absolutely outstanding. not seen any new videos in a while. hope all is well in the buman household and we'll get some more content... ...one day. thanks for the inspiration.
Rooves?
I applaude you, you talented son of a gun!!! A+
Hi from Ukraine 🇺🇦 Nice miniatures 🎉
Late to the party but those older miniatures are a lot more characterful than the plastic current old world version.
They Look Great! The Russian Army Looks Like Tons of FUN!
Great stuff, though I suggest putting the second story floor on the first story walls, that way you don’t have the walls in your way for gaming
Very helpful!!
Awesome!
Looking great! Just started my Soviets. I suggest you grab the Black Tree naval sculpts.
Great work, How has the algorithm just shown me this when you did it so long ago?
Great stuff !
Absolute fantastic!!! Great work, thanks for sharing that. Cheers
you are a life saver i was about to spend way too much money on o scale trains and tracks
Very helpful guide - thanks for taking the time 👍
Nice job on those classic figures.
Thank you!!
very nice! the blue and white champion is actually a character called Baron Odo d'Outremer
Thank you! Right you are good Sir!
Clever!
Thanks! It is amazing what you can do with these wonderful kits!
Amazing army! Looks fantastic 😮
Thank you! Much appreciated!!
Looks great love the colours on them great paint job
Thanks so much! I have loved working on this army and likely will be returning to it in the near future :)
I should have mentioned one other option.I'm very slowly working on a stand-alone Bolt Action diorama, where the U.S. Army is loading a troop train back in the States. I have five pieces of Atlas two-rail O gauge track, and picked up a couple of Lionel O27 flat cars to carry the load. I'm planning on loading at least one Sherman, a couple of jeeps, and 75mm HMC Scott. A long term project. I have most of the equipment, now need the time to build it all!
Great idea! Sounds like a fun project :)
Very interesting and creative use of some old school modeling techniques, mixed with updated materials. Lots of good ideas here-thanks.
Thanks for the kind words and I am glad if the video offered some inspiration for your own projects :)
You left out S gauge at 1/64. Also, two-rail O track is equivalent to the 5' gauge of the Soviet railroads system.
I wasn't familiar with S gauge but that could be an option. O scale two rail is a good option as well. I went with a compromise between realistic look scale wise and economical. Definitely lots of ways to go! Thanks for the comment :)
What a wonderful army. As a Bretonnian fellow painter, you did a great job!
Thank you so much 😀
These are great.
Thank you! Sorry for the late reply!
Exceptional work. I'm trying something similar with 3D print buildings.
Thank you! I hope it offered some inspiration! Good luck with your project :)
Amazing colours! Did you use washes? Any tips would be amazing as I start my own army :)
Thank you! I find it best to prime white when painting bright colors so that is where I start. Then I base coat the entire model in the various colors and then occasionally use a citadel wash that is near to the color of each base coat color. For example, on the yellow, I used seraphim sepia by GW. If a wash is used, that is the only time. I then just paint using thin layers and gradually bring each color up until I reach the lightest shade as a highlight. It is a pretty old school style of painting but I think it matches the era that these miniatures and the look that I fell in love with back in the 90's. Hope that helps! Have fun with you project!
Excellent ❤❤❤
Thank you!!
Would it be easier to etch the stonework into xps foam rather than using clay? Just wondering as I’m going to attempt to scratch build terrain soon.
It probably would be easier in xps foam. I didn’t have any on hand and I have never used it for terrain before so I was more comfortable with the clay, which is super cheap. I have a terrain book describing the process and I follow a gentleman in the UK that makes buildings for war gaming this way on commission and have been blown away with the results he achieves. I wanted to give it a try myself. I found it to be intuitive and enjoyable. I like the heft that the clay provides and I think as my skills improve, extremely realistic results could be achieved. I would say for very large pieces, like a castle, foam might be batter. If you have xps foam readily available and are interested in going that route, give it a try! Both mediums can give very good results. Good luck with your project!!
Splendid work!
Thank you! It’s been a labor of love! I hope to return to this project over the winter😊
What's the greenish khaki you used for their uniforms? It's the perfect color, usually I see them painted too brown! Please let me know before I start painting up my soviets!
I primed in white. Base coated with Coat D Arms Tan Earth. Washed with Agrax Earthshade. Highlighted with Vallejo 70-882 Middlestone. I spent a lot of time experimenting to achieve the uniform color that I was looking for and am happy with the result. Hope that helps and good luck with your Soviets!
Wow love this! What did use to make the bases?
Thanks so much! The bases are hand cut from 1/8” pressboard that I purchased from Home Depot. I used basswood strips from Hobby Lobby to make the tray edging. I also magnetized the bases of the miniatures with rare earth magnets. The movement trays have thin sheets of flex steel glued to the bottom that I purchased from Litco. This configuration hold the knights in the movement trays even if turned upside down. This helps prevent damage during play, transport and storage. Let me know if you have more questions😊
Loved this, great job! A whole heap of work in there...if you haven't done urban bases, you just don't know how much work it is! And you've done it really well!
