Often said that success can be if's and but's when you look back at Jimmy's time at Goodison. I saw his starts in the 1966-67 season when he played in the old inside forward position very effectively. Often with greats like Alex Young, Alan Ball, and Derek Temple alongside. One significant week in the history of the Blues was in March 1971. Everton had won the title the season before with Jimmy playing a major part. Their defence of it in 1970-71 started poorly and by Christmas were out the title race. However in January league form picked up and progress made in the FA Cup. Jimmy was back to his best form. When Everton played the Greek team, Panathinaikos in the quarter final of the European Cup, first leg at Goodison. There was no real TV coverage from the UK to other countries back then. I stood on the old Goodison road terrace on the night of the game and saw the Greek defenders target Jimmy from the start with knee high tackles, that caused him leave the game in the first half and replaced by David Johnson. The Greeks defended the high crosses and some weak finishing, the type Roy Vernon or Fred Pickering would have buried. The game ended 1-1 the blues drew the second leg and went out on the away goal, three days later the blues lost an FA Cup semi final 2-1, that would destroy the confidence of the late 1960s early 70s Everton team. Many speculated how the Greek team knew Jimmy was the man in form and danger to them. His speed and movement around to box could easily brought the couple of goals, Harry Catterick said they would need to take to Greece for the second leg. The European Cup final was played at Wembley in 1971, between Ajax and the Greek side Who knows, if Jimmy hadn't been taken out of that game, Everton could have been at Wembley that warm night in May 1971.

He played for Luton for a few years after he left Everton, think he was part of the team that won promotion to the old first division in 1974, best days were well behind him, but he was a fans favourite, some fans used to call him Jimmy "on his a**e" Husband because of his penchant for going down in the box, got a few penalties I think, God rest him, RIP.
