We Wear the Mask by Paul Laurence Dunbar # minor CULTURAL STUDIES
We Wear the Mask by Paul Laurence Dunbar is a poem about the oppression and sufferings of Black Americans. After the American Civil war, it is believed that the Black Americans will get equality and opportunities just like the Whites,but the condition remains the same as earlier. The poet says that they are in fact hiding their emotions and bleeding heart. The poem is having 15 lines and 3 stanzas. The 1st stanza has 5 lines, 2nd stanza has 4 lines and 3rd stanza has 6 lines. It's meter is lambic Tetrameter.
