Ageing TOO Well? | 16” M1 Max MacBook 2 Years Later | Long-Term Review
My M1 Max MacBook Pro 16” review & recap after 2 years, did it age too well?
Now that I’ve used the M1 Max MacBook Pro nearly every day for over 2 years, I do have some thoughts to share, how it's aged and how it compares to the current generation MacBook Pros and whether you should still get one more than 2 years after its initial release.

    I bought the M2 Pro 16 inch and usually when I make big purchases I get extreme buyers remorse but this time around I have never been this happy after spending so much money on something lol. Apple killed it with the Silicon MacBooks period.

    I gotta be honest. I am a gamer at heart and I made the switch because, I wanted to just use my laptop as something other than a gaming device away from my desk. My gaming laptop was amazing and had all the power to play any game I wanted. I am getting older and realzied that I needed a chancge. The Macbook Pro M1 Max with 32gb of ram was my choice. I have now gotten into editing my gaming clips on my free time and even posted a few on social mdeia as my hobby. I love my 14' macbook rpo and I will be using this for years to come. What I had to do was get a KVM switch, WHICH DOESN'T EVEN DO PIP/PBP, but a button to switch between 2 devices and share resources.

    Hi, I also want to buy 16 inch m1 pro, but not sure which one to pick.. The m1 pro or m1 max, I don't do extreme tasks and stuff But I still Want A powerful machine because I think It will last a long time so My question is .. How many hours do you get by using the m1 max by normal web browsing and having a lot of tabs open? and do you think m1 pro will have longer battery life? and if I have the more powerful m1 max will It last longer? and is the battery life better or worse because its powerful? thank you

    • @alexgreyy
      @alexgreyy Месяц назад

      I unfortunately have not used the "normal" M1 Pro chip, so I can't speak from personal experience. I have watched a lot of reviews over the years, though, so that is what I'm basing my answer on. If the only thing you really do is "web browsing" either of these chips are an utter waste of money. If you do the occasional edit (photo or video) and you'd want for it to be responsive, should you ever want to, I'd completely get that. Nonetheless, a MB Air model (no matter which one) might actually serve you best (unless you're a sucker for the 120hz displays, which, again, I'd completely understand). If you don't require your MB to do powerful tasks at all, but you still want a MB Pro, get the Pro chip. The Max would be a complete waste of money, even to this day. The battery life is bonkers. I can't give you exact numbers, because, as I said, this is my work horse and I never go a day without doing at least some work on it, which might impact the number you're looking for. It'd easily be a full day doing only mundane tasks, though.

    • @abdullahmohammed8549
      @abdullahmohammed8549 Месяц назад

      @@alexgreyy I understand but Im not sure if the Macbook Air will last that much with me, since I am going to use it very very roughly as day passes and by web browsing I meant having like at least 20-25 tabs open and each of them maybe using like 200 Mb-1 Gb memory usage and also downloading hundreds of files, plus I don't want to change my laptop every year so that is why I was thinking if I the pro version is better, I also considered the Macbook pro 16 because its display is bigger and more thinner and 120 hz is not so important but it's a nice to have, so is the MB air still more suitable for me and can withstand the work I will put and have a long life?

    • @alexgreyy
      @alexgreyy Месяц назад

      That’s not a silly question at all! I predominantly use my phone as my camera when sitting at my desk, which I also used to film this video. I clamp it onto the key light with a magic arm to get a nice angle. My iPhone 15 Pro has that good a camera that I sold my old mirrorless for it, as it didn’t get used very much ever since the iPhone 14 Pro came out, because of sheer convenience. I might get a better one in the future though, as I sometimes miss that authentic feeling, when shooting photo or video. For social media or general use where footage gets heavily compressed anyway it absolutely wouldn’t be necessary though. And on a side note, whenever I want to get a video shot of anything, I just prop it up on my desk and always have a soft diffused light that I can easily adjust the parameters of always ready to go, without having to move anything. :)

    I have the same configuration. It’s a joy working in illustrator, photoshop and even after effects. One problem that keeps occurring though is when I attach a projector of an external display (not the apple ones) directly in the hdmi port. If I play fullscreen video the m1 crashes after 10 to 15 minutes. Seems a pretty common problem. Apple can’t seem to care to fix it. This means that I do my video for professional presentations with my iPhone! Pretty sad for such an expensive machine..

    If your are buying a max chip, I would to think you bought it with the intention of it being relevent after 2 years. Most people will be keeping their machine between 4 years minimum. I would go for the latest model unless someone is giving a deep discount on a used one.

    • @alexgreyy
      @alexgreyy 2 месяца назад

      I'm afraid I really don't agree. I know many people (many of them professionals) who upgrade(d) every 2 years or so because it used to make sense from a performance perspective and because their clients became more and more demanding (4K videos and files becoming much more widely accepted as the consumer standard compared to a few years ago for instance being one of the most notable reasons for that). Since the M1s however, the consumer tech landscape changed quite a bit and even though 8K cameras exist, they are not the standard and are hardly worth it for the average consumer or hobby creator. That being said, many clients nowadays want their footage in 8K because it gives them options. You won't find many who want more than that, though, which make the M1 chips still a viable option today when it comes to this use case (which ties a bit more into my area of expertise). 4 years from now, my M1 Max MacBook will still be handling the same tasks I throw at it now just as well, as long as I don't push it any further, which, I at least, don't need. My work doesn't even push the M1 Max to its limits 95% of the time, as I am fine with sticking to 4K editing for the most part and will be for the foreseeable future. And I firmly believe that that is the case for a very large amount of people. Especially if you consider the steep price difference between the M1 Max MB Pro and the latest M3 Max MB Pro, I really think it is a very compelling option going for the former, be that as a refurbished model or even on the second hand market!

      Windows and Mac aren’t connected to each other if that helps. They are just wired separately to the same monitor but to different ports. MacBook goes to the DP-port via a USB-C to DP cable. PS & PC both via HDMI cables to the respective HDMI 2.1 ports on the monitor. If I want to switch to any device, I just have to switch to that respective input on the monitor. Technically I could've also made use of the KVM switch for my peripherals but since they connect via Bluetooth they switch to whatever device I'm using at the moment flawlessly anyway. Well I'm not the biggest fan of the G7's design, nor was I looking for a monitor whose sole purpose would be to be gamed on. I wanted solid colours (so the G7's reviews were a no-go for me), a high enough refresh rate but since I'm not really an FPS type of game gamer everything over 144hz is basically useless to me, a nice design that doesn't scream "gamery" at first sight and preferably not spend a fortune on it. It's been great for me so far, no backlight bleeding and the colours are surprisingly rich. Not OLED level of course, but nice enough for an IPS display.
