Did you notice? When Don Vito speaks, there is no fruit on the table in front of him. However, when the camera pans to Barsini and Tattaglia, oranges and grapes can be seen. This is a motif from visual art, where fruit in paintings symbolizes death and decay. This foreshadows the death of Don Corleone's opponents, while he survives at this point. However, when Vito is shot and later dies, oranges are a part of those scenes.
