I retired from my full time job of 25 years. As if this house/farm wasn't enough to keep me busy, I went out and got a part time job. This page is mainly electronics related, but I will occasionally add some mechanical work as well. Looks like now I will also add farm work and animals too. I'm still trying different cameras and editing methods to try and keep my videos as action packed as possible.
ICOM IC751A No Receive - FIXED
The old ICOM 751 is working. I'm sure it could use some cleaning, an alignment and other care, but for now it works pretty good.

Boxes of Icom Radios! Do Any Work?
Просмотров 2 тыс.21 час назад
I received some radios from my cousin. As if a bunch of radios was gift enough, these may not work. You know how much non-working radios mean. I have pretty much learned my way around Kenwoods. Am I up to the challenge of Icoms???

Browning Mark IVA Part 2
Просмотров 3233 месяца назад
This is kind of a long one. Sorry. I didn't want to make it more than two parts. I've been a bit busy this summer. I will put the Golden Eagle Mark IVA back together and cleaned up. It really didn't need a lot.

Lenovo T560 Backlit Keyboard Replacement
You are the MAN!! Thank you very much. I trouble shot to the mother board and was about to replace the whole thing. As you know, knowing where to look is 99% of a mother board battle. Thanks for helping me avoid a tear down and replace. 😅
Nice work!
Excellent
I enjoy following your systematic logical approach in troubleshooting.
maybe Im wrong but the slug is reading reflective power not forward power on the Bird 43 the slug is in the wrong direction. if you transmitting into a dummy load with 1:1 you would not show any power out with the meter in that direction just saying
Dummy load is to the left. Arrow is pointing that way. But unfortunately even the radio is showing no output. Thanks for the information though. Always good to have another set of eyes.
Loved my IC-751A. Actually all Transceivers with Quadruple Conversion Superheterodyne (AM/SSB/CW/RTTY). The IC-720 was a very nice one too
Your vid helped me install one, Thx
The last time I saw equipment like this, was on a soviet trawler,Boris.
Thanks for this demo sir.
Hello, sir! I own this radio, it works very, very well on FM, MW and LW, but very poor on Shortwave, even with 10 m wire aerial antenna. When I turn tuning capacitor, I receive weak reception until 21m band, no signal between 21-41 m band, and again weak reception on 41-49 m band. I have the schematic, but I do not know from where to start. I am a bit confused, because on other bands it works very well. I put some spray to clean contacts on SW, but no improvement. Which could be tha cause? Thank you!
Short wave definitely will require a better antenna setup than others. Try at different times of day or evening to rule out band propagation. It may come down to alignment of the radio. Take a look at any old capacitors too.
@@timtimeprojects3576 Thank you for your answer! I bet it is all about some capacitors, nothing about a better antenna. In my childhood, my grandfather was listening on a vacuum tube radio on shortwave radio Free Europe only with 2 meter wire antena and the reception was very good. I bet that not the antenna is the cause of poor reception in my case (10 m antenna). Probably I have to change all the paper capacitor?
Maybe for use with a SW transmitter, to ensure it didn't radiate too much unwanted noise or harmonics above the 30MHz range.
Good point.
Woah
Tim, my 746pro started turning on and off, now it will not power on at all. Do you accept work? I really would like to get this one fixed.
Very interesting
Thank you for watching. Keep warm. Oh, never mind.
Looks beautiful
great .. my 05 avalanche has a cone air filter on it . this shouldn't change anything right..
Someone watches alot of westerns and the bird hears it
Thank you great fix great video if there’s a way you could give us a little more tutorial on soldering PC boards I’ve cooked a few and could usesome instruction.
It's like playing bass guitar. Practice practice practice.... having good equipment and good solder are very important. Heat the work and let the solder flow. Keep it still until it cools. That should give you a nice shiny connection. Now, all that doesn't apply to playing bass.
FYI - If there is anyone left like me (Dec 2024).... By far the easiest way to get it working temporarily. The driver door open light shows in the dash when working correctly. When the dash goes out that driver door open light also is out. Power the car off (might have to hold the power off button in for a bit). Open the driver door. The door open light will not be showing. Leave the car powered off and start using as much electrical as possible (turn headlights off/on, turn emergency flashers on, turn interior lights on, push brake pedal) (that's all I have ever had to do). Eventually the door open light will come on and it is working again. It is a capacitor problem and I think this discharges the capacitor(s) and resets the problem (temporarily). I learned this from someone on YT but I don't know who so I can't give credit but I thank him every time it occurs. I bought new capacitors but would rather not have to go through this repair. I'll see how it goes. My 2007 Prius is awesome!
