This is based on a real-life animal - the banana slug! (I didn’t realise this would happen until someone told me about it)
He hatched from his shell, which is his egg.
Correction: Tassilusc was born with his shell, but the egg he was born from and the shell are separate things.
But, yes, you can make that your own headcanon :3
