Doge potential new account haer
Cool. I haven't tried this one yet.
That was interesting. Sheogorath talks about this in Skyrim when you go into the forbidden wing of the Blue Palace. It was neat seeing it play out. Have you come across Stanley, talking grapefruit in Passwall he mentioned?
Haha I'll have to look into this Stanley thing. If that's a thing, I missed it. Never thought I'd see a dragon in Oblivion. Pretty epic conclusion.
If you do the expansion Knight's Of The Nine before you finish the game, the 51st gate spawns behind the K9 quest hub
I did the Knights of the Nine questline (I think) but I missed a gate spawning at the quest hub. I haven't gone back there since.
"Cainis fought bravely against that bramble but it was just too much. He will not be forgotten though. He shall be forever remembered as 'The Bramble Buster'." Tiber was an aspect of the Lorkhan (Shor)-Akotash duality as was the Dragonborn in Shyrim. That is why the throne in The Hall of Valor was empty. The whole thing is quite vague, intentionally so.
I wonder if Tiber Septum or Talos is mentioned at all in Morrowind. There hasn't been much info on him in Oblivion but then again, I haven't been reading all the books. I'm sure there's some lore if I look for it. Clearly he plays a much bigger part in Skyrim because of the whole banning Talos worship thing.
That purple portal swirly thing when you look down, is probably from your backpack.
In the game, you enter the facility in the desert (I'm thinking it is Australia) and now you end up on a snow covered mountain. Pretty cool to think about.
It's a big change of scenery. With teleportation, you can go anywhere.
I was thinking that when you died in your bed (toward the end of the episode), that your backpack would be in the dream world....🤣 Be funny if it was.
It's December 21, 2024 and you seem to be growing pretty quickly. Just a week ago or so, I subbed at 837....now your at 905! Right at that 1000 mark! Congrats!!! It's said the first 1000 is very hard and they come quicker after.
Thanks! We're approaching 1000 but it will still take another month or so. It feels slow for me but yea, I think the first 1000 is by far the hardest. Thanks for your support.
The mansion of whackiness! lol. Great episode. Thank you for posting.
Someone has way too much money and not enough hobbies. 😄 Imagine having to climb a rope through a door in the ceiling to get to the restroom. 😮
The cult of Dagon goes back to ancient Syria and Mesopotamia. The idea of Mehrunes Dagon being the Lord of Change in the Elder Scrolls is probably from the Mesopotamia cult where Dagon was considered the god of kings and determined the change in rulership of the realm. Various authors have adapted Dagon into their works, the most famous being H.P. Lovecraft. The cult was also in the second movie of the original Conan series. There were supposed to be three Conan movies but the second did so poorly the third never happened. The second movie was dreadful so no surprise there.
That's some interesting info. I didn't recognize the name Dagon rom any actual myths. And I saw the second Conan movie but, like you said, it was terrible so that's probably why my brain has shut out any details from that film.
Hey do you edit your own videos?!
Yep.
Crazy lady has a grudge against Kynareth for some reason. I wonder what the backstory is about this character. Maybe she escaped from the Shivering Isles.
I have so many questions for her but it doesn't look like Bethesda didn't give her much depth. It's a fun character to run into though. Something different.
watching you play Thief the correct way is never boring. Too many first timers don't get the way the game is meant to be played and it turns into a frustration-fest
Good to hear! I think it helps that I was gaming heavily in this period so it's pretty easy for me to go back to that mindset. I think that helps keep it from being frustrating.
loving the series!
Glad you're enjoying it! There's still a lot left to do in this game so I'll be at it for a while.
Yeah, Necromancers are whinny snowflakes. Always complaining about something.
There has to be a necromancer out there who isn't outright evil, but I haven't found them yet.🤔
When I get to a new area, I set up a base immediately. Then make a teleporter for that base. In the hydroplant, it's setup at the bottom of the road after the security guy. Seems to be a good spot. Several rooms there, easy access to the tram and access to the area without that sniper getting me.
It's in this room at 34:13.
Using multiple personal teleporters to teleport around like that is a good idea. I'll probably try that. Quick way to get around since you can bind the teleporters to different work benches.
I have all my stats at 500 except for strength I have at 2,800 by level 2
That's... suspiciously high. 🤔
@bigvladgaming yeah I play for fun now use the exploits in the game
The way I avoid the reaper is when my light starts flickering, I get in a corner or behind something and crouch. He walks right by me!😁
Haha I guess that works. I tend to just run as fast as I can and hope he doesn't get me.
