Frank Wakefield - Happy 80th Birthday Bill Monroe - with David Grisman
10 days before Bill Monroe's 80th Birthday Celebration in Bean Blossom, Indiana, Frank Wakefield returned to the SF Bay Area for a reunion with his bandmates David Nelson and Tom Stern...I was booked to go to Bean Blossom and I asked the two mandolin titans to play Happy Birthday on their mandolins...and then the early 90's Canon Hi-8 camcorder wouldn't power up and roll the tape...I kept begging for a pause; the players were getting antsy and impatient...after a full minute or two, the tape started to roll and I told them...without one second of pre-roll for the leader tape to wind around, they started instantly when they saw the red light, so the beginning was cut...however I think we c...

WARNING: HIPPIE WITH CAMCORDER SNEAK PREVIEW View Numbers Frozen Nice and Low....
Went to a lot of great shows at the I Beam, unfortunately I seemed to have missed this one.
Loved these guys, shows were so fun, yeah Jonny Ax. Also miss Disciples of Ed, still got their music playing
A great way to spend a couple of hours. Thanks much
Thank you for upload and greetings from Germany.

Thank You 💕 HBD Bill
Thank you ❤
Wow, the sound of this show is supremely trippy!
Hey, I was at this show. Opened for Phil Alvin. Thanks for posting!
Yikes, the Rhythm Rowdys!
this must be rare
Thank you 😊
Love Marty Robbins! The music was good too.
Dead head here. Ive never seen this entire set. Awesome!! Amazing!! What a band!! Thank you 😊😊😊
Adorei demais ❤
Ksan radio station Bay area played New Year Eve concert with the Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers. Totally great show. One of my all-time favorite radio stations when I lived in the Bay area they were on top of the chart that this station to listen to.
the KSAN simulcast shows of many bands are circulating as bootleg FLAC downloads and they are all worth listening to...some have been released commercially...highly recommend "Way Out West", Marshall Tucker Band at Winterland September 26, 1973, opening for Allman Brothers...
If this is 73, then there is no Duane. that's Dickey Betts
AWESOME
Very cool that people bother to record these shows. Every show I have gone to I never felt like taking the trouble lol. . .if it wasn't for folks like you, folks like me could never experience this excellent band performing such a tight set, it would be lost to us. Very cool, indeed! 😊😎
The folks that recorded this got it from the Soundboard at the concert which is why it sounds as good as it is for such a huge show of some 70 thousand hippies including me . I was there on Saturday . I never thought i would ever hear this nor the show at American University with the original band. We are lucky !!!
A month later, the Dead again joined The ABB along with The Band at Watkins Glen for Summer Jam. What a summer!!
They played this show very well. One of the best live bands ever.
What happened to the mic audio on Whippin Post? Is it my cheap computer sound card losing a channel from stereo?
soundboard blunder/mic failure/ bad wire at concert...par for the course with soundboard tapes...it is what it is...
@@warninghippiewithcamcorder5456 Thanks, I first thought it was my computer. thanks for the reply and the great music.
Great great music folks! I was born a rambling man!
The Dead are OK. But Dickey Betts is just glorious.🎸
Dickey is the hero: "Ramblin Man","Southbound", "Jessica"...the other guys would have been very lucky to play the bars in Macon without him....I never forgave them for any of their misdeeds against Dickey...went to his show and skipped theirs....."Brothers and Sisters" is indisputably the finest comeback album ever made by a broken band, end of story....in a few weeks there will be an in-depth book about the post-Duane Allman Band entitled "Brothers and Sisters" which details their many reunions and breakups....
Nice 👍been a Dead and ABB for ever , love MTBTooi
I was there for both days, 20 years old, stoned, eating methaqualudes, the bleachers and the field was full of hippies, the cops on scaffolds on the field. People running around naked, 2 days of partying, Deadheads everywhere, 12 noon till midnight
thanks for posting this, imagine hearing the songs "Ramblin' Man", "Southbound" and "Jessica" from the album "Brothers and Sisters" that were not yet released, that buy itself must have been epic. great quality
An active Dead channel that I had not known about, eh,... LOL! That is good! I am here to see what this hippie with camera has captured, or projected over the years! Show us brother!
wasn't aware that this was an active Dead channel...(no Dead content)...much more in the vault...long process digitizing, logging, selecting, editing....no hurry to post....planning on some nice postings in the fall and winter...
@@warninghippiewithcamcorder5456 many blessings to you and the fams watching
I believe you listed 1973 as the year this happened, IT can't be . . .Dwayne Allman playing slide guitar with the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND. . . DIED IN 1971. CORRECT ? ?
They still called it Allman Brothers Band...the show opened with "Wasted Words" from the not-yet-released masterwork "Brothers and Sisters", the single best comeback album from a broken band ever...Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts were standing center stage, each with a guitar. Dickey played the slide...Gregg would then move to the organ for the remainder...the twin guitar harmony was covered on the piano by Chuck Leavell...the new bassist who replaced Berry Oakley was Lamar Williams...
