I have fears about a few things: (1) the tone of the original show was a great blend of comedy/drama and I’m afraid that aspect may be lost to new creators/writers; (2) the rules of the universe were broken at the end of the series and I think that’s a hard world to come back to (it felt complete). Those being my main 2.

I just hope it’s not going to be one of those elongated-feeling Netflix/Hulu/Prime shows where the plot moves ever so slow and the tone is either too quirky or too monotone like a lot of those shows are on these streaming platforms. I hope they continue the show like how shows back in the day were on television like “Buffy” and “24” where the not only is the season premiere and finale epic but so is the overall story plot in between and not just underwhelming speed of conversation and no action, foreshadow, easter eggs, etc. I wish them best of luck!

this is the best opinion so far. most people are either "yaaay, f Joss Whedon, Sarah knows better" or "there's nothing you can do". But the possibilities are exactly how you described them

I have no expectations for a sequel, whatever it may be. I mean, even if Whedon were involved, it still might not work. He had a great continuity of ideas for the original movie and then the TV series, which, admittedly, had to be broken a few times, especially because of Spike. He may not have that continuity now. But in the end, if what they do is at least okay, it will be good for the fandom as a whole. Because it will revive and maybe even increase interest in the original movie and the TV series. Maybe even start releasing comics again, including new seasons of Buffy, where we got so many great moments that we never had in the TV series. If I were in charge, I would just adapt a few of the most interesting comics. Of course, there would have to be a preview that briefly explained the lore of the universe and the characteristics of certain characters. That is, we would need screenwriters to adapt the comic book plot to the screen, great actors, cinematographers, editors, sound engineers, etc. Everything is like in normal films. Of course, we have to involve other actors in the characters. It's been more than 20 years, some actors have died, some are physically unable to play because they are already many years old. I recognize SMG's contribution to Buffy as an actress, but I don't think she would be a great screenwriter or even a producer.

most people who really dislike Xander are females and most people who like Xander are males who relate to him. The reason is very simple. He's very REAL. Spike or Angel f.e. are supernatural creatures with a supernatural metamorphosis, most of the time they need a special approach, they aren't regular dudes. But almost every girl, myself included, knows at least one Xander irl. And boy, don't we recognize the type. Forever friendzoned, bitter, hypocrete, judgemental and full of deep insecurities

The season was the beginning of the show’s peak and a true work of art of opulent television!!!!! I love and agree with your comment with how Angel’s turn also “turned” the show so-to-speak. While Innocence is the more praised episode, I believe the combination of both SURPRISE and INNOCENCE truly memorialized the show’s identity and the season continued to revel in it’s epicness with two great follow-ups, the episode PASSION and the combination of both parts of BECOMING!!! I truly hope you do a video on both PASSION and BECOMING in the near future!

Honestly, I could never hate Xander. I just get disappointed in some things he says and does. It hurts my heart when he's judgemental of Buffy for Angel and Spike. I know why he is that way, but it hurts. I also think he treated Cordy like crap even before he cheated with Willow and he gets pretty mean to Anya sometimes. Then there's that ,"Well she's dead." about Jenny to Giles of all people to say that to. I let the earlier season issues go a lot easier because he was young. When I get my most frustrated with him I just remember. "Hey, black-eyed girl." and "You're not special. You're extraordinary." and I suddenly can't be mad at him.

Well, Targaryen's family tree does not have a lot of branches. Viserys' and Daemon's parents and grandparents were siblings. Also, Aemma (Viserys' first wife) was their cousin. So incest was not a problem for Viserys. Only Alicent seemed to be offended by it. Viserys was angry because he thinks that Daemon doesn't love Rhaenyra and wants to marry her to get the Throne.

I adore Anya, and Xander's "prophecy" that she's going to die doing something stupid, the "stupid thing" she dies doing is saving Andrew, someone who himself needed both vengeance and serious redemption. And Xander was so proud that she succeeds in fulfilling her choice to return and fight for those she has come to love. Even if he doesn't like Andrew, Xander sees it as a worthy sacrifice for her to choose. (Yes the attack came from behind, given the choice I'm sure she would have preferred life, but since she doesn't get that option, dying protecting someone else, even Andrew h3ll especially Andrew...,) On that note I don't suppose you'd be willing to do an Andrew video? If you have already I will continue my hunt.

Cordelia was wreaked in the series because the actress wouldn't get rid of pregnancy Joss found inconvenient. That was a long way from the only thing Joss did, but it was the worst thing he did both for the show and the actress.

Also, I just thought you were missing a video about two characters -- Spike and Buffy. The first deserves it, but the second is simply not properly represented in the series. Despite the fact that Buffy is present on screens for 7 seasons of her series and at least twice in Angel + comics, we really don't know much about her. We are represented through other characters, but almost never as herself. What are her thoughts on certain events? Why should we really guess about this?

