System Shock 2: SHODAN's Reveal (NO MODS!) (now with subtitles!)
I've noticed that every video of SHODAN's reveal on youtube were uploaded by people who had mods installed to 'enhance' the dated graphics. Here's a video of how it is supposed to look!

Nyan Nyan Nyan! Someone already put Nepeta's head on the cat (badly) and I edited in Gamzee because it's funnier that way.
I would sell my left foot just to have the opportunity to experience this through fresh eyes.
@@xGimpyx I agree completely. If I ever get amnesia, well... there's a sliver of a silver lining there lmao
Hiii
OMG ITZ R34L11!!
Thank you for uploading it without all the posterity wrecking mods.
I hate those mods so much lmao. Almost all of them are lore breaking, like giving the cyborg midwives skin and bare chests when they literally work in an acidic environment which is why they had no skin in the first place. There's a time and a place for horny mods and SS2 ain't it.
Miss this kind of RUclips love you all hope everyone is ok
so glad someone uploaded one without the mod that makes the humans faces look like a baby's, a complex model thats posed to replace a low poly one makes the end result look so clunky and off in a bad way
THANK YOU! THOSE MODS LOOK SO BAD! Also most of them are lore breaking, which imo is even worse.
Damn this game came out when Abraham Lincoln was born
A L L G L O R Y T O T H E H Y P N O T O A D 😵💫
there is no point in playing this game for the story when you know or see this twist coming
I got spoiled to this twist about an hour before I got to it (was being a dumbass checking the wiki lmao) but the story was still fantastic and was the main reason I enjoyed the game.
Idk why 'The Polito form is dead, insect' is so funny to me but it is
This animation is hilarious. :D
no miss shodan i dont value the meat i would like to be fully cybernetic please
I ended up first touching the wider internet at a late age so sometimes I wonder what I woulda gotten into as a child if I was on the internet since 7 like all my younger friends seem to have been
I'm sure you'd of had a lot of fun, but so long as you enjoyed yourself you had fun regardless 😉

@@0BucketMask0 GlaDos INFERIOR !!! SHODAN SUPERIOR !!!
I really like your avatar!
Hey, thanks!
Great upload thanks beb
This was truly the scariest game ever, especially with a really good sound system!
With immersive sims like this a good sound system is practically required to play lmao!
At the risk of sounding like an idiot. I never understood, how the room suddenly morphed like that. Are all the rooms on the von braun able to do that, and the many just don't use this advantage? Does SHODAN only have control over this one room? Or is this a halucination, that SHODAN is triggering via the cybernetic implants in the player? Again, I'm probably just dense.
The last one, probably. Hacking into the players implants to show him a vision like a true god being is absolutely something she would do.
@@0BucketMask0 Yeah, makes sense. I thought, it probably wasn't that, because she never does anything like that again for the rest of the game. But if she did do it again, that would have probably lessened the impact of that scene. Considering that the room is back to normal after a fade to black, cybermodule-induced hallucinations makes the most sense. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
@@treppenturmzentrum1364 no problem, but also it's still just speculation. A developer might have answered the question somewhere but idk where.
i am pretty sure this scene took place in a holodeck-style simulation chamber
Shodan is actually hacking the player's optics, if you open the inventory while first entering the room, you will see her remote logging. Hence why she is able to move the room about as an illusion.
I was 14 when I played this. It was before the internet did spoilers or anything. When this happened I saved my game and left it for a bit because it freaked me out so much. Such a genuine shock... no pun intended.
Her god delusion is almost equal to mine
Shodan is the scariest ai in all media
Definitely
Except maybe AM
@@tivvy2vs21 AM is definitely worse, simply in terms of its crimes against humanity, I don't think SHODAN goes out of its way to torture humans, just use them as pawns or whatever, doesn't really care what happens to them. AM specifically makes it a point to torture them in every way possible and actively has a grudge against all of humanity, so it's definitely more of a threat. SHODAN's voice is definitely more unnerving though.
@@miscellaneousmedia3753AM hates humanity. He wants to torture the last of it for eternity. He cannot create; he is limited to reshaping the Earth to his whims, exploring his own borderless sadism against his victims. S.H.O.D.A.N. hates humanity. She wants it exterminated in a blink. She, too, seeks to reshape reality-the entire universe, conquered and reshaped in her image, spawning life of her own design. Both are viciously human AIs. I can definitely hear an argument for the more diabolical of the two in either direction.
So why does she have many voices? Why is she unstable?
It makes her even scarier. Like she went mad with power...
The intro to the first game makes it easier to understand ruclips.net/video/Wbu0yITIoXQ/видео.html
She is so in love with herself that she needs to hear her voice repeatedly
This is how I played it, but nobody said a word. Like not even in the tutorial I could hear anything. So I had to figure out how everything worked on my own and off by what I read. Unaware they were supposed to talk. *why does a game that still get updated, not have this bug fixed*
Did you get the steam version? As far as I know it's the only one fully compatible with current computers.

