The Ultimate Notion Book Tracker - achieve your reading goals in 2025 with this template!
In this video I'm giving you a tour of my latest Notion template - I *love* to read and have been using this template for the last few years.
I've tried dozens of Notion book tracking templates and none of them worked for me - so I spent two years designing this one for myself and I think it's the best way to keep track of the books you're reading in the most easy, efficient and practical way.
I wanted a template that didn't make me perform useless tasks (I'd just stop using it) and that helped me collect the data that would teach me about myself as a reader, while also inspiring me to read more every day.
I use this to not only keep track of how much I read each month, but as a way to ex...

In this video I'll be showing you how I designed a musician's CV that really works for me. I've always found traditional CV/resume models way too restrictive, they don't account for the variety of work that we do, but I've finally found the perfect solution! Underwater clarinet: you must hear/try this!

This video is all about putting clarinets into water (I try Bb clarinet and then Eb clarinet) and then playing various extended techniques: flutter tongue, slap tongue, spectral multiphonics, you name it. I love this sound so much... Check out my previous video on water in the bass clarinet bell: ruclips.net/video/pXudzB4kjPI/видео.html Thanks for watching - please do subscribe to the channel, ...

Who needs a contrabass clarinet: this is PVC and a bass clarinet mouthpiece.

I mean, I definitely need my contrabass clarinet. But this effect sounds pretty fantastic and there's quite a lot you can do here with just a length of PVC tube and a bass clarinet mouthpiece... Thanks so much for making this . I'm a composer and was excited by Sciarrino's crazy piano music and violin scores many years ago . Best thing is what I can seal and earn from his advanced techniques . Now that I've seen your explanations I can confidently start investigating more wind techniques .
This template is pretty awesome! I can't wait to dive in ❤
Amazing! Glad you like it ♥️♥️♥️

Thanks for sharing! This is incredible
thank you heather was wondering about this
Great video! Thanks
Heather, I think we must be related 😅!
🤣
Does that work at flute same? I want to know that flute has the trill key(trick key).
Hi Heather, thanks for this amazing video which clearly states the extended techniques on clarinet. Is there a specific chart for multiphonic trills on the clarinet?
I've made one - if you Google my name you'll find my website and it's there under resources for composers :)
Are these multiphonics static in pitch related to A 440 ? I guees you can intonate them, can´t you ?
Somewhat stupid question of me since they relate to eachother so you have to pick anyway.
You haven't show the complete fingerings over the "keyboard" of the Clarinet, so your explication was not so clear.
Thank you (from Italy), Heather: your work and your talks are extremely precious!
🥹
fantastic stream, heather! hope you do more soon! 🙏
It was super helpful. It would be really awesome if this continued as a series. Thanks!
Great to hear - I had a good time, so I'll definitely do it again!
Have you used a balloon as barrel??
nooo, I've not tried that, but I'm not sure it would work, I think there would be no sound...
❤🥰
This is so beautiful
Great video. Do you think you could say what the fundamental of this particular length is? Seems like maybe between a concert Bb/B? But I'm having trouble discerning. I'm looking to get a length of tubing that will go to an A. I realize it will be some trial and error based on length. Thanks for all the resources!
Hi Liam - yeah tricky, I find it really difficult to work it out too... Bb/B sounds about right, I think?
@@hroche83❤
Is that an obo- oh.
Bored with the music I was getting in local community bands I recently joined a Wind Band. The first piece we were given - Malleus Maleficarum by Andrew David Perkins - starts with sustained second register quarter tones at absolute minimum volume. These come out (if you're lucky and you get any sound at all) as the intended note + a subtone from the vent+ breath sound + the bubbling of liquid in the mouthpiece with some other very faint harmonics. It continues with a pianissimo 2nd register/altissimo solo section. It's nice to be challenged!
Sounds like a really good challenge! (Btw if you're looking for more challenges to your clarinet playing that you're not getting where you are - I'm leading the clarinet platform on tonebase, which might be of interest to you - a mix of video courses with incredible clarinetists and community intensives/challenges/discussions!)
This made laugh out loud! I think you may be a little mad (which is a good thing).
Thank you so much for all your videos, as a young composer, this is brilliant, and also all the vids about multiphonics are wonders !
Glad you like them!
0:01 the clarinet literally said “water nrrg. HELP ME AHH WATerrrrrrrr….”
Is that a contrabass clarinet
it sure is!
thank you
Im wondering if you could resonate the instrument completely submerged in water. Like going to a pool and trying to play underwater. I have an old fiberglass clarinet i could try it with, but im also thinking the air needed might surpass my lung capacity.
Yeah I wonder if the holes being everywhere might make this impossible - like might work better with something like a trombone or trumpet?
Explains why people think squidward sounds terrible
I couldn't help wondering if you could string a guitar with it. An erhu would probably be easier. A general bass clarinet question: whatever happened to drip keys? I play bc as my main instrument and risk drowning in long band rehearsals.
You've got to keep using that swab!
Does this work on bass clarinet ?? :0
This is an unhelpful answer but: kind of
@@hroche83 I'm assuming the sound quality is diminished even more ? as well as loudness levels
Good evening. May you please tell me the length and diameter of the tube? Thank you. Best regards from Rimini. PS: If you come to Italy you will always be welcome guest.
It's 16cm long and 19mm wide! (that's the outside dimensions for the width there) - and thank you! :)
@@hroche83 Thanks a lot Heather!
sounds like an 808 when you do slap tongue
amazing comparison, I love it
Love this! I'd love to see an extension on the bell too! I bet the multiphonics go wild when that happens
That's a great idea!
Omg this is so cool, you're so cool!
Aw shucks *blush*
What is the difference between no. #7 and #20?
I'm think I'm in love with you... Amazing creativity
You are so kind
amazing concept and sound!!
Michael lowenstern is my favorite bass clarinet and composer in Brooklyn and I want to see him in concert in new york city this year!
And I spent all that money on an octave pedal!
I seem to remember a video of Lol Coxhill playing soprano sax underwater in a swimming pool. ruclips.net/video/rq3V-kciCWg/видео.html
Amazing!
Maybe this is part of why whales sound the way they do.
Nature's clarinets
I think I may use this in a composition I'm currently working on. Is that alright?
Of course! That's what these videos are here for :)
ok... this is going to sound crazy, but hear me out. You need a plastic clarinet with waterproof pads and glue and the ability to submerge much more of the clarinet into the water. I need to know what that will sound like even if it ends up being a complete failure.
not crazy at all, I'd love to know too!
I can see how these could be used constructively in a composition, especially if amplified - Zappa once got the didgeridoo player of the Ensemble Modern to play into a bucket of water but it sounded more like a bad case of the squits!
That's brilliant - someone else was telling me about this just this weekend when I was talking about making this video :)
What happens if you wrap your thumb and index finger around the open end of the pipe and use your other fingers to vary the opening size?
I can lower the pitch a tiny bit but it's really minimal since the opening is so small
Thank you, Heather! This answers my question I had when seeing your Bassclarinet Water in the Horn video.
Hi Heather. Thank you for this very helpful resource!!
I don't konw why RUclips recommended this to me... but I'm glad it did.
I know nothing about clarinets or woodwinds outside of what the average fourth grader who learned Hot Cross Buns on a recorder would know. I am equally confused and excited. Far out.
I love this. Welcome to a confusing and exciting space on your RUclips feed 🤪 we aim to please
This has mad potential for sound design, I'm gonna need some proper samples of this!