I know this is late, but I just got back into the game. Last play was before Crush Depth (I guess back in September). I ran around for 30 minutes, trying to find how to get into that last room with the thing to break. Never did find it, soooo....thank you! I can now advance my game. Also, I'm really enjoying your playthru. Nice, calm, laid back game play. You have another sub. And again, thanks!😁
Thanks a bunch! Glad to be of help. I love this game and can't wait to get back to it. There have been a few minor recent updates so I'll probably play more soon.
The idea of this game is interesting, but the execution is terrible. Most of the game is wandering around in buildings and snow that all look the same while you do absolutely nothing. This game would have never been made today, at least like this.
All that running around was intended to be moody but yea it's not a great game. The big selling point of this game is it's supposed to instill a sense of distrust in your companions (like in the movie), as they can turn on you at any time. Problem is it seems like their deaths are mostly scripted events anyway. And the blood test kits are useless because if someone is a 'thing', I want them on my side as long as possible to help fight. I don't want to activate them, so I'm not using the kits. It's a flawed game, but I'm still having fun with it though.
Totally disagree, nothing wrong with the "execution".... Great remaster all around, this is how it should be done
Any chance you'll do a Let's Play for Thief 2? If so, I'm down to watch.
Yep! I bought it already. It was on sale for like $2 on GOG a while back. I got Thief 2 and 3. I hear 3 has problems, but I want to go through it as well.
@bigvladgaming Thief 3 is pretty good. It completed the story well. Thief 2014 is trash, though. It's a Thief game in name only.
There's o power in security (not sure if it can be turned on) but, there is power in the other realm. At that bench/cabinet looking thing. Think I may setup a small outpost there.
Thanks. I haven't touched the game in a while, but I'll be getting back to it pretty soon. There have been some recent updates.
"I used to think..." You will never live that down. Haha. Evidently there are only a handful of these quests that lead you into the final couple of Black Hand quests. The radiant quests follow after you finish all these quests.
Yea everyone is so mad at me cause I'm not some kind of paragon of virtue. 😄 Literally everyone! Thanks for the tip about the Black Hand quests. I think it will be pretty obvious once the radiant quests start popping up.
You build a dock on each Island and then you can go there, get what you want, and then go back to your main base.
I did that eventually. This is pretty old so I'm sure if I'm at that point yet in this video.
Glad you finally gave your water arrows a chance. They're among your most useful tools.
They're pretty great. I've been playing with more of the tools available and they're by far my favorite.
press and HOLD the use button when using your lockpicks. Also rope arrows would help traverse heights.
Oh, I'm supposed to hold the use button. 🤔 I'm pretty far ahead now but thanks for the tip!
@bigvladgaming it'll make your lock-picking life much easier and the "handle jiggle" described in the instructions will make a lot more sense.
@@bigvladgaming have you tried the rope arrows?
@@HHCLS Yes I tried the rope arrows in the next mission I believe. I can see how they'd be useful now.
Flinn is a drink popular in Morrowind.
That makes sense. Must not be as popular in Cyrodiil. Haven't seen it around.
That was an abrupt ending.... lol. So many shady things going on! wow Thanks for posting.
Joining the Remnants better be worth all this trouble. 😄
The party is right out of the Clue game, which was based on a party game in England. It also has similarities to Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None novel.
The difference is that I'm the murderer, while everyone else is playing Clue. 😁 It was a pretty fun quest.
This really can't be called a quest. It was just too simplistic, especially at your level. Thankfully, they fixed this in Skyrim. You should have had to set up the guy, planting skooma on him and making it look like he was secretly a skooma addict that got his due. Honestly, there was nothing here that could really be called a quest. You didn't have to do anything outside of finding the house and killing the guy.
A lot of quests in this game could be improved by adding an extra step here or there, or by giving me a chance to do a little detective work. There's not much of that here. The Shivering Isles had some interesting quests though.
love the vids! keep them coming!
Thanks for the encouragement! Daily (for the most part) Oblivion vids will continue until it's finished!
Thief Gold was built using the Dark Engine that Looking Glass developed in-house. You can tell it borrows from Quake and Unreal. The engine didn't go very far and was very limited in its capabilities. That is why the levels are so sparse. It could only display 1024 polygons.
They probably had to use an in-house engine for the unique mechanics included in the game. Not too surprising. It's not a very pretty game, even compared to other games of that era, and that's probably due to those engine limitations. It does what it does well, but I'll bet the engine isn't very flexible and wasn't used much outside of the first two Thief games.
Yes, asking the chef for combat training is a great idea. Those chefs are super skilled with butcher knives... **facepalm** You never even thought about asking actual warriors, did you ? Ridiculous....
You're new to video games, I see. 😄
Anyone know how to produce fiber?