Good luck sir
Tim is this tracer a signal injector also?
What antennas will work with this radio?
Hi Tim, I have this exact chainsaw needing a new clutch drum kit for the chain. Can you please reference me a part number ?. I’ve tried searching and have had no luck!. Hope to hear back from you.
Thanks for the help appreciate it
Super filmik 💪🤝👍
As I understand it the Bird Elements are only good up to 2 times what they are labled for. That would mean that a 50 watt element is good up to 100 Watts Max ( Using a 2x multiplier) . The meter is also most accurate when used with an element rated close the power you are mesuring Meaning if you are measuring 25 watts its better to use a 25 watt element than a 100 watt element. Using the above information: Using a closely rated element and the 1x scale should give the best readfing, and the 2x should also give sufficiant accucurcy for most appiications. The 5x should be viewed as a rough mesurement.
what are you actualy doing?? just poking around you call that atroubleshooting?
Thank you for doing this video. Alway wondered about the effect of the 90 deg. connector. Now I know. Ok to use them.
Very interesting.
FYI. Thanks for taking the time to post this. Had the same exact problem. Same exact loose connection. Saved me $189 for a new opener and valued time. You rock!!!
I would pay you if you could help and old disabled vet to get these things so we could use them.
Thanks for your service. Because of the relationship between the radio, antenna and mounting options, it would be best to find someone close to you that could help with getting them up and running. The typical CB installation in a mobile would struggle with 10+ miles depending on where you live. Noise, atmosphere and obstructions will influence the performance.
I BOUGHT 4 of these radios and I cannot get them to work, for me and my kids who all live about 10-13 miles from me.
The CB radio band can be a bit tricky. The most important part, especially for "ground wave" is a good antenna system which included a good ground plane if one is required. I run the Antron 99 which doesn't require a separate ground plane it's up about 20 feet. The performance is decent. I don't have any ground plane antennas for CB to compare it to.
Thats exactly the same noisy pulse on 11 and 10 meter band. But my NB on the 10 meter radio not working as efective as yours.
👌Time to program! I have an MD380 and like it very much. Used to use it for DMR but reprogrammed it for just basic analog 70cm repeater and direct now.
Nice music. Good troubleshooting.
I had to do a voice over and was trying to cover up people talking in the background. I think I overdid it a bit.
Terrible music....good troubleshooting!
Nice job
You are the best!
so i have a a Kline ncvt-3p test it turns on for a second an i get a blue light a green light then a red light and it shuts off brand new batteries have u fixed this model before?
No, I am not familiar with that model.
Hi, I have an Alinco DR-605 and the display light doesn't turn on. Do you have any idea what it could be?
Sorry, I do not. Never tore into mine.
Thanks Tim.. I didn't see any cracks, but exact same symptoms. So just removed little more then half of the solder using copper de-solder braided copper and then re-apply a clean new solder joint to all the connectors on the transformer circuit as you show in your video and no more intermittent power. I am a amateur DIY'er and took me 30 minutes for the whole job. Solder Iron, solder and de-solder copper braid is all I needed.
What did you use for a nice shine on the radio looks great on camera Nice job
Thanks. I didn't use any thing other than a bit of soap and water. I did think about using some car wax though.
Love old CB radio.
Nice video
Thank you my friend.
I've got one too, and they work very well. Yes, they're actually bigger than the case inside, so they added an extension to the rear, making it extra long. I don't know why they decided on that case instead of using one with increased height to cram everything into.
Had TX on all bands apart from 22 to 28 on a ICOM 735, turned out to be a relay which was replaced. Then removed the PA board to check for dry joints and then refitted and now have no TX on any bands. Receive is good throughout. What could have coursed this? Many thanks....
I have that same radio, works great. Still all original. The only thing that went out is the light bulb, which I have no clue how to replace it. 🇺🇸
Well I know what I'll be doing tomorrow.
Did the check engine light turn off? 😂
Super filmik 💪👍
Thanks ❤
