Find a picture of your makeup that you think looks really flattering on you, then turn it black and white. Find someone with a lot of contrast in their face, find a makeup look that looks good on them, turn it black and white. If you colour pick their skin/features/makeup, it will have more contrast than if you colour pick yours. This is what this whole “trend” means. You don’t have to wear intentionally unflattering makeup because of it. It’s meant to show you what works. You know like using dark brown instead of black or beige instead of brown. It doesn’t mean you can only use beige for everything from now on.
