OurNige The Chronic
Добавлен 1 сен 2014
A Chronicle is a record of things that happened in the order they happened.
These videos are meant for people with an attention span of more than your average goldfish they are hopefully relaxing and enjoyable with good music and beautiful scenery. Please pass on to anyone who might like them.
I used to play and write songs but due to health issues I don't anymore. Some of my songs/videos are on here and I think they're worth a look.
I did a blog when I bought my narrowboat. Details the 9 days it took to cruise it from Lymm Manchester to Mercia Marina, Derbyshire. Paul Smith has a website called livingonanarrowboat so if you're interested go to the site - Narrowboat forum -
Narrowboat Blogs - Steppin' Out first date. There are quite a few by me and many others. March 2013 it all started and the Maiden Voyage video are photos from that journey. Cheers

Showing the passing seasons here at Mercia Marina and surrounding area. All photos taken in the month in the title. Birds, clouds, trees and anything else I may find interesting. Flowers and passing animals along with the weather. I've picked what I consider to be some fine music and songs to go with video.

Steppin' Out - maiden voyage

The first journey of Steppin' Out, even though it wasn't called that at the time. 9 days, 90 miles and 90 locks roughly. A very interesting journey taken almost 9 years ago. Now about to start another journey. After my brush with the Reaper, Dec 2020, partially recovered and now about to start my life has an OAP in November. Thank you to those who helped me on my boat journey and those who have...