The same can be said for Spike. Despite the fact that he made it to the finale and died a heroic death, what do we really know about his present? Dawn, Anya, Tara, Spike -- they're all not Scooby and never will be. Giles isn't Scooby either, he's a Watcher. We've learned a lot about Spike's past, but what is his role in the present besides being a mate for Buffy? Who else supports him besides Buffy? Where is his only friend, Clem? They're all just functions. But to be fair, the Scoobys themselves are also functions of Buffy. Willow is her spirit, Giles is her brain, and Xander is her heart. There were no other components to the spell.

I never hated her, and she never even pissed me off. I mean, she's just not that interesting. The only good thing about her besides being the main prize of season five is when someone strokes her hair.

The best Big Bad is Spike. I mean, how many other bad guys has Slayer made work for him and neglect their duties for his own salvation?

Throughout the 4 seasons, Gunn went from being a leader & protector who couldn't save his sister and stake her when he doesn't have a choice to just being the muscle of Angel Investigations. That is until the 5th and final season where, not wanting to be defined as only the muscle, he becomes this uber lawyer of Wolfram & Hart. Only to see what the consequences were when he made that decision head on. Luckily, he went back to his old self in the final 2 episodes of the show. Yeah, despite how underutilized this character was, it's great to see some evolution.

I dont like a lot of xanders behavior, but i also dont like how giles treated him, either. Two aspects of the show that are never properly addressed or resolved in a satisfying manner

Angelus is The best Villain! No other Villain ever felt as treating ( despite them all being much more powerful) and evil as Angelus. His insults and attacks always where personal heartbreaking and disturbingly humorous at the same time! The series was at its peak during season 2

The Star Crossed Lover’s Trope never gets old! Perhaps that’s why all of Buffy’s other Relationships never felt as epic as her relationship with Angel.

When I first watched Buffy, I disliked Xander. Because he was a week useless idiot. Most of the guys in the show seemed to be either helpless or clueless. I dismissed the show as "girl power" shit. Years later when I rewatched it, I enjoyed it a lot more. The character writing is actually brilliant and a lot of the interactions quite realistic, despite the crazy stuff going on. Xander is a dick. Just like a lot of teenage boys. Chances are high that we all knew a guy like him, or we were like him. So in the end, Id say good writing and good acting make Xander exactly what he was intended to be.

I think when analyzing Tara, it's unfair to compare her with the main characters who existed in season 1 (Buffy, Willow, Xander, Giles). Tara is more comparable to Anya, Oz, and Riley. And when you comapre Tara with them, she doesn't come off too badly at all. Anya and Tara suffer the same flaw. They're good characters but they are veiwed as satellites to their love interests. That's a shame cuz they could have been so much more than this. But Anya has more seasons to shine than Tara did. Oz and Tara are both reflections of Willow at different stages of Willow's life. Riley is given more to do because he's paired with Buffy, the main hero. But despite this, Riley is disliked by many fans. Riley is less popular than Tara, Anya, and Oz and he's considered the worst love interest for Buffy. Thus giving Riley more to do didn't help him at all. His flaws aren't a lack of screen time focus, but a lack of self reflection on his own issues while he blames Buffy instead. Tara and Anya deserved better, especially Tara. They existed mainly for Willow and Xander benefit instead of their own value as a character in their own right. They certainly suffer compared to Spike and Angel.

Willows jealously of Buffy, lowkey fueled her thirst for power. Had Buffy/Giles trained Willow to actually fight and build up self-confidence instead her relying on magic, she probably would have handled Tara's death differently.

People need to understand that sometimes a character is just flawed. Xander is a jealous guy. He gets over it. But literally EVERYONE is jelous and unreasonable in a relationship in Buffy. Angel slept with an underage Buffy. Willow literally violated her girlfriend’s consent. Is Xander’s behavior really the reason they don’t like the character? Or is the reason why Xander’s behavior is called out while others arent because they don’t like the character?

Tbh, I think comparing Tara with Season 1 Willow is a wild misread of both characters. Willow is an ambitious intellectual. She's always been ahead of her peers, so has a sense of hubris and thinking she's invulnerable (even in season 1). She latches onto magic because she's desperate to challenge herself and because the power soothes her insecurities. She's also fierce in her attachments to other people, even if it means overlooking major conflicts. Tara is all about balance & moderation. She's not interested in power or proving herself. Unlike Willow, she's Wiccan and magic is simply a part of her spiritual practice. Tara is people-oriented and a peacemaker, but detached enough to walk away from relationships that aren't healthy. She comes across as more mature than any of the Scoobies.

Thanks for articulating something that has bothered me! Why is Xander uniquely despised in a series where trainwreck men are a dime a dozen? I think it's a few things: 1. Nick Brandon doesn't look like a teenager. 2. Fans struggle to distinguish between Xander & Whedon. 3. Xander's faults aren't framed as sexy or edgy. It's almost like we've come full circle and the character's awkwardness & insecurity are a part of why he is so disliked.

You know, despite all my Buffy rewatches, I never noticed the perhaps unintended foreshadowing in the episode where Buffy says the line about being a single mother.

I'd never noticed the lack of vampire reflection either. But now it's got me wondering about the woman in the dress behind them, who also lacks a reflection.
