      In my introduction video (part 1) I explained what kind of videos I would be sharing. These are not tour guide videos. I have that stated in the description box of each video but I do show signs of the villages along the way in the videos, and end with a quick verbal description if needed. If you need a guide video there are hundreds on youtube of this same route. Type in yt search "camino de santiago guide" and choose from there. We watched a few of them, as we were training for this walk, and some were helpful to us. Also helpful is the book called "A Pilgrim's Guide to the Camino de Santiago" it was our bible along the way. I hope that helps!

What amazing memories I have and I'm grateful for what I did get on video. I'm happy for you that you got some of the camino in your memories too! It really doesn't matter if anyone finishes it or not, it's the memories you take with you from the part that you did that matters most.

      It was eerie walking through, what seemed to be, "ghost towns" but in reality they were just sleeping, lol In these little villages in Spain they call it "siesta" that's when they sleep the hottest part of the day away. That includes businesses too.

      I never thought about snakes but I did think about ticks.. I don't even know if ticks are an issue in Spain but I was still worried about that. A few times I did also worry about being completely alone in the middle of nowhere. How would we call for help? But John and I grew up in the wilderness together, where help would be at least a day away, so I think that helped a lot.. it was kind of like home in a way lol

    Spain seems like West Virginia, all hills and mountains. I have a knee that can manage going up but screams going down the other side. I use a hiking staff but I want to get ski poles for hiking that I see a lot of Appalachian Trail hikers using. You all are my heros. I am loving this armchair hike that you are taking us on.

    Did you ever camp? Or did you stay in hostel type places each night and eat at little cafes along the way? I went backpacking in the wilderness. No cell reception so we didn't even bring heavy phones. We had one person in our group of 10 with a satellite phone, one person trained in Wilderness First Aid, someone carrying the big first aid kit. The satellite phone only worked at certain times of day and certain geographical regions. So if anyone would have gotten injured, it could have been 2 days before help could arrive. Bear and rattlesnake country, and we saw both. I got hiking poles and I'm so glad I did, had to learn how to use them, even my son wanted some by the time we were done. I also have a questionable knee from a prior injury, so I wore a knee brace to fortify that knee. It reminded me to be aware of that leg, kept it warmer etc. My son also wanted knee braces by the time we were done. He was 12. It was hard to feel so away from society, because we saw lots of people on the trail each day.

    • @sharonojala2.0
      @sharonojala2.0 2 года назад

      we never camped along the Camino. Most Albergues were very cheap to stay in, some included a meal, all included a shower. At the end of the day it would have been a lot of effort to set up camp but we did have camping gear along just in case of emergency. I did have a knee brace but it seemed to aggravate the issue so John taped it up with sports tape and that did the trick. He's a first responder (fire fighter) so I had the best companion to walk with in case of injuries. We debated bringing poles. I did try out some on the way, briefly, from another "Pilgrim" who wanted to see if that would help my knee but poles take time to get used to like you said. Some days we would see people walking and then other days we were all alone. Great experience though, I definitely want to do another Camino one day.

    • @recoveringsoul755
      @recoveringsoul755 2 года назад

      @@sharonojala2.0 lol, I was SO awkward with poles at first, thinking too much. But they saved me, once quite literally from face planting at 12,000 feet elevation. Waved around wildly in the air until landing and I think I sprained my ankle a little, wore hiking boots and kept going. Stopped for lunch by a pool of water snow melt runoff. Went wading in there to apply "ice". Seemed to help. The stars were amazing in the wilderness. It is somewhat comforting to hike where you still have phone reception though. And being away from that, you feel more like you're alone out there. Loved the vending machine with medical supplies. We had to pack everything with us. Nowhere to buy anything. No toilets, no showers. Can't even use CampSuds to wash anything because it pollutes the ground there. Only hand sanitizer was allowed

    I really appreciate you taking us along on this amazing journey. John is an intrepid cart hauler. Those rocks made parts of the trail look reall treacherous. no, I never really adjusted to it.. on the days we climbed mountains I definitely felt the pressure in my chest, quicker breathing and all that goes with it, but nothing I couldn't handle for sure.
