All it says* in this epilogue as a friend is either illusion or half-truths using tailored words and ignorant ppl just take the bait. *It actually doesnt say audibly, its all done thru telepathy literally messing with your mind. Illithids can infiltrate your mind to know what u want to hear or feel just like Emp did for much of the game. Here it creates illusion to make u feel good, but the problem is MF need only eat one brain per week to stay sated so around 25 in 6 months. In epilogue with partner where it can't really lie since u live in that misery together it actually says that "im absolutely famished" so that hundreds of lives/brains is bullshit, even the number of 25 is doubtful... The Cerebral Illithid form dulls emotions, its not about seeing more its literally your brain after getting consumed by the tadpole starts functioning like all other Illithids. This ending as other companions' bad endings is in the themes of loosing yourself, loosing identity and soul. Ceremorphosis destroys the apostolic soul, Karlach's soul that shines the brightest according to Withers became alien soul not available for Toril gods and its hungry for brains/memories: "I'm hungry in my body, but in my soul too." Living as Illithid is like loosing yourself in real time until your Illithid nature overwrites u and your previous life becomes only a fond memory.

Finding fix with Wyll/Tav in Avernus is her good ending

@@gaxgaxgax1234able when you go with her to Avernus you help her overcome her 2 sources of trauma ( being alone and enslavement under zariel ) . 3rd step is to fix the engine and return for good. Would it be more or less difficult than what u did during the game ? Noone knows, but 2 steps out of 3 are completed.

@@skandre7776 Well she would have rather died than returning to avernus The only good ending would be her engine fixxed ( they included the information of the blueprints that might cure her = good ending) Being stuck in hell fighting zariels minions is not a good ending ( Being able to not sleep for real bc devils wiill attack you)

She would rather die than, than live in the hells forever as Zariel servant, this is the literal line directly after second fix in act 2. That dialogue tree has all info why she doesnt want to go back. Zariel has Blood War to deal with she cannot assign endless resources on huting down one person

Except Withers says this creature still has Karlach's soul in an earlier scene, meaning it's still her. And honestly this scene implies that it's still Karlach, just a far more mellow version that's been altered by the tadpole, not a wholly new entity or just a matured tadpole. But what does that mean for The Emperor, or Orpheus if he gets turned instead? Why do none of the other mindflayers like Omeluum or the others throughout the game retain any memories of their past life beyond the tadpole bursting from their host? It's weird. And really inconsistent. And really annoying when you notice, especially in Act 3.

@@Boarbatriceeven still, Karlach was going to die. She’s right, this is a beautiful way to carry on the memories of people who die. Even if those memories are her own. Not that I believe that this isn’t truly Karlach. I can tell she’s in there. If not in mind, then in personality. I’m glad she had a way to live on, if differently, rather than be forced to go back to the place of torture and terror that was her hellhole for a decade. There are some things you just can’t ask a survivor to do.

@@sirdiesalot2975 It’s not inconsistent because the force from the Prince Orpheus explained that he’d let go of the protection over Karlack long enough to transform, but then right after restore it before her mind was altered. Essentially he hit a pause button and now Karlack is in limbo wheee she has the body and powers of a mind flare, but her mind and soul are still tied to her new body.

@@sirdiesalot2975 Orpheus is able to retain his past self as well, right down to his hatred of illithids, given that he begs to be killed once his role is over. He does say that he thinks that will fade over time, so perhaps Omeluum is just very old and forgot his old self with time.

@@Mithcoriel There is, Karlach's voice acting and speech patterns change greatly. All the energy her original self displayed is lost in a sea of emotionless utterances.

@@miguelcondadoolivar5149 Astarion gets mildly calmer too, if you compare a flamboyant speech at the beginning where he doesn't mind killing people, to his thank you when you stop him from ascening. Karlach might have more if a change, and maybe her personality changed a bit, but that doesn't mean she isn't herself.

I like Minthara, but the first one is so-so, the rest are good. Overall, there are much more powerfull rage screams among Tav voice sets.

I would just interpret that as the writers making a mistake with the numbers, rather than this whole conspiracy theory. There's nothing else in the game suggesting she's got a death cult, right? Or maybe she was talking about how in the future she'll have hundreds.

@Mithcoriel They have dedicated loremasters for this. Continuity personnel. Professional autists on retainer whose job is to go over every line of dialogue for sloppy contradictions and errors. There's no way this line wasn't intentional. If a mind flayer has beguiled you and gained your trust, you won't notice the bodies piling up behind it. "Focus on their actions, not their words." She preys exclusively on the vulnerable and, from what we learned from Balduran, flays those in charge of them to make it easier. And any infected by her spawn who go to the healer looking for help, get told to see Karlach and she convinces them it's not so bad and her flayed healers (now plural) can always triage them more food. It ends with a more subtle and sinister invasion.

@@JakesFavorites I missed the part where Balduran flays those in charge of them? And what does "flay" mean exactly, enthrall? I will note that, if Karlach were truly completely evil, she would just join a mind flayer colony. And if this really was an effective method for a covert invasion, mind flayers would be using it independent of her. Well, if you want some examples of contradictions in the game to show plot holes can happen: - Omeluum claims its ring of mind shielding is priceless, but if you offer gold for it, it costs 133gp. - If you attack the Emperor in the astral prism at the end of the game, it instantly betrays you and joins the absolute. If you attack it in an earlier scene, it won't. - originally the dream guardian gave you a gift every time they showed up. This has been changed, but there's still dislogue from you companions referring to them. - The timeline of when Balduran lived and when he was infected is somewhat inconsistent

Yeah, I know a lot of people don't like this ending for Karlach but I personally really like it. Yes she's not the same and it's not exactly the og Karlach, it's a being who kind of has inherited her memories. But her og self disappeared to accomplished what she dreamed of : saving her city and become a baldur's gate legend. I do agree that her returning to Avernus is probably the best ending tho. <

Sure we have no way of knowing for 100% sure. But no need fearing the worst without evidence.

@@jamesvega6813 So the transformation didn't make sense. That's why I was going to hell with her in the first place. Now that's a good ending for her, where you're looking for ways to mend her heart together.

@@96Haron96 First you quote Withers as proof it's not Karlach, and when someone does the opposite you say Withers could have lied. Even if that "isn't Karlach", it's still not a monster. It's a hero who stopped the Elder Brain and saved us all, and who desires to help people. It deserves to be loved.
