Dead Rising 1 is the hardest game in the series by far. It's expected to screw up and fail side-missions on your first playthrough. While it is possible to save everyone and achieve the best ending starting from a new game at lvl 1, it's impossible to do that blind, so try and relax and just do the best you can. If you get stuck somewhere there's no shame in starting a NG+ or even just riding out the rest of the game until you reach one of the endings and then starting again. You should also check out your skill list in the pause menu and experiment with them because they can be very useful in certain situations if you know their button combinations. Another thing to note is if you do finish DR1 and want to continue with the series, the Off The Record version of DR2 has checkpoints and other quality of life improvements which make the game much less punishing if you choose to use them, so I'd make sure to play that version of DR2 if you can work up the gumption to finish this one.

And take my advice, simply start from the beginning with your current level 20. You'll have knowledge beforehand and more of a chance to do the cases. Up to you.

Also some quick pointers! *With the cliff fight, if he keeps running away, leave the area and instantly come back. He’ll always meet you at the loading screen. You can respawn him on the floor everytime *if you like range weapons, go to the gun store in the north plaza. The shotguns are pretty good, especially if you give them to survivors. The snipers are kinda eh And the main missions are based on time. If the name of the mission is gray, that means it has a spefic start time. If you look at your watch it’ll tell you “Scoop chance at ___am/pm”. So you don’t have to do all the side quests to advance the main story, but you can gauge how much free time you have to complete the side missions. Much love bro!

Here's a good tip, Adam's chainsaw is one of the best weapons. Get that and find magazines that make it more durable. Also this is the type of game that encourages you to restart and keep your current level so do that and resume where you last stopped.
