McElroy's Motors
Добавлен 7 мар 2023
Hello and welcome to McElroy's Motors, home of the weird, the boring and the projects. This is not your typical automotive RUclips channel. My name is Nicholas McElroy and I have a passion for anything automotive as evident by buying a 1984 Trabant 601S...TWICE?!? I had two of my previous cars featured on other RUclips channels! I have had my 2004 Kia Optima on Zack Pradel's Shooting Cars and a 1991 Eagle Premier ES Limited featured on the channel Neighborhood Car Reviews, check them out!
I was diagnosed at the age of four with autism and a progressive form of cerebral palsy at Kent State University but even so, I love giving back by making videos so if you like vehicular purchases, road trips, history and anything related to having four wheels and an engine, you have come to the right place!

An Adventure To The International Spy Museum - 18th Annual Parade of Trabants!
As a Trabant enthusiast, I could not resist celebrating the fall of the Berlin Wall by going to the ONLY Trabant rally in the United States, held by the International Spy Museum in Washington DC. Was a zany, but very fun adventure!

Liquor store bro?
@@Wadhwakaran96 What makes you say that bro?
I share your incurable Teslaphobia! Hate the things. Congrats on the view count and here's to the continued successful growth of your channel!
@@iana6713 Ha! I thought I was THE ONLY ONE with this incurable virus spread out by Elon Musk. Thank you to you especially for being there right from the beginning!
@@McElroysMotors Hey, no worries - I still remember getting that first recommendation for a video about a guy and his yellow Trabi... When I see a Trabant, I click! Been interesting getting to see what you've been doing since then - a lot of life changes, (trust me I know about a few of those in my own life over the last year or so), and a few different cars. I really don't like Musk's posermobiles and I don't like the man. He's weird, and I mean WEIRD!
@@iana6713 It sure was great to see my Trabant in Washington DC. Brought some tears for sure! I definitely want to get it back at some point my life. My hospital bills are being disputed now so fingers crossed.
@@McElroysMotors Oh no, I hope that situation gets sorted out for you. I can't imagine what it must be like being billed for medical treatment - that's unthinkable over here. Best of luck on that one. One day you'll get your Trabant back!
@@iana6713 I am in Akron, Ohio, USA. Whereabouts are you?
Long time since I saw something like that!
Gas station sounds like a scam. They pre-approve $100 to cover most fill-ups. Then charge you the actual amount after that. Probably deposit the $100 for a short time just to earn fractions of cents. Times thousands of people. I knew those 100hp SLs were frugal, but 37 mpg. Wow!
@@johnsarian_cu Yeah, I did get my money back but needless to say, I will not be stopping at Rutter's in Bedford, Pennsylvania again. I should have carried on to Breezewood but my bladder was not having it.
I like my Taurus SES Wagon (2004), it is a former Duty Car from the US Embassy here in Germany, i think this is a good car 😏.
It's even the same colour as the Top Gear one! 😂
@@iana6713 It did not come with PLUM COLOURED upholstery and a stereo radio cassette THAT DOESN'T WORK as well as cruise control THAT DOESN'T WORK and an electronic sunshine roof THAT DOESN'T WORK but despite the small, niggly little faults, the owner got this BUCKET OF MAGNIFICENCE for 1100 of his pounds.
@@McElroysMotorsBucket of magnificence, indeed! The SD1 had such potential, but the build quality torpedoed them.
Good video, glad you got back ok.. Explains why you looked so tired today
The little Saturn never missed a beat, did it? My heart was in my mouth seeing that white Trabi with the blue roof - that's a 601S DeLuxe identical to the one I had. God, I miss the little goober! Kinda neat to see that Maluch too, (the Polski-Fiat 126P). And it's 35 years this year since the Wall fell.
Yeah, she made it there and back without any major concerns. Although, I found out what the "S" in Saturn S-Series stands for, scoliosis. My spine is still in DC. One of the Trabant owners in Virginia, Adam Beshaw, gave me his trophy that was awarded for the longest distance traveled in a Trabant. He thought I deserve it for battling my cerebral palsy and for what my Trabant went through, going from Hungary to Florida to Ohio to Michigan to New York then back to Ohio and now it is back in New York again. I miss my Trabant very dearly. It was great to see it at the show.
You're a trooper for travelling all that way, and I'm glad you had a great time despite the discomfort!
@@iana6713 The white and blue Trabi came from Apex, North Carolina.
@@McElroysMotors It sure brought back a few memories when I saw it!
@@iana6713 What year was yours?
Thank you for making this, allowed me to see it. I was planning on driving my Trabant from Minnesota to there but my work schedule didn't work out. Probably for the best given the low top speed and general safety.
Tricycles aren’t cool as kids they are definitely not cool as adults
That's your opinion, and it's clear you have not driven a turbochargeed one of these pushing crazy HP. Letting the back end slide out with ease is amazing! They are actually a blast! You should give it a shot!
What. The. Heck?!!! A three-wheeler that looks like it drove out of a sci-fi show?
@@iana6713 Ha! It is almost as if the Morgan 3-wheeler does the same thing!
@@McElroysMotors The Morgan is something else, isn't it? I've actually seen one of those and they're like nothing else on the road!
@@iana6713 It is the only "car" I can think of where the engine is LITERALLY on the outside!
@@McElroysMotors Yeah!
Have fun! It must be really something to see.
At least your new car still has a plastic body. I have a healthy fear of not having proof of insurance, my State Farm mobile app has my insurance cards on it and I also keep a paper card in the glove box and in my wallet. I'm so glad you can call it an adventure
The story about the cop is wild - you hear legends about officers of the law lying in court in order to get someone convicted of something, anything, but to actually witness it happen? I'm glad the judge saw through that guy's act.
@@iana6713 Tell me about it. I soon received a call from the judge shortly after this video was uploaded, telling me that the officer was indeed fired from his line of duty. Could not happen to a nicer asshole!
@McElroysMotors Now that's good news! Someone really shouldn't have given that jerk a badge in the first place.
@@iana6713 More good news is being uploaded right now!
Interesting!
I’ve seen a few of these, always catch me off guard 😂 I kinda want to get one
Those things are everywhere over here - I guess they're popular just so people can say they own a Range Rover, even though it isn't the full-size one!
I'm sure I've seen one of these recently.