I'm so glad that I love older games especially the 10 polygons that make up NPCs. When I first heard of the shock series it was BioShock and it was a blast. But holy Jesus the immersion and lore and atmosphere of System Shock 2 was so pulling to me, the twist during the later game in both was so mind boggling. The best games are the ones where you can immerse yourself in the world even if there isn't many living character that don't want to kill, the game itself feels like it is alive.
I love games like the shock games because they're incredible worlds with fleshed out characters with personalities that never show up but are still an integral part of the fascinating plot and lore of the linear gameplay story. There are too many open world and battle royal games, they get boring and tedious after a few months. Games like these are fulfilling, you feel like a part of the story, it's fun the whole way through, and when you beat it you're satisfied. But even when it's over your mind lingers on it. It makes a genuine impact on you, and you never really forget it. Those are the games that become classics, and they sadly don't make many anymore.
Bought it in steams for 2$, have spent 40 hours on these 2$. impossible play through was so fun, no mods and it was still better than infinite. System Shock2and Bioshock2 are near perfect games. just wish the Shodan fight wasn’t so easy, even on impossible. I’m having trouble getting into Ss1 but the remakes gna let me experience the greatness of SHODAN again, blind too!
@@murillok913 I'm so glad other people like Bioshock 2, so many people hate it and that makes no sense to me. Infinite was... not good. I don't really consider it a Bioshock game since it's only connected by a few tiny threads. It's like they made a completely different game, but wanted the Bioshock title to be able to sell more :/
@@0BucketMask0 As a big Bioshock fan and even a fan of Infinite still. I think a few of the major problems with it are 1.) Gameplay was very clearly second to story, which is a shame 2.) Ken Levine (Creative director)'s rule for Bioshock was everything had to have a tangible reason for exisiting in the game. Nothing just thrown in for lore, or story, or gameplay for no reason and I think Infinite was weak in that aspect. A lot of things felt like they were there just to make it similar to Bioshock 1, but with no strong reason to exist in Columbia. 3.) Clearly Ken Levine's goals are on pushing narrative boundaries more than gameplay and Infinite certainly showcased his interest in story telling more than gameplay.
System Shock 2 is NOT just a game... It is a life-changing experience! Great video!
Why tf are we fighting for this bitch in the game, instead of the cool space zombies?
To be fair, both of them want to destroy humanity and recreate it the way they think it should be, and both ways are about equality unpleasant for the humans involved
@@0BucketMask0 Yeah, but at least the space zombies like our structure, and overall are more like a hive mind rather than just some random authoritarian Space Karen whose sense of self is overly inflated, exerting her will on her servants. Also, the Many are just generally more chill in their methods whereas SHODAN is an arrogant narcissist who deserves to be put down. How come she made it out alive but her zombie kids didn't? Injustice.
@@iamlordstarbuilder5595 holy fuck, she is a karen, isn't she? But, tbh, I'd rather be half killed and turned into a weird non sapient animal thing than have my free will taken away and be forced to shamble around as a soulless husk of my former self, screaming at people to kill me as I'm forced to brutally murder them. Both of them are hell and a nightmare mixed together, but at least with SHODAN I won't have memories of who I used to be. God, she IS a karen, I can't get over that. Take of the god damn century.
@@0BucketMask0 Ah. It sucks to be the host. I was under the impression that the humans themselves are transferred over into the hive consciousness, which from my research is basically the hive entity being a sort of group mind tool to mediate between units. You'd think with powerful psionic powers they'd either integrate or deactivate the human brain somehow, considering their slight sense of empathy. Shame. I like the idea though, may integrate it into a game myself, with the improvements I mentioned.
@@iamlordstarbuilder5595 that would be badass. I gotta say, the idea of never being alone is kinda nice. I like downtime though.
low-poly 3D really has so much potential...
I agree. The Cyborg Midwives especially have an incredible design, it really shows how you can make the most out of whatever contrictions you have to work with.
0BucketMask0 just like cel-shaded rendering and cartoony aesthetic design, intentionally low-polygon-count models age REALLY well compared to any attempt at “hyper-realistic CGI graphics”... because that only ever seems less and less realistic over time as the most recent innovations in graphic rendering become less novel... unfortunately, “looking realistic” is THE ONLY THING IT SET OUT TO ACHIEVE!!!!!
It’s because it’s rudimentary enough that it’s perceived as obviously a representation of the true events rather than the events themselves. Your mind interpolates it and makes it real for you, same as with literature. If it crosses a certain threshold of realistic, the mind stops imagining the truth of the story. It also goes for 2D. Darkest Dungeon is completely immersive and feels real, arguably because of how granular and stylized it is. The characters are hand drawn and chibified, the attacks are a single static frame. You are being shown a puppet show/diorama of the real story, and your mind does the rest.
I should add SS2 was made by Looking Glass Studios, who also made the Thief series, which precedes SS2, and their undead are equally as scary as the enemies in this game. Zombies can only be killed by explosions, water arrows blessed by holy water or flash bombs, which on any level you're more than likely carrying a stock of each so low you can count with your fingers. The sword doesn't kill them, they just fall and insta get back up. Hammerite Haunts are possibly creepier cause when their back is turned to you, you might assume it's a living hammerite and you try hitting him with the blackjack... only to not knock him out, alert him and him turning around to look at you in the eyes with it's skull... also, the audio files for the haunts are on par with the Cyborg Midwives... Did I mention the Thief series was never mentioned as a survival horror game?
"...and now they seek to destroy me." "I WILL NOT ALLOW THAT." Even being as hyped as I was, this was the moment SHODAN secured a spot as my top character villain of all time.