Cracking tunes on that young man 😀 I'll bring you a booty bag of veg soon
Hi guys, was the Express part of the Sheerline name? I used to drive wedding VDP type Sheerlines, square speedo and instruments. The owner had glass divisions on his fleet too, with the occasional folding seats. Column gear change that was so vague 😎 it was pot luck which gear you got 😯 Of course the driver door had a lever that dropped the window in one swift movement rather than a window crank. I eventually was trusted to drive the Daimler DS420 cars with auto box Blissss. Great fun for a Saturday job, do a good job and get a healthy tip as well as the wage. Usually bridesmaid and mother in one car then bride and father in next car. Cheers DougT
Hi Doug thanks for your comment. I'm afraid I put the express in to Sheerline express it is called poetic licence. It helped make the words scan better and it was only afterwards we noticed the EX on the number plate. That does sound like a good Saturday job to me. I don't see so much of Colin but I drop in a message. Thanks for message- Nige
I have an A125 sheerline. But not in this pristine condition. It needs alot of work. Love your song and clip.
Great context ,great music 🎶 Keep up the good work Nige .Another good un youth .😊
It's a thumbs up from me Nige .
Great video, songs and images go together perfectly, carnt wait to get back for week soon. More videos like this please.
Woke up to this on my phone this morning. Brought back great memories when l stayed at my friend's caravan. The beautiful Abbey, the harbour and its colourful buildings, and forgetting how many steps l had walked down to the town .Great work Nige ,could almost smell the fish and chips at the Magpie Cafe .
thank you very very much so glad you enjoyed the video and happy times in Whitby. I hope you enjoyed the others took I do the monthly Mercia as a look at the area I live in through the seasons. I only started it this year and then thought I'd do one for Whitby. I've just got back from Lindisfarne island and I think that will turn into a couple of Chronicles but I can't see them appearing till into the New Year. Again many many thanks, Nige
This is delightful, great music to accompany scenes from our marina and beyond. Particularly enjoyed the cruise to Willington. No people, just boats and nature cleverly edited. Thank you xxxxxx
Thanks very much Petra it's nice to know it is liked.
Brilliant as usual. 😊
Great video nige .Beautiful song ,powerful words .
Thanks Fred, this is Huthwaite were I lived before Mercia.
I realy enjoyed that and I recorgnised my old work mate Steve Evens from the MEBON days as I was one of the plant engineers there, Iv been a boat skipper for Nottinghamshire Council since 1983 and now its a charity and its a good pastime for me now Im retired. I also realy liked your songs.
Thanks for the comments and I'll try to remember to tell Steve. Are you working on The Crusader I think it was called. I worked in Registered Care and used to take some of residents to Colwick park for trip out at times. Enjoy
@@ournigethechronic Hello hope you’re well, unfortunately the Nottingham Crusader has been sold off and it’s sadly down in Colwick Marina alongside one of the old Trip boat, I think hard times have come to some of these ventures. I started as a passenger boat skipper in 1983 with Nottinghamshire county council working out of the Fellows Morton & Clayton wharf in NOTTINGHAM, eventually, gaining my boat masters passenger license. I also skippered Boats for Doncaster county council. During all this time I’ve always been a volunteer and it’s wonderful to give something back to the community. Now I’m retired I’m able to give more time to the project It’s a charity now and it’s so much better than it was years ago when it was run by the County council and city council bureaucracy. Hopefully we’ll meet up at some point Andy 👍
Appreciate the time spent not only making the contents of the video, but in selecting the music to .Keep it up Nige ,doing a great job youth .😊
As one who is struggling to get around at the moment. Thank you Nige for bringing this wonderful marina that we live in to my doorstep. Great job .😊
Fantastic. May was such a busy month on the marina. Love to see the swan defending the family from the geese
Thanks very much but it was actually the goose stopping the male swan from attacking his goslings.
Ah I see. Think I’m always biased in the swan’s favour!
Best one yet Nige .Great content, beautiful songs 🎵 👌
Beautiful photography Nige ,and great songs 🎵 Keep it up youth .Hope there is more to come .
Great video, great songs Nige .Very enjoyable.
Glad you enjoyed it Fred and I do like comments.
❤I so enjoyed this video Nigel, loving the marina in early spring and all that snow. Great clouds, birds, rainbow and of course Daphne
Great to find this :) My Dad had one in the early 60's. The thing I ALWAYS loved doing was pressing the button under the driver's seat and seeing the whole car raise with the four hydraulic jacks letting you easily change a wheel :)
Thank you for your excellent music and lyrics...and the great photos much of which I recognised exactly where you were :)
Beautiful skies. Lovely video Nigel. Very nice to see the lambs and was that Daphne preening her feathers? Petra x
Yes it was Daphne and I think she might feature in more of them. Thanks for comments we had some amazing skies during February.
What a beauty !
Thanks, I had one. Nice restoration job
My father worked as a toolmaker at the vanden Plas firm in Kingsbury north west London for over 40 years
Utterly fantastic
SHEERLINE EXPRESS, was that actually a version of this? The SHEERLINE is my favourite limousine - and the fact it is called Nigel pleases me too, as that's MY name!
Hi thanks for your comment. It's not called Nigel that's my name. Colin who did the restoration was a work mate and was telling me about the project and I was a bit of singer/songwriter and the song started forming and I talked to him about his project and if I could write a song about his journey. The Shearline Express was a bit of poetic license as they say. But it is a beautiful car, so much style. Many thanks,
@@ournigethechronic mystery solved then!
Did you know there is an old film (perhaps an Ealing comedy) with Wilfrid Hyde White - called School For Scoundrels - if I've got the right film. Anyway, it's about a society set up by ex - cons, with a helpline for people to contact if they ever feel the desire to commit another crime. Trouble is when somebody rings saying they want to do a robbery , instead of trying to talk them out of it, the staff themselves get tempted, and join in! As a getaway car they use a beautiful white Sheerline!
Gee, its not really suitable for a getaway car. It's designed for minor dignitaries like load mayors to be chauffer driven to offical functions in. Hence the heavy body, to give a smooth ride, and the large amount of space in the back so the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress can sit in comfort. The engine, 4 litres, had a power output of only 93 kW. Since the car weighed 2 tonnes, that's comparable to a typical private car of the era having 47 kW. You're not going to outrun the cops.
Well THIS Nyge, (with a "Y" ) has always thought thought the SHEERLINE was Britain's finest hour!
Great cars. Very near to Rolls-Royce without having to pay such a price.
To Brent Fairlie except that in the film I just mentioned, where robbers do a "job" , they escape in a beautiful white SHEERLINE- but when the door slams it gives away the fact it's NOT a Rolls - Royce, and the door slams with an unfortunate hollow sounding "clang"!
It took me back to my childhood. There's a photo of 3yo me in front of Dad's old Sheerline. Actually, the old girl is still there, sans paint and upholstery, seeing out her days in a central NSW paddock. Shame, really.
My Great Aunt had a Silver One.. KAD 200. Reg.... When her chauffeur collected me I gave all my Urchin Mates the V Sign.. Through the back window... Happy Days.....
Great job on all counts, been there myself, 100% fact in those lyrics!😊👍❤
I didn't do the work but wrote the song and it's nice to know the words work for people, cheers David
I remember these when they were brand new. They still look good.
I wish that I myself had seen them when they were new!
Fantastic car, video and song. What an interesting story. Couldn't help thinking of the m.p.g on your 2000 thousand mile Norwegian trip.
My Dad had one of these when I was 5 circa 1967! the rear seat was huge!
Beautiful A125 Sheerline with a very rare ' 2 letter ' Great Yarmouth late registration that started way before the war and lasted well into the 50s, so few cars were registered there !.Great song and video !.
Thanks Roger . I was very lucky to keep my Great Yarmouth number as my car was off the road for 26 years and I really like it when someone notices where she is from . I have only ever seen one other EX ..
Good luck with the car Colin , she is beautiful and so rare and much more elegant than the later Princess models, I think they share very much the same ' razor- edged ' look as the contemporary MkV1 Bentley.Love also the ' Art-Deco ' dash, with the gold square instruments.I have seen a 1938 Austin Ruby with an ' EX ' mark, but a long time ago.The A95 Atlantic is another model I would love in drop-head form ! - all the best and many more happy miles.
@@colincummings6304 I wish you'd kept it all black like my Dad's car...I always thought as soon as I saw the two-tone, it was a wedding car :( Really nice restoration though Colin!
great restoration colin and great song nigel.
I did a google search for Austin Sheerline and the image at 1:50 of the polished veneer dash/instrument area was one of the results. Gorgeous car. The limousine version of it is a show-stopper, too.
Beautiful in every way...filming, music, restoration
+Alexander Karas ... Thanks Alexander ,, Sorry to here you had yours stolen that's really awful , what condition is the other sheerline you have ?
gorgeous !! KUDOS FOR A 1ST CLASS RESTORATION. I'm here in the USA and had to convert my '51 to a Corvette powerplant for a tv show back in the late 70's early 80'S called Wonderworld shot and televised here in Baltimore. The car would do burn outs and travel back in time. The car is gone now stolen and never recovered ( how the heck can anyone miss that going down the road). I still have its twin here in Baltimore waiting for someone to restore her. I thoroughly enjoyed the music and the ride down memory lane. Thank You Alexander Karas - Baltimore Maryland
+Alexander Karas that's awful having it stolen after so much work, love and care. I'm certainly glad to have revived a few memories for you. I did the easier bit of writing the song and putting the video together from Colin's pictures. I enjoyed every minute of it even though it did take a while. I may have another song about his restoration bubbling under. I shall let Colin know you've commented so I would think he'll post too. Many thanks Nige. Colin has a website too. austinsheerline.net
To Alexander Make you fit a tracking device to your present car so you can locate if THAT one is ever stolen
love the song and all the pic of our village x
I remember those floods and the pic you took. proud of you and good luck with all your new ventours x
