"Kindly" is not Indian English, it is a bit old-fashioned but is perfectly normal US or UK English. In the US at least, it is used now mostly in formal situations involving a request made to a stranger.
@@maletu but it is overused by scammers from India and Pakistan
I like the effect.
Stay away from gamblin Whites. They yellow in a very short time. I stay away from anything Gamblin. Check the labels. For instance I buy Old holland Raw umber Pbr7. Rembrandts Raw umber is a mix of colors to make it look like Raw umber.
If your white has Zinc in it, it might be the Zinc. That is proving a problem with cracking and loss.
this may be a silly question , but couldn't the issue have been the white paint ( rather than the gel?) .. since it only happened with the white areas?? thanks so much for sharing your experience with the scam .. sorry it happened ..
Zelle is a common scammer's favorite. You tell them what you use. You don't let them tell you. This scam is not new.
Put blocks of certain scam words on your social media account. It removes 98% of scammers .
Is the cracking from fat over lean issues or just gel issues? Gels are fatty usually.
@@UncleJunior52 I’m pretty sure this is gel + titanium white mix issue
I put a 60 day hold on any refunds. That way it has tile to get to your bank. All these over payments are scams.
@@UncleJunior52 we lost $25k with our bank saying that all good. They can pull the money anytime even after 60 days.
@ wow that is crazy. Makes you wonder, Why have a bank ? Whose side they are on ? So you say Venmo won’t reverse funds?
Yes, the transactions in Venmo are a little bit different than in any other financial institutions. They will never released the transaction. When it’s done - it is done!
Gamblin clearly informs you not to add more than 25% of gel to your oil paint. Why blame the product for user error?
@@gingertunstall7739 if you can paint with the scale right next to you and every time you want to use the gel just scale it to make sure it is not more than 25%. I would recommend not to use it at all. Nothing is wrong to paint using just oil paint… it is actually dry fast
Vlad did say it was his own fault, that he used more than the recommended amount.
He said multiple times that it was his error, using too much! He is taking responsibility and has chosen not to recommend it, that is his right!
Hello Friends! I'm back in the studio and ready to rock-n-roll... working on a lot of ideas and will be posting soon. This episode was spontaneous just to share something that I just experienced. Let me know if you have any ideas or requests - will work on it. Currently, I'm in the process of finishing my business plan for 2025... which is very interesting - will share!
Vlad-how long do you think it took for your painting to crack?
@ this painting was done about year and half ago… and I. Pretty sure I look at this painting about six months ago… I was thinking to submit it to the show.. and the cracks were not there. So, I would say it started about 5 month ago.
@@openstudiod sorry that happened to you my friend! Good thing you had not sold it! I just finished a bunch of clouds and I used gel and Titanium White…I hope I did not use too much gel. Thanks for sharing and referencing your previous demo
Even though pigments are the same, some brands have different handling properties from gritty ,thick to smooth brushing. Also, poppy seed oil from blockx is 6 times more expensive than linseed and colours are less yellowing. Safflower oil paints are a different story as well plus their drying time is slower than linseed and poppyseed is slowest of all ...horses for courses. Not-so-oldHolland ( 1985) has a lot of hydrogenated castor oil which nothing like old masters paint. Neither Michael Harding's paint old master issue. If you want smack in your face colour intensity, try Langridge oils from Australia. There is Leroux from france to try for pigment- price ratio. With the economy tanking in europe now, you want to look at some european brands sales. Nikolai Fechin used mussini resin- oil paints for his layered mixing. If you do alla prima, just mix anything together. But if you glaze you better know what binding oil dries fast, mid and slow. You just can't chuck different brands together. Some brands like mussini and maimeri are formulated to dry evenly across the whole range of colours. This changes handling properties. Hence you had better know wtf you are doing...oils aint oils.Cheers
This was very helpful. Thanks for sharing.
Is masterclass a single pigment viridian?
Most people overthink this stuff. Just get affordable artist grade paint. Those Old Holland, Michael Harding, etc. designer brands have highly diminishing returns. Many of the greatest painters use/used what by today's social media bubble is called 'mid tier artist grade'. Richard Schmid for example used Gamblin.
One of the best discourses on the excitement and personal satisfaction of plein air painting. Charlie has obviously thought a lot about why paint, and why paint plein air. EXCELLENT! Also, his commitment to sketching is outstanding. We all should do more sketching. Thanks Vlad for sitting Charlie down at Plein Air Easton and giving Charlie the opportunity to talk about his personal vision.
Sketching pays enormous dividends!
A fine video about a Reasonably Fine Artist. Thanks to both Vlad and Charlie. The first time I laid eyes on a Hunter image my jaw dropped in awe. How can one interpret the dance between the natural and built environments so exquisitely? My journey in art is to explore the intersection of watercolour and mixed media in plein air. Charlie has me thinking; yes, I carry my sketchbook and mark-making tools wherever I go while seeking my unique voice that Charlie expounds.
Keep pushing your boundaries! So glad to hear you're carrying your sketchbook!
I bought my gamblin artist oil paints from Michael's because they often have 40% off making it so much cheaper than anywhere else
Great to see Stewart at work. Watercolour is so difficult in the studio, but, painting plein-air is a whole different proposition. I saw his website... a superb artist!!
I am amazed he's not wearing glasses, and that he does everything with only one arm. Puts my laziness to shame.
Wearing glasses would detract from my rakish appearance.
A nice video essay revealing why contemporary realism is completely dead and why highly skilled talented artists are resigned to workshops, teaching, and opening Ateliers. The Plein aire cult satisfied selling little works for 6-1200 bucks every few months. Church is vomiting in his grave.