It ain’t ugly no more when cars be copying style of divorced light
That Pontiac has some interesting looks...
You put a body kit on that thing and wow
Are you Agent 47?? 😮😮😮
No genetic enhancements for me. :)
Someone has really looked after that!
Believe it or not, I can tell you about two cars in the GEO lineup that gave a new look for the aging chevy cars. The Geo prism look was used to gave the caprice a newr look & the Geo storm look was used to give the camaro a newer look. After that, those two cars were killed by chevy & never got redesign.
When they have XR7 in the license plate you know they love that car I love car enthusiasts like this they keep this generation of cars going
@@ericerto8250 I am with you on that. It is cars like my Saturn and this Cougar that represent my childhood. Seeing one so mint makes me so happy.
I didn't know you could get any service nowadays for $50. Some shops are charging over $150/hr near me in NH.
@@johnsarian_cu My thoughts exactly. I thought I would be paying closer to $125-175 once all said and done.
Looks like that Saturn was kind of babied. Not many were. You're lucky to find it.
The previous owner and I got in touch. She is now 95, bought the car new after retirement of 35 years of teaching with just 2 miles on it with her husband who sadly is no longer with us. The Saturn was her Little Green Bean and it has never left Lorain County, Ohio all its life until I took ownership.
$50 well spent!
@@iana6713 Next thing is spark plugs. They have not been changed in 28 years.
@@McElroysMotors 28 years? Whoa!
You must be cursing that raccoon!
@@iana6713 Or did the raccoon curse me? 😏
@@McElroysMotors We may never know!
I am so sorry that the Trabi had to be sold, but as you said, sometimes you have to make a difficult sacrifice in order to free up money for something that is a necessity. I know that feeling. That bit about emissions testing being done on a county by county basis is nuts - we have it countrywide here. Good luck with the Saturn, as it looks like you got a good one - and it was nice to see that big ol' Lincoln again as it's such an impressive thing!
You got to drive a Lincoln from that era! Such a unique experience! #landyacht
Congrats on the car man!😊
My cousin may have seen that same Baja last week!
What block? I'm in Akron right now with a CLEANER white Lumina in Maple Valley.
I loved my citation
