I am an angler and ghillie in the Highlands of Scotland. I use my Eos 5DIII, iPhones and GoPro to try to capture the ambience, fun and enjoyment of my fly fishing experiences, within the stunning landscapes in which I am privileged to fish. All the salmon are landed in my McLean weigh net, where they recover before being released. Loki, a Hungarian wire haired Vizsla, was a regular fishing companion on my adventures.

Always great craic with local anglers Bob and Gary. Whenever they are on the river, you know there’s a really good chance of a fish or two and this August day was no different, with 3 salmon to the net.
River was standing at plus 6” on our own gauge, which equates to plus 1’2” on the SEPA gauge at Ness Side. Water temperature was 15 degrees and air temperature was 16 degrees.
Bob’s winning fly, a 3/4” copper tube fly, was fished off a floating line with a 10’ intermediate poly tip and a 15lb Maxima ultra green tippet.
Once again, covering the pool was key to success.
Happy days 😊

The glorious twelfth got off to an absolutely torrential start, with regular visiting angler Pete and I doing the sensible thing (for once) and taking shelter in the hut until the worst of it was over. No point in risking a lightning strike for an extra five minutes fishing! In relation to the actual river conditions when we arrived on that August morning, it was standing at plus 12” on our own...

A really enjoyable day on the river for me, with one of the most accomplished young anglers that I’ve ever had the privilege to ghillie for. The footage pretty much speaks for itself but I’d like to emphasise how cool and calm Maisie remained when playing both her salmon. Her line management was impeccable during both scraps. Definitely a day to remember for Maisie and a very proud day for her ...

Another bar of silver. Well done. How far are you from the sea? They seem to be all bars of silver. Not a red fish among them.
Many thanks for your kind words Brian and absolutely spot on with your observations. The lower reaches of our lowest beat (Laggan) sit around 5 miles from the sea and are located 4.5 miles upstream of any tidal water. This video was shot on the 13th of August and it’s probably around that time of the year that we begin to pick up fish that have either been in the river for a few weeks or perhaps there’s even a resident fish or two, on the go. You’ll see from the remaining videos that the fish do show signs of having been in the river for a while, once we get to the beginning of September but until that juncture, everything we land, is very fresh. Not bad at all when you think that the season has been open for eight months, until that point. We are very fortunate indeed.
Great job Bob! You are my kind of angler...your salmon is barely released and you are already in quest for the next one!!! Tight lines to my Scottish friends! Mike
Many thanks for your kind words @@harleyhillgang very much appreciated. Atlantic Salmon are never alone, so it’s great to hear that kindred spirits are fishing for salmon around the globe, in exactly the same way! Tight lines <*}}}}}><

Fantastic fish! Netting it was not without drama !!😂👌
😂🤣😆 You couldn’t make it up Jim, a hole in the bottom of the net that a 17lber could and ultimately DID swim through!!! Laurel and Hardy don’t have a look in 😂🤣

Many thanks for your kind words again Gary, very much appreciated 🙏❤️🎣
What a beast of a fish. I think it had seen you before, but you netted it 3rd time lucky. Well done Richard and well done to you for netting it,
😂🤣😆 It was definitely third time unlucky Brian! On the first occasion, thankfully, I spotted a large hole in the bottom of the net that I knew the fish would get through. My attempts to carry out a mid filming repair were thwarted by the force of the river and the weight of the fish, as the hole did eventually open up and the fish did actually fall through the hole in the bottom of the net! However, all’s well that ends well, I suppose 😀
@CameronChapman That's the skill of the gillie.

Also, we get the cameo appearance of your ghillie...a chap by the name of...oh well I forget...its not important is it??? LOL-Sorry Cameron, I just had to get that one in...as always, I love keeping up with your adventures! Mike
I always go fishing after a cold shower in the morning Mike, it definitely wakens me up! For me, it’s all about the angler and their fishy experience, it’s not about me, especially since I have a face for radio, that even the salmon shy away from! Thanks once again for your kind words, you k ow I really appreciate them. 🙏❤️🎣
A lovely what I think was a hen fish. It gave a good account of itself and was well played by Pete and of course, well netted by you Cameron
Spot on Brian, definitely a hen fish and an absolute bar of silver. It looked way darker in the video footage, especially under the water, no doubt as a result of the very heavy cloud we had that day. Many thanks once again for your kind words, much appreciated.

Always like to see a forward bow on that rod! Good Times!!!! Well done Murray! Cameron, love the "peek-a-boo" vid at the 3:30 mark...well done! Superb underwater shot of the release....Murray, this fish will bless your fly again! Mike
Many thanks for your kind words Mike, I really appreciate them. It was incredible to see how well lodged in the weed that tippet was and when Murray described it as’, solid’, I felt compelled to attempt to net the salmon in that position, or to attempt to dislodge it from the weedy snag. Thankfully it all turned out well and I captured a good underwater peek at what that sneaky salmon was up to!
