I’ll be there, hope there’s good stuff this year, more stuff I don’t need
@@Thomas-ZET Great! Well if I get there I’ll say howdy! Trying to get some of my non ham radio buddies to go. Trying to introduce them to this great hobby.
Looks spectacular, but does the the RF gain control work or is it a pile junk like the ic7300 that I have . The 7300 is very noisy and the rf gain control does nothing to to reduce rig noise ?
@@robduncan599 hmmm.. good question. I wish I knew the answer
Cool, always been a goal of mine to work them, when get around to upgrading my license someday.

Milan Colby patron saint of ham radio !!. How did that come about. Just looked him up. The Catholic Church venerates him as the patron saint of amateur radio operators, drug addicts, political prisoners, families, journalists, and prisoners. If I pray to him will my 572B's last longer. Good grief. 🤪

It seems that Christmases past align in a lot of our lives with radios past, as the people who made an impact in our lives were often part of both. And quite often when it comes to radio, that was indeed an uncle. Their keys and microphones now silent, but always remembered. As far as the radio waves that they modulated themselves, who knows? Every Christmas they are one more light year away from the Earth, the ones that escaped the ionosphere as some certainly did, and theoretically: Someone could be still hearing those voices, the very ones that still play in our own heads! With my own kids and grandkids, it's quite a regret to me and sad that they will never have the opportunity to meet my own uncle. Or my grandparents for that matter. But as we make new memories with them at the table and around the Christmas tree, we must remember that they indeed are also making their own memories of Us! Merry Christmas to Ham radios everywhere, and Goodwill towards men. All the best! 73, DE W8LV BILL.
@@w8lvradio excellent post! Thank you very much for your words and you have yourself a very nice Christmas and great New Year. Thanks again.😆

There needs to be more Catholic ham stuff out there. Catholics can organize really well.
Well, I’m starting to think that may be my mission for ham radio. I’m gonna see what I can find out about Catholics on the Air. There’s plenty of Evangelico and Methodist's but don’t see too many Catholic things going on. I’m gonna give it a try when I get on the air. Thanks for the comment. Hmmm.. .”Catholics On The Air” well, there’s the name!

Very cool information, have a great day
I have an HQ-160 with a similar manual. They are similar in style and format to the old Heathkit manuals, where they thought everything through before putting it together to make a user's manual that included large, clear schematics with important voltage points listed, and a theory of operation of each circuit stage, plus a BOM that often included component source info and sometimes acceptable substitutions. Nowadays companies just tell a minimum wage intern to do a few screen-grabs of the touchscreen, with an arrow pointing to a knob and text in Chinese (that if you can get translated says 'KNOB',) and post them on the company website, leaving the hams themselves who bought the rigs to translate, reverse engineer everything, decompile code, figure it all out, fix the firmware and hardware bugs, embellish the firmware, create schematics, and block diagrams, create an organized list of commands and function buttons, and then play Elmer and post articles and RUclips videos about it, all for free. No wonder they can sell an HT for $20. As for the HQ-160/170, I learned how to make all these adjustment subconsciously when I was a kid with a Hallicrafters SX-25 beneath my bed that I tuned by feel while lying in bed on cold winter nights. Pretty much the same controls and functions, just positioned differently.
@@johnwest7993 wow excellent information here. I really appreciate your comments. Yes, I agree. The old gear is awesome. The manuals are top-notch. You should see the stack of paperwork I have for the DX 100 Heath kit. It’s outstanding. Love the old gear when I’m ready to fire it up and work on all these old radios that’s gonna be a fun time. Thank you 73.
One of the most common dreams is that this radio will work over the Internet. According to Icom, it will work with the base unit and control head on the same wired LAN. Icom also said that performance will be poor over WiFi. Don't expect Internet connectivity between the two; that's what RS-BA1 is designed to do. Yes, I hope to test it for myself and maybe prove Icom wrong, or right, whichever.
Great Comment! thanks
