Never said he was a better 6, I am saying that I don’t think Rice’s best position is at the 8. For me the future is with rice at the base, but Partey is a specialist in that position and playing well rn! I said in the video, it’s a case of rotation, similar to when we seen Jorginho play against Forest. Partey has a Rocky injury record, he doesn’t and shouldn’t have to play every game.

@@GunnersStreet despite his slow start to this season, rice is the best #8 in both the arsenal and england setup. in fact, with the decline of debrunye, rice is probably the best #8 in the premier league. i believe arteta sees a fit partey, rice, and odegaard, as arguably the best midfield in world football. rice's progressive carries are favorable for a #8 but not a quality conducive to playing as a lone #6. opponents will note a cdm's propensity to run with the ball and set traps. the result if he gets caught in possession would be catastrophic. that's why cdm's don't carry the ball. the exception is santi cazorla but he's truly exceptional...and even he only did it when he had to. interesting concept but not a good idea; just my opinion.

A double pivot is Interesting but I wouldn’t cater too much into player but more rather style of play. In theory your idea works but if we still play without the dynamism in the attacking line and fail to take risk with our passing and forward play, we will continue To get the same results as we’ve been seeing! But for me I’d go Rice or Partey at the base and play merino left and odegaard right 8 for the Forest Game

@ I agree with you on the need for dynamism and creativity but I'd like to shift the focus to our defense. We had the league's best defense last season so what's changed? Despite a stronger back five without White our midfield spine seems missing. Partey excels going forward breaking up play and playing from the right but we lack dominance without Declan Rice in that role. Remember our first win against Man City at the Emirates? Partey and Rice formed a solid double pivot in the second half making us defensively impenetrable. Perhaps signing someone like Zubimendi to replace Partey could be the solution allowing us to field a strong midfield trio with Rice Zubimendi and Odegaard.

@@yf9409 thank you for your comment and coming back for the conversation! It was a great performance! This performance shows what happens when you have your fully fit squad back, everyone is better. With Partey and odegaard breaking the lines like that, it takes a lot off Rice creatively, allowing him to cover ground, win tackles and drive the ball into important positions. Partey and odegaard for me were the MOTM today, along with Saka and Raya but honestly it was an amazing team performance! Gabriel was CLASS in pocketing GYKORES!

@@yf9409 I’d also say, this line up is a great lineup for games such as this one where teams will try to impose themselves and we have to cover a lot of ground when we lose the ball or have a really strong press. In games where teams are gonna sit in against us, I’d prefer Partey or Rice at the base instead of both at the same time. But it’s all good problems to have! That’s the best thing about building an ELITE SQUAD!

First of all, thank you for the comment, I always love the conversation. I wouldn’t mind if Rice sits for a while if it gets us the victories we need and I agree, Partey at the base has something rice doesn’t and that’s the passing ability. I made rice the ultimate switch because we haven’t seen it yet but you are also right in saying we okay slow rn. However, with the right profiles in the right areas as well as having calafiori back, hopefully that takes the hand brake off our style of play. Rice is going through a rut and I think we are seeing he isn’t the 8 we need but I think at the 6, his passing is underrated. Overall, our game lacks risk atm, which is why so many teams were scared of us. Back end of last season when we went on a run and even the start of last season, Rice was IMMENSE at the base of midfield so it’s not like it can’t work, however, I wouldn’t mind either one at the base, I just don’t wanna see rice work In those pockets, just doesn’t suit our play and makes us slower overall.

@GunnersStreet I'm not saying that Rice can not improve but the stats prove that he doesn't pass the ball forward like Partey which slows our attack down even more as he passes it back or sideways to much , They are the ultra safe pass. He also doesn't carry the ball forward as well as Partey. Rice has more pace to get back, which is good, but it doesn't help going forward, which is where we are in trouble. When Partey leaves or gers injured then put Rice as 6 As for having the right personal to open things up, we already have that. We proved it 2 seasons ago when we scared every team to death with the chaos we unleashed. Our problems started in game 1 of last season from the opening possession when White literally walked the ball up the field in this slow progression style we played and have brought back this season. It wasn't until the Dubai break that we opened things up 20 games into the season. After that we were great for the most part. The teams problems start and finishes with Arteta, and if it continues like this, the back lash from the fans will not be pretty.

I 100% agree. It’s a long season, he will get minutes but Arteta can’t keep denying him, so hopefully he puts the decision out of doubt. Nwaneri is really good!

He played majority of the 22/23 season and was one of the best players at DM in the league that season. Last season when he did play he was in the best midfield we rolled out with rice and odegaard.

Partey is rhe reason Arsenal FC Tick tacks.... We can't over look his composure and accuracy when he's on form. Merino is abit slow but also good. We need to find a way to deal with those three

True, and with FBref is hard to split but the stats are used to support the things I’ve seen. Why I think we lack so much creativity over recent weeks is that we failed to use those areas effectively. That’s why when Nwaneri plays, the game is brought to life SIGNIFICANTLY (in my opinion). Just trying to highlight dropping Rice to the 6 and allowing Merino to play 8 is an experiment worth seeing now odegaard is back to knit things together!

@@GunnersStreet Yeah, fair. I think Nwaneri is still a long way away. You see it in his movements, such as when he came on against Newcastle. The guy didn't click with the rest of the right side. He didn't know when to underlap and take his marker away

I totally disagree, the 6 is the link between Saliba and the 8s and Rice's passing stats from last season proved that Partey is the better choice. The one factor though is Arteta, because no matter who is the 6 if we continue to play this slow perdictable style that is a wet dream for our opponents, we will struggle. These players are at their best at speed creating chaos on the pitch not passing the ball around the horseshoe of death when we finally get into the final 1/3. If we continue with this style, new striker or no new striker we will not win anything let alone qualify for CL.

We could definitely use another attacker but I wanted to focus on what we have now and how we can get better with the players we have.
