ...
The 16 on center is for structure. You can't just change it. Never use the internet to learn how to build a house.
@@davidmason6620 the American wood council introduced it for engineered joists in the 1960s
They also call if fireman killer spacing. You save like 3 joists a house just pet em at 16
I have seen a lot of variations on wooden Christmas trees and a lot of variations on sconces/ candle holders but I hadn't come across a Christmas tree sconce....so I thought lets make one... let me know if there is other Christmas tree sconces 🌲🌲🌲
When I did building I always did 16” center. More studs and trusses= sturdier build.
These are for TJI'S brought in by the American wood council 👌
Great idea 👍
One of the worst possible layout methods ever
Not according to the American wood council
Rectangles are squares
Squares are rectangles but rectangles are more than a square 😮
It s called a cubit
Haha, close! A cubit might have been handy in ancient Egypt, but these black diamonds are all about modern-day framing.
The original was a cubit. Just because someone else found a more modern way to make the math work and call it something else doesn't mean the original answer is not correct
As the laughter came, dad was proud. He has taught you well.
@@jakovbrizic your never too old to learn 😊
It's not *_a square_* but it is *_square_* 😅
@@JosephDalrymple actually a square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not a square 🤔
@LowMaintenanceWoodWorks Exactly! It's not "a square" because it's not equilateral. But it is "square" in that all sides are 90° degrees. It's a bit of a play on words, and the word "a" is important 😅
Making houses cost more yet being much poorlier built requiring replacements sooner
Not according to the American wood council
@LowMaintenanceWoodWorks maybe I'm spoiled being from New England but everything I see going up in real life of online looks cheap and borderline tofu dreg style
That is a rectangle…. But it’s a square rectangle 😂
A square is a rectangle but a rectangle is more than a square 🤔
@ a rectangle is more than a square… but a rectangle that’s not square is now a rhombus 👀
Regrets for a moment not having worn a condom
Just sad how contractors are trying to cut corners , and turn out flimsy junk!
It was approved by the American wood council
All squares are rectangles, technically.
@@Phryxil explain??
@LowMaintenanceWoodWorks Rectangular describes any shape with 4 right angles. What we call a "rectangle" is technically an oblong rectangle.
@Phryxil oblong is a word you hardly hear of now
@@LowMaintenanceWoodWorks MATH 😂😂
@@ThatsGuy410 ironically, I'm coming at it from an etymological view- my math background is broad, but shallow.
😂😂😂😂 dad was flabbergasted 😂😂😂
@@IamAnAmerican. He sure was 🤣🤣
I thought it was some dimension brick layers and masons needed
The black diamonds on measuring tapes, specifically the ones marking 19 3/16 inches, are primarily designed for framing and layout in wood construction, particularly for engineered wood products like trusses and joists. They’re less relevant for bricklayers or stonemasons, who typically work with different materials and methods.
@ True Masons don’t need tape measures.
Floors/walls are still built like this in western canada. Not every house but its not uncommon either
@@TheDillinger187 the American wood council brought it in the sixties...
Thats true don't believe it. Its for layout of silent floor trusses
How is 5 instead of 6 saving on timber ??? It's still the same 8 foot width. 😮
5 is less than 6 ...if something cost 6 dollars and you only had 5 dollars would the shop keeper give it to you 🤔
This english guy i know said ur wrong, and i kinda believe him.
Welcome to the jungle 😂
Engineered floor joists, and to mess with apprentices…
It was approved by the American wood council
Just use metric....
@@joewilde. What do they call a quarter pounder with cheese in Paris 🤣
It was for TGI floor joist
That's why trusses keep cracking in all these new developed houses. They have no structural integrity.
@@PADOYLE same problem here in Ireland
@@juststartsomewhere9089 the materials used today are not of the same calibre of 30 or 40 years ago
