    I'm looking for a review of their classic set. I'm looking for a good classic set of paints. Without any brightener added. I was good paints, highly pigmented true colors. Not all that "so bright they are blindingly unnatural" colors. I'm curious if these paints will hit the mark since they are so extremely expensive. They are even more expensive than daniel smith. Which is a shock. That's for sure.

    The art tool kit palette and the peg one - can you use gouache in it? Have You?

    • @ampersandpaintspalettes9431
      @ampersandpaintspalettes9431 3 года назад

      Hi Angela! Great question! I use watercolor more than I use gouache, but I've tended to have more success with gouache using it straight out of the tube rather than dried and rewet. So it depends how you use gouache. If you typically squeeze it into pans or a palette and then use them rewet, these would work fine. But they're not airtight, so they won't keep your paints wet. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

I highlighted them on my Instagram account but haven’t done a video here yet. Will have to do that soon! I love the plastic-free idea of the palette by itself, but I just wasn’t confident enough about color selection to ever fill it. The bioplastic custom pans are perfect until I figure it out. • @ampersandpaintspalettes9431
      @ampersandpaintspalettes9431 3 года назад

      Great question! I wish I had enough pencils to give you more information about how many you could put in it and have it close comfortably, but I’ll give you my best guess! You can fit about two dozen pencils comfortably in each of the outside pockets. Inside I’d guess you could comfortably fit about fifty. So you could pack in about a hundred pencils according to those estimations. The only thing I’d say is that the outside pockets may be less secure, so it depends on how you carry and use it whether that would work for you. If it was me I’d probably put a little sketchbook in one of the outside pockets (the Peg & Awl ones fit perfectly) and then use the inside pockets for pencils (and then sharpeners/erasers could go in the zippered pouch). If your sketchbook doesn’t fit in the pocket, you can bundle one on with the leather strap (that’s what I do when I’m using a larger hardcover book). Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Do you think a standard metal 24 half pan palette would fit into this? They are maybe 3”x8”

    • @ampersandpaintspalettes9431
      @ampersandpaintspalettes9431 4 года назад

      Hi Geslina! I tried this out for you, and it can work. The best place for a palette this size is one of the exterior large pockets (front or back). The palette sticks out about 1.5-1.75 inches. It can fit into the interior large pocket, but then the flap doesn't fold down all the way. It can still work, but it's a bit awkward. The smaller metal palettes are a better fit for the inside (the 12-18 half pan ones), but the larger ones can work! Thanks for watching! Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

      @@ampersandpaintspalettes9431 thanks so much! I think I’d rather get the smaller size palette, as you say. It would bug me if it was sticking out. These rolls are a little pricey, but they look sturdy and well made, and I love that you can fit so much into them, including a smaller size watercolor journal in the outside pockets. I wouldn’t have to carry anything extra, except maybe a bottle of water. Again, thanks for checking the palette fit for me. I appreciate it,

    Hey this is a great review of what you've got in your Sendak. I was wondering if you could give an opinion of the palettes. If you could only have one, the Charlie or the P&A, which would you pick and why?

    • @ampersandpaintspalettes9431
      @ampersandpaintspalettes9431 4 года назад

      They are both lovely. I think it depends on your own preferences. The wells in the Peg & Awl palette are larger, so you may prefer that one if you use larger brushes (maybe larger than a 6?) and don't mix colors very often (or don't mind using a separate mixing surface). Being larger, the wells hold more paint than the Charlie, so that may also be a factor for you. The big plus of the Charlie is that it has mixing surfaces in the palette. So I would say either one depending on brush size, mixing preferences, and how many/what size wells you want. I'd love to hear what you decide!

    • @jmhlongtin
      @jmhlongtin 4 года назад

      @@ampersandpaintspalettes9431 After much thinking, I've decided to get the P&A one with my most favorite quote engraved on it. As much as I adore the looks of the Charlie palette (and I still may get one someday), the ultimate deciding factor was to support a US-based maker and since I'm buying a Sendak for my birthday, I thought I'd indulge in the palette that fits it perfectly.

    I realize that this might be an unpopular opinion, but as far as I can see, these paints are mostly packaging. Even when you waited a bit, the colors were not particularly appealing, Given the trouble to wait after they are rewetted, they don't seem to be paints that I would want to rely upon. I do paint mostly with subdued colors and earth tones, but I don't think the lack of intensity is useful since I can always mute down the color I have. Also, if these require heavy-duty scrubbing to get any decent amount of color out of them, it's too hard on the brushes and will end up using quite a bit of paint. This is no bargain given the price point of these paints. The packaging is fun, but the packaging isn't really the point. Also, if they come in these little, round, stone shapes, it seems that they won't fit into a metal or plastic travel palette. I liked your video though.

    • @ampersandpaintspalettes9431
      @ampersandpaintspalettes9431 4 года назад

      Hi Lisa, I hate that the video didn’t present the paints as appealing to you. Compared with professional artist paints, the paints are just as vibrant (going off about the dozen colors I have). Of course it depends on the nature of each color and pigment. Anong offers many vibrant primaries that are great for mixing. My most recent Team Beam package included a dot card with some very vibrant/primary blues (she really spoils Team Beam with extra goodies!). Most of my paints, handmade or otherwise, require a moment to activate to their fullest vibrancy. These paints do not seem to take more time than others I’ve used. They don’t require scrubbing either, just a brief moment to rewet. The non-plastic packaging is part of the appeal to me, but of course that’s also a matter of preference. I’ve only used the paints in a studio setting, but your comment prompted me to check to see if the wrapped paints would fit into a typical metal watercolor case. They fit snuggly and perfectly! I didn’t even think to try that before, but now I’m excited to have an option if I want to take them out for plein air painting. In terms of price, they are more expensive than commercially produced paints, but are very competitive/comparable to the price of other handmade paints. For me personally, the way Anong creates her paints is worth the extra cost. Thanks for watching the video!

    • @KitKatToeBeans
      @KitKatToeBeans 4 года назад

      Not all the paints are round. You can clearly see two of them are square shaped. And without the wrapping around them they CAN fit in a palette box uses pans. I’m guessing you didn’t bother visiting the site in order to better understand the story behind the paints creation and creator....it’s also about supporting a small business run by a woman, instead of paint made in a factory. But maybe that’s not your thing.