7$ a day! Gotta love those days!! I did!!
Wonderful recording! Love 1:03:51
Thanks for heads up!!🫶
Jessica is the best.
Looks like Mortys AKA Club Cocodrie perhaps? Based on the brick background.
Old dicky loved his trembly les Paul settings.
Awesome to hear this again (without the noise from where I was standing). Brings back lots of memories. I'll admit that the American U shows were awesome too. As was the show in Roanoke. Growing up in DC exposed us to the best!!
Pleasantly surprised
Que pena que no Brasil, não tem banda assim!!!
OMG...Duane on slide!
Duane had died in October 1971, Berry Oakley died in November 1972....you are hearing the strongest comeback ever from a completely broken band....Duane was not replaced...the show opened with "Wasted Words" , Dickey on slide and Gregg standing up front with Dickey, playing rhythm chords on a guitar similar to Duane's, so the audience saw two guitars on the first song...the twin lead harmonies were played on piano by Chuck Leavell, Lamar Williams took over bass duties and the band was once again as strong as ever...this version of the band has deniers and retractors; they are tin-eared pissants and dipsticks....
@@warninghippiewithcamcorder5456 AMEN
Was one and two days old. 😂
BEST F-CKING BAND EVER! EVER !!!
love it
I saw the Saturday show, when the Dead played all afternoon, and The Allman Brothers played in the evening. It was my second concert ever, and I had no idea how iconic it was 'til many years later. I was just 16 years old, and it still ranks up there in the top 5 favorite concerts in my life. I still have my program from that show too!
My 1st Dead show was at the Hollywood Bowl in 1974 - "wall of sound". I'd only been to 2 concerts before that (Cal Jam and Mott the Hoople), so I had no idea what was normal(?) and what wasn't. Didn't figure out until later that the wall of sound was WHACKED.
what a bill!!! The Grateful Dead is one of my all time favorite bands ever...Brett Mydland on the keys my favorite lineup...But The Allman Bros with Duane Allman, Dickey Betts and Gregg Allman, Chuck ...LEGENDS of Rock and Roll.....and The Marshall Tucker Band...just an epic bill of musicians...if they ever invent a real life time machine I probably would 1st travel to June 9th, 1973 to RFK stadium...
sadly, both Duane Allman and Berry Oakley had died on their motorcycles prior to this show...
@@warninghippiewithcamcorder5456 oh my god...May they forever Rest In Peace...yes I thought they died toward mid 70"s...born in late 69 I was only 2 or 3 yrs old when they had tragically passed...the show sounded just excellent and the recording quality 👋...what a tremendous loss.... to think , The Allman Bros were in their earliest stage, in their infancy of their destined and super successfully historic ride. And, .....to lose almost half of the bands sound, not even mentioning the soul and which many might argue that Duane and Berry were even more than half of the bands sound....but all these years later and their music STILL resonates at a level that hits the soul in that incredible magical sort of way that only the few which possessed a gift (for lack of a better word) to touch millions of people on such a deeply felt personal level...
@@Jsgro69 Dickey is the hero: "Ramblin Man","Southbound", "Jessica"...the other guys would have been very lucky to play the bars in Macon without him....I never forgave them for any of their misdeeds against Dickey...went to his show and skipped theirs....."Brothers and Sisters" is indisputably the finest comeback album ever made by a broken band, end of story....in a few weeks there will be an in-depth book about the post-Duane Allman Band entitled "Brothers and Sisters" which details their many reunions and breakups....
@@warninghippiewithcamcorder5456 Totally agree...100% Mr Dickey Betts is THE MAN!!! without his musicianship The AB are a entirely different sound...Do you think he may have been a leading factor for the band to go on after losing Duane...not only go on as a tribute. To go forward from Duane's passing....not saying to replace by any stretch... but Dickey"s contributions to a very large part of The Allman Brothers groove and that unmistakable AB sound
@@warninghippiewithcamcorder5456 Likewise. Nice that Chuck Leavell (on piano here) honored him at the "Hall of Fame" Cleveland ceremony. I miss Great Southern.
Sweet thanks for this! Great period for the ABB, gratis!
Great job thank you excellent performance and recording
🎉 excellent thanks
So this is what tripping on acid looks and sounds and tastes like!!🎉
Cheered me up today. I've listened to a couple clips of the Dead, but this is GREAT. 2 terrific days...got a bit sunburned!
Because back then at 14-15 yo we could safely attend these epic concerts and gatherings in harmony and peace and love. Most of me is glad to have these experiences and remarkable memories, but I think having known and enjoyed these times in America also make me that much more sorrowful for the hate, evil, and demonic behavior in society and the government's attempt to destroy us. It won't work, of course, but the senseless fight we must undergo is just beginning.. hold the line.
I was at both days best shows I ever saw
IF I WERE EVER TO HAVE A WEDDING THIS WOULD BE MY OVERALL PICK FO THE WEDDIN SONG