Not dead at all! Who gives a fig where the big money is? Us contemporary realists can make a living without aristocratic patrons, without having to be a university teacher, without fighting for grant dollars, without having to compromise beyond teaching workshops (that bit is tough, although worthwhile). I think it's pretty much a golden age.
@@planetwarrior9980 - Sorry; I'm really not following you. In any case, happy painting to you, as well.
Thank you for giving us permission to be our artistic selves. Your advice is always spot on, and your paintings divine.
You bet!
I always seal the wood with 2 layers of Golden GAC 100 first, then I follow with 2 layers of gesso. I don’t bother to sand the gesso as I don’t mind a bit of texture.
I think Charlie Hunter is one of the top artists living today. I never stop being in awe of his vision.
This clearly was not written by Studio Cat Corduroy. If Corduroy had written it, it would have read: "I think Charlie Hunter is one of the most disappointing artists painting today. I never stop being mildly annoyed by almost everything he does." But I thank you, Barbara. It is appreciated.
oh my gosh he's amazing
Please tell that to the cats? I'd really appreciate it.
@@CharlieHunterArt Kitties, listen up, you're living with a master artist! Or shall I put it this way; Meow, meow, meow, meow meow meow meow:))
@@lahaza6515 - they MIGHT get that second way of putting it! ;-)
Vlad, this might be your best video yet, and not just because I love Charlie's work, ideology, innovative technique and outlook. Thanks for making this. Keep up the good work, both of you!
Enjoyed this very much- miss you crazy bastards
Charlie is right on the money! Great to see and hear this!
Thank you, Robert!
wonderful video. thank you Vlad and Charlie
Our pleasure! Thank YOU for watching.
Great contribution Vlad!
I love this! Thanks Vlad, thanks Patrick!
I hope you guys will enjoy this video. I respect Charlie a lot due to his views on Plein air movement, but mostly for his philosophical approach to painting. He is not just a painter simply rendering what he sees, but transforming his views of this world on the canvas his way. Enjoy!
Thanks, Vlad!
Nice style. Looks sepia. I couldn't tell if the bowl & paint was oil or water based?
@@Broody58 water-mixable cobra brand I think
I use Cobra water-mixable oils. Great paints - they are the same pigments as Rembrandt oils.
@@CharlieHunterArt whats the advantage? Drying time? I've never tried them. I have to read up on the process. Oil, water, I love oils, but also love the speed of acrylic. Its one or the other for canvas...( that I've been aware of)
thx so much for this wonderful video ❤
Thank you , what a wonderful pep talk for artists . I am heading to a plein air event tomorrow and I will try to tell a story, love that.
Hope the event went great, Holly!
That Lascaux stuff was painted inside - NOT REAL PLEIN AIR 😂😂😂
You are such a stickler, Patrick. It was raining that day, and Grog and Dub, the event organizers, said it would still count as plein air if Og painted inside the cave.
Wonderful!
Thank you! 🥰
Thank you for this video. Much appreciated.
Hey Vlad. If it’s not the right question to ask, why did you ask it?
@@SM-ie8gn what do you mean? The question of what is the best brand… I think I gave the answer…whatever is best for you
Just Amazing! I never thought I would try acrylics for Plein air but now my mind has been changed ! Thanks for sharing !
I have been watching several of your videos and notice that sometimes you do the under-painting with a knife and other with a brush. What determines what method you use? Love your videos by the way. I just ordered a easel from you and am anxiously awaiting it. The left handed one if you recall.
@@lw19309 ohh yes, I think we shipped it yesterday or today. Regarding the underpainting: why p-knife vs brush. If I know what I’m going to do with the painting I will use a brush to stay on the rout. If I want to deviate at some point based on where the painting will lead me I will use p-knife for the accidents that knife will give, plus knife will cover the surface much better and solid.
If you store your bottles upside down they will not dry up . I have done this for years with house paint especially oil based
I am talking about your mediums
You have mentioned "stickers" for the back of the painting. Can you please show what they need to have on them. Thank you.
@@lw19309 not much: just your first and last name Medium Size of the painting Extra line (for different use like price, ID, painting number, etc.) And your website address.

I am just getting into attending plein air events and have a question about it. How do you handle your panel after painting and putting it in a frame with it still being wet? Just curious how that works. Also, are you required to cover the back of the frame for these events. Thank you for your time.
@@lw19309 welcome to Plein Air circus! You just drop the wet panel/canvas into the frame and secure it from the back. The back is not required to be covered.
I don’t get where your sun is ?you have a sunset there in the back middle and then you said the light is coming from the right! .. so do you have two suns?
@@pleinaire8698 why to limit to only two suns… why not 5 or 10? It is not about the physics…otherwise I would you just simple digital camera or iPhone. It is all about painting!
Would you share where you buy your frames? Thank you so much.
Yes, Absolutely. I only work with JFM Enterprise... here is the link: www.jfm.net/ A lot of the best frames and selections and one of the best customer service. They are located in Atlanta
I about fell over when you said $6.00. Does it make a difference what part of the country you are in? I am in Central Missouri, and most people here will laugh at me if I charge that much. How do I change that culture?
Absolutely! You can change it with some investment that will move you to the other level of art marketing. It all depends on what layer of art industry you are in. If you are at the bottom you will be charging $1 per sq inch or even less. if you move yourself to a higher level/layer you will start charging more. Stay tuned... I'm working on the video expalining this exact problem.
