John Smith drilling with Dave Schultz
This was two seasons before Cael showed that there was a better way…
Awesome material , thanks for sharing I’m glad I come across it
And how’d they do that season?
-curls are worthless and DON’T do anything to better you as a wrestler. -bench presses are worthless and DON’T do anything to better you as a wrestler. -stairs are essential and greatly better you as a wrestler.
What are some other things that work for wrestlers then?
@@Swavy_unknown777 -rope climb / pull ups -tire zercer carries / farmers carry: sled pull -assault bike
@jeff-hh9mc ok I'll give these a try thanks
This was shot at Walsh high school lol. I knew I recognized that wrestling room
Holy fuck, it’s scary to watch this…. I’m surprised no one gets hurt for real. They could really use a S&C coach.
You must be soft. That's why you're not a wrestler
They do get hurt. Iowa folks are almosy always beat up and underperformed after their first year with the program. See Real woods last night.
@@michaelbradley7621 then why do so many become national champs and all Americans in their last two years?
@@Asymmetrical.athlete_ Which national champions? Michael Kemmerer? Eireman? Marinelli? Cass? Real woods? Jared Franek this year? Spencer Lee is the only one of those potential/favored national champions to make it out of Iowa with a championship and we all know what happend to him in his last year. Every single one of those people regressed in their senior year and quite a few left as shells of their former selves. It's time for the brands boys to realize that they are doing something wrong.
@@michaelbradley7621 because it’s definitely not possible that they just underestimated people or made mistakes or anything like that…no way at all. Just blame the coaches…. Because it’s not like Tom and Terry have a bunch of national titles or big ten title or anything….nope just a couple of idiots over there 🙄
Lmao no wonder they show up at nationals busted up and wrapped up like mummies
Maybe stupid question. But what season you think they were in when doing this. Inseason, offseason or preseason? Would love to know. Thanks
That's just hilarious! Enjoyed!!
He was ahead of his time....LOL
I know they are obviously strong and well conditioning but how do they not get serious back problems with that jerky form?
Yes, most of them retire by 23 because of how beat up they are
This was filmed 10 years ago
Elite athletes can break certain rules that normal people can't without suffering consequences as often. In short, they're built better
Most of them do. That bad form and incorrect exercises screws then up.
I used to run up and down those stairs around the arena 3 or 4 times. Not a wrestler, am a pro bodybuilder but, man watching them do with db that's awesome. Good memories for me.
They could use a strength coach. Lotta heart but pretty crappy form.
The form they are using is framed to mimic movements they will use most in wrestling matches. It isn’t to build muscle- that said it seems like it would lead to back problems
@@billsimms2511 Bench presses don’t replicate wrestling movements.
@@baccaratfitness2360If someone is on top of you that wants to hurt you, do you pull?
@@criticalcerebral No I turn. Wrestling is a lot more pulling than it is pushing. I’m not saying there isn’t a place for pushing exercises.
My wrestling coach told me to watch this…
Huge respect. But the lifting form, Lads...please
this aint bodybuilding...they lift and jerk..its for wrestling matches
Jesus that’s beautiful! When would this have taken place?
In the video, the announcer said in the 1989 World Cup.
Hey Mike, I was just thinking about you so I came to this video. I never got to tell you goodbye. Didn’t even make your funeral. But I just wanted to say “RED ALERT!!!” I love you big Mike. Hope they buried you in the bottom position so you could fire out in a standup wherever you are now. Miss ya man.
Red alert
This guy is great 😂😂
Is this one of those spoof or gag videos?
These dudes bro, amazing wrestlers, and strong... but they are just straight checked bobbing on those curls 😂😂😂
@Tyelen Colón true but their firm is just asking for back problems
@@tyelencolon1228then there’s nothing gained if it’s not to get stronger.
Jesus. And that's just conditioning! They haven't even hit the wrestling room - yet. Is it possible they might be overtraining? Certainly the "law of diminishing returns" could be applied here. I do know that at least you've got to have some rest / light days in between this level of intensity.
All wrestlers are "overtrained" that's basically synonymous with the sport
There’s a mental component to this training. This is meant to build toughness and weed out quitters. Boot camp isn’t ideal either but it exposes weakness, similar concept
SUPER!
whats the bar dealy thing at 3:30 they use for the C and Jerk?
It’s called a log
Should just do a clean and jerk and that’s putting your wrist in the wrong position.
has sixpp or whatever produced national champs; I think Iowa wrestling is doing just fine producing well conditioned bad asses. And... "what kind of curls are those?" agonizing in a superset meant to simulate fatigue during a match----this is strength training for WRESTLING dudes, not bodybuilding
exactly
Just move the weight
somebody finally gets it. I like you Sean Redman.
Sorry for ask, but what season u think these guys were in when doing this kind of strength and condition?
@@kallelund4487from what I seen of their program, the off season or freestyle and greco roman time
i ran that whole entire arena, a total of 3 times separately. it was hell, also the stadium is way bigger in person.
wtf kind of bar curls are those. great workout and effort but they'd get better results with better form and technique. attention to detail
In wrestling it's just about moving the weight effectively not body building.
Better results? That team won an NCAA title that year. Form only matters in a weight lifting competition.
Samuel Gardner im well aware of that and i promise you that if they had better form even with small things such as curls, theyd dominate even a bit more than they did. just because they won a title doesn't mean that they can't improve little things, congratulations on making yourself look as ignorant as possible
Samuel Gardner lmao at what cost tho. alot of guys who wrestled at Iowa are fucked up afterward. to say that this is the most effective way of training is ridiculous
Samuel Gardner lmao at what cost tho. alot of guys who wrestled at Iowa are fucked up afterward. to say that this is the most effective way of training is ridiculous
Weak....eat guys.
you pull your opponent down to get the 2 point
so
how much food do they have to eat after this grueling training?
+kadijaish Like a bean, gotta make weight buddy. Jk, but weight making is the worst part of this whole deal.
Lol at the spotter at 1:53 in middle rack piece of shit ur jealouse of them cause they lift more so u want them to die?
The Dagastan of America
Dagestan is the Iowa of Russia!
❤😂😆🤣🤣🤣
Hey, I made this video! Sick.
they should learn how to spot
like you know anything about it
then you discover you've no longer any rotator cuff.....
Really? I've followed Iowa wrestling closely for 2 decades and know of none of their guys who had shoulder surgery.
Samuel Gardner matt mcdonough didnt place his senior year because of shoulder issues..... there 33 pounder now has shoulder issues. dan dennis has shoulder issues. should i continue?
Shoulder issues have many different causes, of which only one could possibly be injury during weight lifting. It is just as likely and plausible that he injured him self in practice or competition. If Iowa's style of strength training was in some way more dangerous we'd see a lot more of their guys missing time for the same kinds of injuries, and we simply don't see that.
@@apollo105yea
wait, was this all in the same fucking session?
Yeah. This is a pretty regular session for them.
tommypickles7 This is not too high of volume.
Tsirtsis' reaction at 3:38 is funny. Even joking around, it's hard for him to hear a comment about him getting beat. :)
Beast, only real men wrestle
You have to be in great shape to even suck on the mat. Its not a sport -- its a life choice.
darrell hastings Dayton Larson iowa wrestling is no joke. High school wrestling was demanding enough for me, and even if I was good enough for a school like Iowa I never would have done wrestling past high school. I will always love the sport but it was not for me long term. I respect anybody who continues doing the sport out of high school in no matter shape or form