You can't produce it. Random merchants on the road will sell it from time to time, and keep searching garbage sites as often as you can. Also visit scavengers in towns when available. That's where I got most of mine.
Thoroughly invested in the stories! Great episode. Thank you for posting. (watch your bottom, lol)
Lots of nasty bugs out there. My daggers are at the ready!
Hire a better front counter guy
They're much more expensive than the one I'm using.
They should remaster 1,2 and 3. Amazing games.
I'm surprised they haven't been remastered yet. Nightdive Studios should get on it, right away.
"Poetry is thoughts that breathe and words that burn."
It's beautiful. 😁 I would have loved to have read some mad poetry. Cool location.
One of my favorite games.
I've been having a lot of fun with it so far!
Pretty good fighting. Had to level up more for these fights
Fighting multiple mobs at once is pretty tough. Makes it hard to maintain a good rhythm.
So, if you are Sheogorath than it must be you in Skyrim.
Haha could be. I'm really not sure how all this works out lorewise. The Sheogorath here acted a lot like the Sheogorath in Skyrim, same personality, so maybe he came back. Or just being in the Shivering Isles makes me go mad as well.
@ 4:40 Sometimes it pays off to listen to guards or other NPCs when they're chatting. In many cases it'll just be somewhat humorous, but you may also overhear useful information relating to the mission. @ 12:10 Odd...I seem to safely remember always knowing what I picked up. It should've shown somewhere. I wonder if the adjusted aspect ratio cuts off some info text. You can hear whether you picked up valuables/money or helpful tools by the accompanying sound. The high ringing sound is the first, the lower "blim" is the latter. @ 17:34 Placing a body in a location where other guards can see them will eventually put the entire place on high alert, making the mission more difficult going forward. Also, no, unconscious bodies won't wake up during the remainder of the mission...sadly. 17:46 - "Got some more money, I assume." No, that was the low "blim" sound for some tool. @ 23:06 Your instinct here wasn't bad. The mission does have a secret pathway. It's not here, though. @ 29:47 - "Are those supposed to be wolves in the background?" No. All of the slightly musical sounds in the background are just ambient music, but with a bigger focus on atmosphere than music. Eric Brosius composed all of those tracks and I'd say they are probably the biggest contributor to Thief's brilliant atmosphere. @ 33:30 You got very lucky there. The blackjack generally only works on guards that aren't alerted yet...but...there's a very brief moment of surprise during which they can still be knocked out. Same doesn't apply to alerted servants and other staff. They can be knocked out regardless of the state they're in. @ 37:17 - "I don't have to escape." Ya, that's the low difficulty setting. Personally, I find that immersion breaking, which is why I never played on "normal". On every setting above that, you need to escape from the location.
Thanks for all the info. I changed difficulty to hard starting with mission 4. It's been fine so far.
Is ther a way you can expand the store like make it into a supermarket,(this is springy boy btw i just changed my avatar)
Nope this is limited to cards and adjacent hobbies like comics, board games, etc. It doesn't really expand beyond that.
Quite the stories in this game. Great episode. Thank you for posting.
Mods...i wish this was really vanilla
It's all official Bethesda stuff that came with the game. I'd consider it vanilla but if you don't, that's cool.
This game is a masterpiece! Late 90's early 3D graphics hold a special place in my heart, they're still very appealing to my eyes as I remember when they were state of the art. Mechanically I love this series (up until the underwhelming "reboot"). Stephen Russell's voice acting is PERFECT.
It's been a ton of fun so far. The graphics don't bother me at all, and thankfully the GOG version adds widescreen resolution support. The narration between missions is great! Wasn't expecting a speaking protagonist.
One of my all time favorite games. I played it several times when it first came out. Yes, I'm aging myself. I recommend upping the difficulty just a bit to get you more objectives. It really enhances the game play without it becoming too difficult.
Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't know upping the difficulty gives more objectives. I'll try that for the next mission when I record again!
@bigvladgaming you're already doing one of the added objectives by not killing. Another important one is getting out after collecting your bounty. There's also objectives for collecting a minimum amount of loot which promotes exploration and finding secret areas. Also, as a final note, your loot does NOT carry over from mission to mission so collect all you can and spend it all on the next level.
@@HHCLS Thanks for the info. I started playing on Hard difficulty on mission 4 I believe. I was afraid it would affect things like enemy detection but it doesn't appear so. The loot requirement is fine since I enjoy exploring anyway.
I know everyone raves about this game but I didn't care for it much. It was just tedious rather than interesting.
I'm not normally into stealth games so it's a bit different than what I usually play (which is why I skipped it in 1998) but I always find it interesting playing these older, popular games for the first time. I think I was too busy with Quake 2 at the time to do much else.