Thanks for the kind words! I really enjoyed working on this army. It was my first Bolt Action army that wasn’t Western European green bases so it was fun to do something different. Urban bases are very time consuming but can result in very characterful bases😊
The colour is awesome, one of the best armies I have seen of the best warhammer realm. I only have a battalion box of these from tge 90's. Great work
Thanks for the kind words! This project has been a true labor of love. I hope to be returning to it this winter😊
Great looking force! Good to be based to play different rules.
Thank you! I thought the basing flexibility was the best choice for me
WOW
Thanks you :)
I think you should aim for 5000 points :D This is my favorite Bretonnian army in the world. I cant wait for you to finish all 25 Questing knights and the mighty Grail knights and the characters Tristan le Troubadour and his jester and the Green Knight... There's so much awesome here it's unreal. You have inspired me to make a start on my own 5th edition Bretonnian army. I've spent a lot of cash building a small collection, I've been stripping paint and cleaning mould lines, now it's time to break out the old hairy sticks and set to it. Cheers!
Thanks so much for the kind words and I am glad I could inspire you to build you own army!! I have had a blast working on this army and will be returning to it in the months to come. It is truly a labor of love and I know it will be a continuing lifetime project. I have so much to paint for this army yet and am excited to return to my Bretonnians over the many years to come! Be sure to share pictures of your army in the various facebook groups or via youtube. Enjoy the journey my friend :)
Will there be more Bretonnian videos? I really like them!
Thank you! I have more Bretonnians to paint and look forward to doing them. I am currently on other miniature projects but will likely be back to this one in the months to come. I will be sure to post up videos when I do!! Thanks for watching :)
These are so rare! It's insane just how hard they are to find. There's a guy on eBay right now with 15 of them over three lots asking 1500 euro for them. I want them badly but there's just no way I can afford that. May I ask how much you paid for all 20 together? Are there 25 total or 23? On S.O.L I can only see 23. It sucks that I only have 4 :( Wonderful painting btw, just wonderful! I've watched all of your vids on these multiple times dreaming one day of owning them myself!
Thanks for the kind words! Much appreciated! There are 25 5th edition Questing Knight sculpts including Hero, Champion, Musician, and Standard bearer. I was super lucky to get the full set for $200 USD. At that time they were not bringing such crazy prices that seemed to start during Covid. The guy I got them from had gotten them from someone else years back and, as he was no longer interested in painting them and looking to start a Bolt Action army, he made me a good deal. It was a good deal but a fair price at the time. Oh how prices have changed! It was just dumb luck that I was buying a lot of 5th edition Bretonnians a couple of years before they became so desirable.
I guess I missed this when I was on vacation. That Soviet woman spotter with the Hulkster arms is great! It's almost like feilding a character you can make up a story about. Nice size comparisons with the similar poses.
Thanks James! She already has developed a bit of a story through game play and the size of her arms must be an indication of her monumental toughness lol! Hope all is well :)
ruclips.net/video/5cXKE6_SaMc/видео.html you might like oiur Stalingrad table or Tarawa at Carronade Show ruclips.net/video/aJJp_Eh2kpE/видео.html
Nice Video. I am currently working on Terrain for BOlt Action and also Black Powder in the Franco Prussian War era where trains were widely used for Prussian troop movement. This will definitely make the battlefield more interesting. Have you perhaps checked out Sarissa Precision? They have also released some MDF train tracks and trains fitting for 28mm.
Thanks! I have seen the the Sarissa train. Thanks for the heads up! I am actually considering it for my Stalingrad table I am currently working on. I think it would fit in well. Good luck with your train project and have fun!!
Great work and actually great collection - I do my own Soviet right now ..`d love to mix black tree minis ect with warlord figures ( more options from UK of course) but since Brexit postage is killing my desire to buy - the only way for me is Amazon and not everything is there....
Thank you! Brexit has really caused trouble for many people ordering from the UK. What a shame. Good luck with your project!!
Thank you for the comparison. Your paint job is well done. Did you build the bases? Those look sharp.
Thank you! I did make the bases. I used a variety of sizes of Woodland Scenics ballast, bricks form Pegasus Hobbies, and thin sheets of wood cut into plank/board widths and broken into short pieces. It was fun to try something different from my standard green summer/spring bases.
I love that there is no standard across companies 😂😂 some of these aren't a bad match up though.
Thank you! Yeah you would think 28mm would be more the same across all manufacturers. Most of my army is Black Tree Design to help keep them more uniform but I couldn't resist adding some infantry from other manufacturers to add variety. Overall I am happy with the results!
Lovely work dan
Thanks Justin! Not as impressive as your Napoleonics though!
Beautiful paintwork Dan. Really like the look of these. 👍
Thanks Jim! I had lots of fun painting these.
Love you guys with the petrol bombs , and the brick basing , great painting dan
Thanks so much! I appreciate you taking the time to comment :)
great comparison Dan, and the figures are stunning
Thanks Sean. I was happy how they turned out though it is surprising how the quality diminishes when looking at them that closely on video lol!
Thats a really interesting comparison video and very good paintjobs. Greetings Christoph
Thanks Christoph!
