    I have been out to the Ice trail. When you go more to the east and the damn creek cuts the trail off then have to find where the trail picks up then you run across a fence that you don't know whether or not that it where the trail continues beaceue it disappers. That was the only part of the Maah Daah Hey I tried and no more. Biking to me isn't having to get off your bike to find the trail because it got lost it the overgrow and cow shit. Once and done. Trails back home were much better.

    The reason the Nez Pierce crossed the rugged mountans instead of a lower easier rout along the salmon river is because the Blackfoot were set up along the Salmon . Very violent tribe. There is alot of cool indian hostory that shows in the mountains. You see alot of the tree notches in the trees the Nez Pierce used to mark their trails as well as directio.. You gota look up a ways now to see them but they can be easily seen.

    You can actually ride from Ft Bayard to Pinos Altos. Or you can split off towards Bear Canyon and come back in behind the Forest Service base camp. You were riding in an actual game reserve area behind Ft Bayard, so not surprised you'd see a lot of wildlife. In the fall you will see and hear elk bugling in that area, a lot.

    Question about your vehicle: hey Mr. Darren. Enjoying your video and doing a bit of planning myself. Right now, one of my biggest challenges is figuring out how shuttle. Thinking about ridding north to south (your thoughts on this choice is appreciated). But, aside from using the shuttle out of Medora, how does one get back to the vehicle? I see you had yours and would like to know how you’d arranged or planned for that. I appreciate you posting your trip/adventure.

    • @darren_springer
      @darren_springer 5 месяцев назад

      Howdy! I self shuttled. I rode each segment as an out and back. Effectively riding the trail in both directions. Watch both part 1 and 2 to see the campgrounds I stayed at and ow I did it. Just do it. One of my favorite adventures to date.

    • @gravelgrindingboys
      @gravelgrindingboys 5 месяцев назад

      @@darren_springer - That’s what I was guessing. You rode it the one time but BOTH WAYS at the same time and a segment at a time. Sir, I have one thing to say: You da man! - This is a consideration. Someone pointed out to me that a shuttle to the north from Medora is really the only one I’d need to consider; the route back to Medora from the south is less than 30 miles on the roads. Off to watch Part 2.

      Hi Keith, I'm glad you have enjoyed some of my videos. I have lived in Tahoe for over 30 years and have pretty much beat up everything west of the Rockies. This journey was for many reasons, but I wanted to see how the mountain biking and camping was in the rest of the country. At the time, Canada was off limits. I found that the lack of public land was a hinderence to both, but what was available to the locals was precious. Purpose built singletrack was carefully maintained and well loved. I almost feel guilty for having such huge resources outside my door! Tahoe is still my number one riding area, it has endless singletrack and it's home. Bentonville, AR. Just go. Amazing what they are doing there. Maah Daah Hey Trail, N.D. you have to be going there to get there. Out there adventure riding. Montana. Beautiful. Razor thin singletrack. Grizzlies around every corner...not really, but it was on my mind. Of course, Moab and Hurricane UT. The Arizona Trail and Rainbow Rim (N. Rim G.C.) Happy Riding!
