In World War 2 , subs took compressed air that was filled in oxygen tanks for breathing , which limited time under water. Today , modern subs use electrolysis , we're electricity is used to split water molecules into oxygen and hydrogen , allowing sub to distract oxygen from seawater for the crew to submerge for 3 to 4 months under water. Modern subs use machines called scrubbers to remove carbon dioxide from the sub. This man could explain this technology better , great tour.

Was going through the war diary of my great grandfather's unit (2nd division Canadian Railway troops) for remembrance day, here is the entry for the start of the battle of Messene: 6th of July 1917, Ypres: 3:12am "At this hour the party working on st Jean-Potijse road heard the terrific explosion to the south east, A forerunner of the offensive on that shoulder of the salient. the ground rocked and heaved for fully 5 seconds. This was the signal and was immediately followed by every battery in the district opening fire in unison. Enemy retaliation became general at once, though more distributed as usual. The st Jean Politijse road was traversed intermittently by shrapenel and machine gun fire. " "This was followed by a gas wave, forcing the men to stand by with gas respirators, and by the time it passed dawn had broken and the usual vigilence of the enemy for any movement in the vicinity was greatly increased making further progress [On the rail line] out of the question"

DD sailor 70-74. Food was always good but officers had different food than crew had. On the subject of seasickness -- with the possible exception of typhoon weather that went on for many days and very new guys, NO ONE was ever seasick, you become acclimated to the constant motion very soon.

Modern (post WW2) don't have wooden decks !

Dang! That's real neat. Did I say it right? I was born, grew up, & live in Fremantle, Western Australia overlooking the harbour. I can see the place where the U.S. submarines used to tie up during WW2, just 300 yards away. It is now occupied by the harbour tugs. When BB63, the mighty Miss came to visit, they parked it right outside my home, & what a spectacular sight it made. Thank you so much for this visual tour of the USS Wisconsin.

In 1970 I got a private tour of the Torsk when it was at the Washington Naval Yard. I was a Marine stationed at the Washington Navy Yard. I was wandering around one evening and walked up the gangway onto the sub. Suddenly a hatch in the deck opened and a voice asked what I was doing on the sub. After I explained who I was the gentleman who apparently lived on the sub as the caretaker gave me a complete tour of the boat. If that person happens to read this, thank you.
